Good morning fine ladies,

I am going to try something to see if I've found a "get around" from the usual hassle of doing and losing my post. I'll be gone for a bit while I'm typing...

First of all We are snow covered and cold here - more like Christmas than Halloween - the kids will have to bundle up. We have never gotten trick or treaters here - too isolated. They do a "trunk or treat" in town where people who want to participate put their candy in the trunk of their cars and park all along the downtown streets. Kids then walk from car to car and collect their goodies. More efficient, makes much more sense. Some times I would like to decorate my house for Halloween but only DH and I would see it and not worth the effort. I should donate my decorations to the thrift shop as I don't use them - I used to go all out when we lived in Memphis.

So yesterday I went to the doctor (in my town instead of the other clinic I went to an hour away on the 19th). I told them I never got the arch supports they were supposed to send me. He was frustrated, the nurse looked it up and they are on "back order". Doesn't do me much good he said - fortunately I had a pair from my last podiatrist. They gave me another pair (more convenient than having to switch back and forth between outside boots and shoes). He said he liked the office in my town because they had a well stocked clinic compared to the other place - and here I was thinking we had the low end ghetto clinic since ours is the oldest one of the hospital group. I did tell him that I was religiously wearing the arch support, doing my plantar stretches, icing and using Motrin as an anti inflammatory. While it eased a bit of the plantar fasciitis it did not do squat for the tendonitis. I asked for steroids or cortisone to ease the inflammation and he shook his head vigorously. He said steroids actually weaken the structure. NEVER let someone near you with an injection near a tendon injury because it will eventually rupture. He said we have to get more aggressive which meant immobilization. So now I am clomping around in a toe to knee black plastic "storm troopers" boot. It is not without it's own set of complications - the boot has a rounded bottom which rocks back and forth and that takes some getting used to. It's also about 3 inches higher than your other leg so the hips are uneven and it can cause pain. Also it's tight and hard plastic and even though you can adjust it, there are parts that can press into the leg itself uncomfortably. I am still doing about 1/2 hour on my feet and then off for an hour which means I don't get a heck of a lot done. I had the doctor's appointment in the hospital complex but had a long way to walk to get to my 3pm Stepping On class at the far end of the hospital area. I took my rolling walker to lean on and as I was clomping down the hall past the rehab department one kindly gentleman popped his head out and asked if I was ok. I said I was going to a class and he offered me a ride in a wheelchair which I gratefully accepted. Didn't learn anything exciting in Stepping On class to share this week - they just talked about home hazards this week - loose rugs, spills on floors, improper reaching for things using unsteady surfaces and too long tripping things like hanging bedspreads, too long robes or pjs, etc.

DH went to Duluth to get me new tires for the Avalon. Tonight we are going to some seminar on energy efficiency. We get a free steak dinner - just like old people

We actually could use new windows I'm afraid to say. It's very cold in the house with the furnace not working properly. It's 63 in here - colder than what I keep it at night. I have the thermostat (the new one DH replaced yesterday) cranked up to 76 and it's still cold. The furnace runs for about 3 minutes and shuts off. We have a gas fireplace in the living room that will heat the front of the house and that's what I have on now. It's just that it burns alot of propane so once this area gets to 70 degrees I will shut it off. The front of the house has large windows and it's chilly in here - I'm sure it's the windows. We are probably talking 40 to 50 thousand to replace the windows. I think I will give it one more season and then talk to DH about it in the spring time. We have spent enough money for this year already.

Hmm... I am doing an edit and for some reason can't see your posts to do personals so I'm going to post this and look again.

ok, now I see your posts.

Yikes Laura - I can't imagine biking to the train in this weather. Brrrrrrr. You are a trooper. Especially if you get a late autumn cold rain and slippery leaves. No, I have no special plans for my stash of cash. Just hang on to it if we go to the casino again or I see something I want to splurge on. DH came home from blackjack yesterday and said he won $100 but I noticed he did not split his winnings. I will have to remind him since he got another $200 from me on Sunday I guess I missed something - what is the album covers you are talking about - are you having a party and you are bringing LP record albums? Ok now that we know half of us are lefties, we can eat comfortably around a table with each other

Ceejay - hope you like the new tablet. Ugh - love me some donuts - I can't be trusted around them either Best to buy 2 and enjoy them and not have the temptation around. But got to have a treat once in a while.

Annie - you haven't complained about the dreaded reports in a while - did they take that away from you? I'm guessing not. Bummer that the Greek restaurant closed down. I would miss the egg lemon soup. Hey if you go to bingo on Thursday night that means you and I will be playing bingo at the same time in 2 different states

Shad - I sure hope DS's company does not go on strike. That's really hard on the bank account.

