How do you address a Prince?

Dr. C., my boss, is in contact with one of his former aerospace students. This gentleman is a Prince. Obviously Dr. C. is on a first name basis with him. He still calls Dr. C. either professor or doctor. However, this man may come over for a visit and I want to address him properly.

Oh, he's from Saudi Arabia. I don't know if that makes a difference.

When you are in the main section (e.g. UK Chicks). There is an area stating something like forum tools. Click on that and it gives you the option to post a new thread.

This may be more information than you want--but the form of address for royalty is called a "style." If you go to wikipedia and search for royal and noble styles, you'll see that princes and princesses are generally styled "Your Royal Highness" if they are in the line of succession, or "Your Highness" if they are lesser princes and princesses.

So--maybe you need to know more about his title.

Also, search for prince in Wikipedia and you'll find out even more...

Hmm he's from Saudi he'd probably quite like "Asalamu Alaikum" .. lol... but saudi princes aren't the most religious if you get what I mean. Depends "Asalamu Alaikum Your (royal) highness" would probably get you a smile or two. Asalamu Alaikum means by the way "Upon you be peace" if you said that he'd probably reply "wa alaikum salam" or look shocked that you know how to say Asalamu Alaikum.

I would think that if you haven't had much dealing with someone who is muslim before and if he happens to be (or at least follows the customs), that maybe you should brush up on that. I wouldn't worry about addressing so much as respecting someones culture although they will generally not expect those outside the culture to know the customs.

Oh I haven't got a clue, don't believe in royalty. Russians had the best idea about them, IMHO.

And Prince William a 'hottie'? Ew. Don't you think the older he gets the more he gets that spooky look of Prince Edward? He's defo going to go bald early, too...

Hmmm very good approach. Although Bleedin' saudi prince's dont really follow Islam... actually the whole Saudi family doesnt really follow Islam not how its supposed to be... Actually most of the muslim nation doesn't follow Islam properly. But yeah... lol as Nelie said... showing that you know something.. even a little about his culture/customs will definately work WONDERS. I'm muslim and I love it when random people say "Asalamu Alaikum" to me. LOL what I really love is when random drunks on the streets say Asalamu Alaikum... I just find it very sweet.

Well I think I should steer clear of the whose Saudi Royal Family And Islam thing, LOL.

If he studied in the west, I should think he is used to dealing with non-Muslim folks. I think that saying asalamu aleikum would be a nice gesture. I'm Muslim too and I appreciate it when people know a little bit about my faith and try to be friendly. I would laugh and run away if drunks try to say salam to me.

But don't be too friendly. A little reserve and decorum would go a long way. I'm serious. (Some) Saudis have a certain reputation that does not involve adhering to any religious teachings and the best way for women to deal with them (if they must) is to be very businesslike and professional, with the minimum of chitchat.

And I think saying Your Highness would be o.k., he'll know that how English-speakers address princes, and I think the Arabic titles are probably really flowery and long-winded. Well, the ones in official news reports are... not sure how it would work in conversation because I don't hang out with royalty!
