I am a California girl gone Lancashire lass! LOL! Don't laugh at me! I moved here over a year ago. It's still funny when I answer the door and and the poor person cannot understand a word I say! My hubby is born and raised here. The joke around here is that "English is my second language" Bahaha!!
My goal is to one day...open my mouth and not have someone say- "Hmm, you're not from here..are you?"
Anyways-I am glad to be here..I am a new chick round here!!
Cheers,
T

You're so lucky. I want to live in the UK so badly. I'd start with London and work my way around the country
"English is your second language" LOL. That is so funny. I wonder if people from the UK could understand my Canadian accent.

I've got a similar story, but have lived in Oxford for a number of years. My accent remains worthy of comment, it seems. I've taken to saying that "I speak English almost like a native"!

We were in Rome recently and we go chatting with a family who were from London. I could detect an accent in the man's voice so I asked him where he was from originally. He looked really surprised that I could tell as he had lived in London for 35 years (he only looked about mid 40s). He was originally from Uganda, but he really thought he had no accent other than a London one.

I'm a Welsh lass too! Well, it's a bit more complex than that - I grew up overseas, but my family's from the Gower, (ah, the beauty!). I've spent the last 12 years in exile in London (currently SE - Catford, to be precise).
My husband's from Essex though, so it's all a bit Gavin and Stacey!

I'm a newbie too from Woy Woy, NSW, Oz, been here since 99 (except for 3 years in the Bay Area, Northen California) Apparently, I still have an accent, although I've never had an accent - it's everyoneelse that has the accent!
