Talking Steel Magnolias -- #5

Good Morning, Flowers! We had light snow coming down all day long but it didn't amount to much on the ground. The wind was something else though. We made a fast trip to Sioux City; Bob wanted to make a Menard's run and I wanted to check and see if the department stores had any spring clothes that I would consider bringing home. There are some ugly colors and styles out there for sure! I am too short for capris but bought a couple pair anyway. We stopped to see Beth and family for a little while and then headed to Jason's. We knew that he and his father-in-law were installing a new wood laminate floor, but didn't intend to stay any longer than to say 'hello', hug the grandkids, and leave. Well, 7 hours later we are on the road home again! The guys decided they could use an extra pair of adult hands and Bob was elected. He is going back tomorrow to help finish the kitchen and bathroom floors. I am staying home to do laundry and regroup for Monday.

I am going to bed! I hope you all have a great day!

Good afternoon girls! Sorry I am behind. Besides my still being sick, Jack took a turn for the worse and I was up from Friday night until this morning with him. Poor thing would be in bed, then down in the recliner than back upstairs like a yoyo. We finally went to one of the emergency clinics, which wouldn't take our insurance so I had to pay $130 just for an regular appt and then they put him on 5 meds and those cost me $50 and that was with our prescription plan. So, my pockets are a lot lighter. I also had to run and get my grandson something for Valentine's Day and get it mailed (I got him $30 worth of Chuck E Cheese gift cards) and it looks like I have to have the garage door opener replaced too and they gave us an estimate of $440! {{{Sigh}}}

I am so pooped, but I have to try and keep the house going and keep an eye on him and run the errands and cook too. Thank God we don't have kids or I would be in the loony bin by now.

You know some ladies say when they are stressed they are living on coffee and cigarettes, I am living on Pepsi and chocolate! It will be a big crash coming down, but it keeps my energy up until I can get Jack more on the mend. Looks like he has a huge sinus infection and it also settled behind his eye sockets so he has had a horrible headache right above his eyes we couldn't seem to get rid of and a regular headache from fever in the back of his head! This house is beginning to look like a pharmacy all by itself!

He is sound asleep right now as I think his meds have kicked in. The doctor put him on codeine at night so he can sleep and he has to stay home until at least Wednesday.

Guess I better go check on the laundry and get the roast started as all we had today was a quick breakfast.

Have a good Sunday (oh and we got about 4-5 inches of thick wet snow on Friday night and made for a real mess. It took out our satellite until Sat morning as there was snow on it and it didn't melt off until morning. Thomas had fun having a snowball fight with dad-Avatar)

Gosh, Faye, you are having such a bad spell of sickness. Jack, too! Now that you have the meds for Jack I hope they will kick in real quick and he will be on the mend soon. Remember, Faye, while your not feeling well the house can wait. It's not going anywhere and will wait for you. I know, Mrs. Clean, that will be real hard for you to do but health comes first.

Jean, I know what you mean about those colors. UGH! I think I will just make do with what I have for a while. Your kids are lucky to have a dad that is handy like Bob! The house will look great when the floors are done.

We are in the midst of a real Nor'Easter! I started snowing about 2AM and hasn't stopped since. We have between 12-18" of the white stuff. The plow guy came by this AM but he only did one turn up the drive and not even up to the garage doors. He usually shovels the last few feet and also the front walk and stairs.....but not today. He will probably come by around 2AM to finish. Jack says we have enough food.....let him take his time. It was snowing so hard earlier that the snow was coming down sideways and blowing....at least 2" per hour at times. Oh, well!....it is winter!!!

Take care all!

Good Afternoon, Flowers! The sun is shining and the snow is melting . . . can't get much better than that! It would feel 'warm' if the wind would quit blowing. I left school asap today because the teacher I work with the most and the BD teacher were going to duke it out in front of the special ed. director. The BD teacher has no class whatsoever so I'm anxious to find out who said what. I was a witness to part of the problem, but wasn't asked to sit in and I was glad.

