Monsoon can be pretty inconsistent in their sizing in general, I find, but yes, I run about a 16 there, and an 18 pretty much everywhere else. Oh, except for Dorothy Perkins. They really seem to run big, particularly in jeans.

I'm 5'6 & I wear size 24 top and bottom at the moment. Normally when I'm lighter I tend to be a size smaller on the bottom, & that's usually where I start to lose it first.
I suppose it might make sense that Dorothy Perkins clothes are slightly larger, as they're the same group as Evans which always come up big. My friend and I had an aim to be able to wear jeans from the Gap last time I lost a large amount - only to find that when I was in an 18 anywhere else I was nowhere near there!

Ugh, it's like getting TopShop jeans. I remember back when I was a 14, could I even get jeans to even get up my thighs? Noooo....

Yeah, I haven't shopped in Monsoon in a while, as I used to buy stuff there all the time when i was bigger, so it kind of reminds me too much.
But I used to buy size 22 there when I was probably more size 26, and they fitted, so yes i suspect they are a little generous.
Do you guys think French connection sizes are a wee bit smaller than most??

I have a pair of French Connection jeans in a 14 which fit me fine without any gapping at the waist. If this is average for French Connection sizing then I would say that their 14s may be a little smaller on the waist but the same on the hips as the average size 14. I've just checked their size guide on line and no wonder the jeans fit so well my measurements are exactly their size 14: 37.5", 31", 41". I'll have to shop there more often.

i'm 5ft 7 and i'm between a 20 and 18. 20s too big but 18s are too small. i find dorothy perkins wonderful for sizing and their clothes are good quality. i hate evans. everything i try on makes me look like i have no shape, or am 7 months pregnant. next fit me perfectly on top, but like another poster mentioned, they are too tight on the hips in trousers.

I'm 5' 6" and heading for a size 16 but still (just) was fitting into my size 14s, when I realised last week enough was enough. I find I can rarely find jeans that fit me cos whatever size I am, (even a small 12) my thighs are too massive, and I always have a 10" differential between waist and hips - so if it goes over my bum, it gapes at the waist.
I find Monsoon and Tescos seem to be vanity sized.
I had lost all the weight the first year I came here - I went from a 22 to a size 12, in about a year but just as I hit size 12 my dad died, and voila! Comfort eating. Despite having regained nearly all the weight (maybe 2 st out of the 3 st I had lost), I only went up one dress size. Go figure!

I'm just starting out... 5'4", about 325lb and a size 26 on the bottom, and a 22/24 on top.

Its very depressing, the shops with the nicest clothes seem to have the smallest fitting sizes! im usually a big UK12/small UK14 and I'm 5'10", but if i go into topshop or miss selfridge or (god forbid!) american apparel i can hardly squeeze into the 14s! Ive heard a conspiracy theory that shops do this on purpose, but i don't see how they could benefit from it because since Topshop makes me feel bad about myself, I don't shop there anymore! Penneys (Primark) all the way baby!

I'm 5'7", 11st 11lb and a UK size 12 top and 14 bottoms. I am hourglass shaped and have a small waist and massive hips and it can be very difficult getting jeans that fit nicely on the hips and thighs but that don't have a huge gap on the waist!! I am sure I could try on 50 pairs and be lucky to get one decent one!

I'm 5ft5, currently 267lbs. I'm 20/22 on top and 26 at the bottom. Generally have to say Evans items come up big on me. If only I could zone my diet to lose more on my hips lol

Yes, hoorah for Dorothy Perkins! I've been a size 16 for most of my adult life, briefly hit 18 (before joining WW) and 14 (four months after WW) now back up to 16 and hoping to be a 14 by my wedding next August. Eeek!

Still same height but now 14stone and fit in enough 18's to say I'm a a size 18 Some still don't fit but that's duer to being pear shaped, over hanging tummy from 3 c-sections, etc. but size 20's definatly too big now.
It's strange, there was only a few pounds between a 24 and a 20 for me yet 2 stones between a 20 and 18.
