21 day challenge!!!

Well here I am...bringing the 21 day challenge to where I'm usually post!! :D This was a thread that was posted in the Support Groups Forum.....well....it kind of got lost and many people stopped posting...me included. But I started it again then decided, that I would rather stay in my corner of the board and keep track here. This is pretty much for my own benefit...but if any of you would like to join me....that would be great.

Here is how it works. You choose something that you would like to work on and do it for 21 days. (to make it a habit) Such as drink 80oz. of water, walk a mile, or what ever else may come to mind. You do a count down. But if you miss a day...you start over to day one. And you can start over many times, but if you're constantly starting over.....well then....I would say maybe you should find something else to work on for 21 days.

Here is what I'm working on.

Eating Breakfast
Drinking up to 80oz. of water

Simple you say.....believe me,,,,it's not as simple as it sounds...there have been times that I just had to start over.

Since I've already started this, this is my day 5. (although....one morning I only had coffee for breakfast at Shanna's...but I still counted that!)

Anyone want to join me??

Great thread, Marti!

To those of you who are more "fit", this may seem like a wimpy thing, but I want my challenge to be to include citrus fruit everyday! Vitamin C is so important to us, and our bodies don't store it. Therefore, we really need some vitamin C everyday, preferably from real food, (which includes fiber), not a supplement. Sometimes, though, I skip my orange or forget about it, and this thread will help me remember!

That is my challenge!

After I posted above, I started thinking of other sources of Vitamin C, and went to check it out at WebMD.com, and found this interesting list.

Provided by Mark Levine, MD, an endocrinologist at the National Institutes of Health:

Source (in milligrams) Amount of Vitamin C
1/2 cup orange juice 50
1/2 cup fortified grape juice 120
medium orange 70
medium kiwi fruit 75
1 cup sliced strawberries 95
1/4 medium cantaloupe 60
1/2 cup cooked broccoli 60
1/2 cup cooked Brussels sprouts 50
medium baked potato 25
1/2 cup raw tomato 15
baked sweet potato 30
1/2 cup fresh, cooked snow peas 40
1/2 cup raw green pepper 65

Bring on the strawberries!!!!

Ooh, I am interested. Now I just have to think of something to do. Hey Marti, any ideas???????

Marti 03-20-2004 03:32 AM

Day 6 was successful. I had my breakfast this morning before shopping and I have been drinking water like crazy!! I feel so dehydrated!! I wonder if it's from all the struggling I did trying on dresses???

So Day 6 done!!

Jana...I'm glad you're joining.....and I don't think your challenge is a wimpy thing at all. In fact, I've considered doing my next one as "taking a vitamin every day" that is very hard for me....I don't know why I don't take it very often!

Shanna.....Water? Walking? What do you struggle with most?

Ok....now I'm off to bed.

Jane 03-20-2004 07:12 AM

Day one - had an orange. :cp:

FrouFrou 03-20-2004 08:32 AM

Good job Marti & Jana! :cp: :bravo: :cp:

I am going to jump on this 21 day challenge as soon as I figure out what it is I want to work on, I have a couple of things I need to but I am not going to try and do both. I post later when I decide.

OK, I thought of one...I am going to do at least 20 sit ups/crunches per day for the next 21 days. I want my middle smaller so it'll fit into my graduation dress better. *grin*

I think I will make my challenge in what I struggle with the most and that is being consistent in my walking.
I kind of do it this day and not the next.
Depending on the weather, depending on my mood.
An excuse here and an excuse there..........being half arse about it..lol

So, 30 minute walk a day, I can certainly fit that in my schedule.

Vitamins...

Okay, I have decided I will work on taking my vitamins. I don't know why I have such a hard time taking them-I mean they are sitting in a basket on the kitchen counter and I only see them 15 times a day. :^: Just don't think to take them, so starting tomorrow I am going to work on that for the next 21 days. Once that is done I will start on something else to make it a habit.

Okay, scratch that. I had to go upstairs and put a load of clothes in the dryer and grabbed my vitamins. No time like the present right? :) so, day 1 down.

Hey ladies,

Something to work on for 21 days.....I can think of lots, but I'll start with the one that my doctor recommended for me to do that would aid me the most. Eat breakfast. So starting tomorrow, that will be my first challenge.

FrouFrou 03-21-2004 03:47 PM

Day two down-I just hope I can keep this up long enough to make it a habit. :)

fropvd 03-21-2004 07:25 PM

Day two done...I just about squeeze it in before going to sleep.

Jane 03-21-2004 07:38 PM

Day 2 I had a green pepper cut into strips on my salad and Day 3 (today) I had an orange w/my breakfast.

Mom2Gaby 03-21-2004 07:50 PM

Day 1
I walked 30 mintues (plus 10).

I didn't walk yesterday, I spent that thinking about it :)

So, this is my Day 1.
