Diabetic huh? That is what I am doing though I am not diabetic. My doctor in the States told me it was the best diet for losing weight. So me and my HUGE sweet tooth (and Cadbury is my all time favourite and Galaxy is wonderful, too) have to give them up. Well, not completely but within moderation. So, I'll look for the diabetic foods. Do they have a certain label or brand I can watch out for?

Hi,I am a type one diabetic since I was a very young child= over 30 years now. A lot of diabetics(including myself) do not eat diabetic food even the ones that count carbs. I am supposed to but not quite strict enough - we need to count carbs to calculate our insulin. The reason for us not doing so is that diabetic food (and there is no real'diabetic food') usually makes up for the loss of taste by incorporating a lot more fat than the equivalant food witha higher sugar content.

It is useful to count carbs and most lables will have the carb content of food on it.Soyou can keep itbelow say 60 g a day. I do not eat cereal at all because all it is is carb really. Tesco makes a lower carb bread with linseed and soya called Burgen. The best way to deal with carbs is to buy a carb counting book or a scale (I got mine at amazon). You weigh food and it gives you calories, carbs , fat etc.. Also foodfocus is an online calorie tracker that has a lot of UK food.

Good luck.

Casandra, you are absolutely right, a lot of things are just too expensive. I hardly eat out because for one thing of fajitas, it was 8.50 pounds. That's 13 bucks for fajitas!!!!!! If I were earning in pounds that is one thing, but translating it from american dollars is quite another. So cooking it is, and I don't mind. =)

Natgar, thank you for the advice. I'm not really watching carbs so much...just watching for healthy ones. Mainly sugar and portions but I will look up that foodfocus online thing. Thanks again and I need that good luck!

This is why us brits go mad for eating out whilst we are in the US, it's so cheap compared to our meals out!

Last time I was in Orlando we went to Panda Express practically every night and had a huge bag of food for about $20, this was for 4 of us. We still can't belive how cheap it was, and how good it tastes. God I miss Panda Express

Starbuck, I miss Panda Express too! LOL. I miss Pollo Tropical too. But I have found things that are absolutely gorgeous here: Tesco's stirfry, Bounty Bars (OMG), the milk, the AMAZING Indian food here, fish&chips, Cadbury Trifle Pots (OMG),etc. All amazing. In fact, I could go for one of each right now, Panda Express included. Also, I miss fried plantains. Mmmm. LOL.