'Gma' -- I'm sorry to see that you and Jack are having such a bad time! I hope by now that his meds have turned him in the right direction and he is on the mend -- you too! Like Gloria said, your housework can wait! I fixed a roast yesterday and hope it will last for most of the Bob's lunches this week. We just bought a new garage door opener from Sears for less than $200. They have all price ranges and Bob chose the middle of the road style. T will probably want you to go along to Chuck E Cheese!

Gloria -- Your weather made headlines on our newspaper! I am surprised at how fast the snow melts when the sun is out . . . the sun must be getting closer! I kidded Bob about how he should have done our floor and all of the money we could have saved. The only thing is that Amanda's dad builds wood furniture and has all the fancy saws, so he was the brains behind the project! We also put in about three times as much as they did.

I need to keep moving. Bob wants to start packing tonight and I need to figure out what clothes need to be washed to just freshen them up. I'm not going to bother ironing anything because there is an iron available in the rooms.

Have a relaxing evening and a terrific Tuesday!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO MY FAVORITE LADIES!

Jean: I hope you have a spectacular time in Hawaii! You are going to love it I am sure. Jack has been a couple times because of the Naval Base there, but I have never been.

Not much going on except medicine central here. We are coming around, he more than I now.

Everyone have a wonderful Valentine's Day and hope your honeys get you something nice!

Good Evening Flowers! I should be sorting through clothes but can do that later. I'm waiting for the dryer to finish.

Gloria -- We leave for Maui Saturday morning at 7:40 and arrive there at 3:10 which is 7:10 our time. . . .a long day! I am getting anxious! We are supposed to get a major snow storm tomorrow; the weatherman isn't sure just where it is going so we are on the alert.

'Gma' -- Bob sent flowers to me at school. I was kind of hoping he wouldn't because we'd be leaving and they wouldn't get any TLC while we are gone. I hope you and Jack are on the mend!

I need to keep moving! Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Good morning gals! I still have cold symptoms, but I have busted a groove and cleaned the whole house except for the downstairs mopping and I will do that early tomorrow morning. I have a plumber coming at 8 AM tomorrow to replace some leaking stems in the sink and tub in the hall bath and they have to replace a spout that fell right off the pipe. I am waiting to hear from Lowes for my install date for my garage door opener. Jack has no one to help him (except me and that ain't much help! ) put it up himself so we just paid for the install. We got a top of the line Genie door opener with install for $297. They don't charge tax (I guess it is included in the install price) so we actually get the instal for like $50 instead of $99. We got a quote from Overhead door for the same type product and it was a whopping $439! I do get tired of having to replace stuff in this old place though. Guess that is what happens when you buy a "fixer upper" so to speak and that is pretty much what we did. It had been empty for 2 years just sitting. Our main problem is plumbing here. Our bathroom still has a lot of work that has to be done on it. I have a leak in my toilet in there so I drained it and we don't even use it. I want to wait until spring then put it on my home warranty. The stuff I am having done tomorrow isn't covered. I also have a leak around the tub and we aren't using it right now either. I am going to get an estimate for the work for it tomorrow.

Jack and I are still pretty run down. He had to go back to work and I had to get a handle on he house before I have people in here. I have been stretching everything out since 6 AM and all I have left for today is to finish laundry and vacuum upstairs.

Jean: Do either of your cats spray? I am in a quandry as to whether it is my cat or dog doing this. I have full length tab top curtains in the living room and one of them pees on the bottoms all the time. I wash and dry them and put them back up and then find the pee stains on them again fairly quickly, but I haven't caught either one doing it. I am fed up cleaning the darn things though. One of the problems is the background is a very light tan so sometimes I don't see the urinre right away.

I need to get the rest of my work done including drying and putting back up the darn curtains!

Have a good day

Hi everyone! <waving>

Faye, I had a terrible cold and it took 7-8 days to get rid of it. I'm just now feeling 100%. One of my SIL has the flu. One of the profs that I work with had the flu last week and she's still feeling run-down. It takes time. Good price on the installing of the garage door. My oldest daughter and her husband (the other SIL) want to replace their garage door and opener. I think Lowe's is going to do the work for them.

Jean, going to Maui. Oh that is wonderful. I'm happy for you! Enjoy your trip--I know you will.

Gloria, your survived the nor'easter also! We got about 12 inches but oh the drifts! The temp is supposed to get up to 50 degrees today so there will be a lot of melting snow in my area. Stay warm.

I'm doing fine. I'm on program. Same old thing. Not a whole lot happening here....and that is a good thing. Right?

Good Evening, Flowers! I've been to bell choir practice and am now patiently (?) waiting for the weather to appear! Even the different TV weathermen can't agree on what is coming so I guess we'll just have to wait and see when it gets here. I'm betting we don't get anything.

'Gma' -- You must be feeling better if you are in the cleaning mode once again! Leonard would mark his territory from time to time; that is part of the reason we pulled all the carpet out. He never did it upstairs for some reason. I was never sure that it was him until he was gone and now we know. I ordered something from a TV ad -- you spray it on and then spray water on top of it to make it 'work.' It would work for awhile and then I think it would wear off. All I know for sure is not to use amonia when you clean because that will attract them right back to the spot. They say that a neutered animal won't spray but that is baloney in my book!

Gail -- Beth and her family have been passing a cold around all winter long. One gets to feeling better and then someone else gets sick. She said she told the doctor he needed to put in a revolving door! I guess it is the cold and flu season, but so far knock on wood, we have been lucky! I'm not looking forward to the long plane ride, but I will suffer through it!

I need to do some laundry and a few other things on my 'to do' list. Have a terrific Thursday!

Good morning gals! I am up early so I can be sure everything is just right for the plumbers to come. Can't let them see a messy house! I even went and cleaned out the cabinets under the sink in the bathroom to make sure they were neat if the plumber shuts off the taps under the sink to fix them! I am truly screwed up!

I talked to my sister yesterday and she is coming down here on April 1. I don't know what I am going to do with her. She is on oxygen and C-Pap and meds out the wazoo, doesn't like to walk, hates shopping, falls asleep in movies, wants to go to the casinos, but she has terrible lung distress so I don't really think that is such a great idea, but we will probably go because it is the one thing she wants to do. She will be here from Sat night until Wed morning. We may take her down to Beale street for dinner at a BBQ place that has blues music. Anyone have any ideas?

Jean: It is getting closer and closer. You have to be getting excited.

Gail: I still have the sniffles and am pluggin up at night, but I am on the mend I guess. Jack came home wiped out last night though.

Well, I need to get the ole morning chores downstairs done. I have floors to mop before the plumbers get here at 8:30.

Have a great day everyone

Happy Thursday!

It is so nice outside! It's in the 50's and I feel we're in the middle of a heat wave. Of course, on the weekend it's going to be down to a high of 30 degrees and that's going to seem colder.

Not a whole lot to report--that's why y'all got a weather report!

Faye, are you kidding? I clean for repairmen also! Heaven forbid they see a dirty bathroom, dust bunnies, or a dusty piece of furniture. Like they care! Which they do not. Hmmm...what to do with your sister...going out to dinner is about the only thing I guess. You can always rent a bunch of movies so if she falls asleep at least she won't be in public (ya' know drooling or snoring...if she's prone to do one of those! ) Would she like to learn how to knit? Just a suggestion...

Jean, isn't that the truth about weather forecasters! Change the channel and you get a different report. I say just stick your head out the window and figure it out yourself!

I'm on program. I'm drinking water. I'm exercising. I'm tracking food.

Good Afternoon, Flowers! I am doing a happy . . . we have NO SCHOOL today and that just never happens in this little burg! I'm sure there were some students who showed up regardless; they always do because they don't listen to the radio. I'm glad the weather arrived today rather than tomorrow when we will be leaving town. Anyhow, I should be on top of things and not doing the midnight rush which is my usual m. o., I hope!

'Gma' -- I hope your plumbers don't make a big mess for you to clean up. We have a friend who was the Sears repairman and he says every cat box in the country sits right by the washer and dryer! I'm sure they could tell some real stories about how people live. I know I don't clean like I used to. Does your sister like to play board games or cards? Maybe T could bring a game or two over and entertain her!

Gail -- I wouldn't want to stick my head out the window today! It's NOT nice out there! Congrats on being OP -- my program is long gone for awhile! I'm hoping to find some motivation by the time we get back from Maui.

Well, I need to keep moving. Have a great day whatever you are up to!

Jean -- from Iowa!

Good morning gals! I am not a happy camper. The plumber came, fixed the faucets, but took the pipe and everything for the spout saying he would have to go to parts and get a new one. He isn't coming back until late this afternoon so we have no way to bathe! On top of that, Jack had to CALL to make sure they were going to come back today because no one called us with a time. He was also an hour late even though we were the first call he made, then charged us for 2 hours work even though he was only here an hour! Get this, the parts cost 60 cents and the bill was $200! I got up to go to the bathroom and found that the sink is still dripping that he supposedly fixed! On top of that, we bought the new garage opener and they have yet to call with an install appt. We called them yesterday afternoon and the girl got snippy about our contract reading they had 48 hours to call and set up an appt and Jack told her it was 50 hours when we called. She aquiesced and said she would check and call back, which she never did. If they don't call today, I am going back to Lowes and blow my stack! (Jack is not a forceful person when it comes to stuff like this and so I am going to have to be the butt kicker here) We bought 5 appliances, all our paint and supplies for the whole condo, all new lighting for the whole condo, some furniture and some small appliances there when we bought the condo and I am crawling up the manager's behind and tell them we won't even buy another light bulb in there if they don't get their act together and get our install done. I am going to tell him that we shouldn't have to pay for something that they didn't follow through with (of course the payment for this stuff has already gone through my bank! They are johnny on the spot with that!)

Jean: You are snowed in and we had 70 degree temps yesterday! I looked at the thermostat when I went up to bed last night and it read 76! It has gone back to being chilly though and is supposed to be cold tomorrow and snow so it didn't last.

Gail: So much for cleaning. He tramped his nasty boots all over my throw rugs and I had to put them in the washer and then the mess he made with the sink and tub! UGH!!!!! I cleaned it all up even though he will come back today and grime it all up again. Hopefully he will get that spout replaced!!!

I guess I better go and get the morning started. The guy is not supposed to be here until noon to 2 PM but I want to make sure I have everything done before he gets here.

Hello gals! Just a short one so we can stay on at least page 2!

Jean: Hope you are all ready to go, get out ok and have a scrumptious time in Hawaii! Make sure you get kissed by a good lookin' guy when you get your leis!

I now have a bathtub that is all fixed again and they are coming to install my garage door opener early on Monday. I am also getting the new bed for the extra bedroom on Monday and the bedding should be here Tuesday so I can get it set up. My sister is supposed to be here April 1 so the new curtains will be here and hung up and all the new stuff I bought to put in the hall bath before she comes. I want to get the wallpaper stripped and painted in the bathroom as it is really old and peeling, but I don't know if I am going to have the time because I may need Jack's help.

Everyone have a great Saturday. It is sleeting here so I will definitely be staying in today. We went on a date night last night and had dinner at Dan McGuinness Pub and then went to see The Pink Panther. I tried to talk Jack into going to Firewall as I knew he would not like the Pink Panther with all it's silliness, but he insisted because I wanted to see it. Steve Martin did a wonderful job as Inspector Clouseau. Peter Sellers would have been proud!