Susie - looks like everyone has coats on sale - good time to go looking for one!

Time to flip the washing load and get up and move a bit. Have a good one ladies.

HAPPY HALLOWEENIE!! Said Sassy girl!

HAPPY....dreaded reports are still on! Bleh. Just not complaining about them anymore, doesn't do any good. You have put so much work into the commune it is now a mansion or worth at least a mansion's price. Shall we all just net deposit our SS checks into your bank account when we move in? lol. That is if it is still there in 10 years. Nice snag on the drawing $$. Not sure I would of shared half with C. Your DH probably thought you had enough winnings that you did not need his half of the 100. Men and their thinking. bah. Danged ole foot. Can't get any relief from anything. Surgery?? I think I would try the cortisone shot at least once. One couldn't possibly tear up your tendons. You are welcome from Dr. Hoh.

LAURA...good to hear you are recovering, but ever so slowly. Windy and very cold here too. Looks like next week is supposed to be 60s to 70. No wonder everyone is snotting around. I am having a lot of draining of the sinuses. Also a lot of sneezing. Not sure what that is all about. Of course I was around cats for extended periods of time last week on Wednesday and Thursday evening. Probably trying to recover from that. We were lazy this year. We didn't carve pumpkins. We used fat permanent markers and just drew on them. Was a lot easier and less messy. The kids thought it was great. I guess I will have to stop and pick up some sort of candy on my way home from work. It is so expensive if you get the good stuff like chocolate (cause it is safe around me, yuk). Like 21 servings for 6 bucks. I would have to buy about 6 bags. For candy, I think not.

CEEG...hope you are enjoying your new tablet. I disconnected mine from my cell account. Didn't use it much. The kids used it to play games and watch stuff, but couldn't see spending the extra on it. Good on you for getting to the gym.

Hello to all... will chat more tomorrow. Gotta hit the loo then get on my 2:30 call.

Love and Hugs my friends.

Happy
It would be better if I could just buy two donuts that way I would not binge.
I do like the tablet. It is smaller than the other one though and the older one bit the dust. I was expecting it. That is another reason I ended up with this one.
How long do you have to wear the boot?
Yikes on the snow. Parts of northern Missouri was getting snow flurries. Well poo on Dh for not deciding his win. At least you have a back up for heat.

Laura
I suppose I'm getting to old to be riding a bicycle out doors especially during inclement weather. How are you feeling?

Annie
Saw the boys picture on FB. They were cute. Halloween doesn't enthuse me any more especially living alone in a new city.

_-------------
Not much going on in my neck of the woods. It was cold again today with the high of 46, therefore,I didn't go to the gym. Plus I had another flare up with my stomach. I forgot to take my med before I ate breakfast. Told my sis that I'm going to cut way back on my cokes. I should probably cut back on my sugar intake also.

Morning all. Another chilly, blustery day. Last night I finally remembered to stitch the seam that opened up on the finger of one of my fleece gloves. Only after wearing them the better part of two weeks.

Happy – Do you still decorate the inside of the house for various holidays/seasons? == Oy, the boot. The admin has been wearing one forever for a broken bone in her foot. She’s definitely experienced what you mentioned re the rounded bottom of the boot, and the difference in height. She’s been trying to transition back to regular shoes and yesterday she received a pair of shoes she ordered online. The brand is Drew, which are supposed to be good for problem feet. So far so good. I might check into those. Hers are Mary Jane's because she has trouble keeping slip-ons on her feet, and due to nerve damage, she doesn’t necessarily feel bad things happening with her feet right away. I agree that MJ’s stay securely on your feet, but I prefer lace-up shoes for that purpose. Particularly for when I’m walking. If I’m at work, slip-ons are alright. Anyway, very interesting about cortisone shots, but I have also heard that they aren’t good to have on a frequent basis. I’d still have wanted the shot! That said, I hope the immobilization of your foot in that boot helps you get some relief! == So how was the free steak dinner? What was the seminar about – furnace, windows, solar panels?? Wow, that’s a lot of money to replace the windows! I’d use our fireplace more if I didn’t know that opening that damper is just like having a window open! == The album covers (and the concert t-shirt and cassettes) are for decorations for the 80’s music themed party on our floor for the fundraiser at work. I brought in two covers today – The Cars and The Police. = LOL, loved your comment about us lefties being able to sit comfortably around the table with each other. Reminds me of a time when the entire family went out to dinner and when we were being seated, my 2 lefty siblings (only one is a righty) and I of course sought out the best spots for ourselves, LOL. Tables are easier. Not as easy in a booth – bf always wants to sit on the outside if we’re sitting next to each other (i.e., when there’s more than just the two of us). == Enjoy bingo tonight.

Annie – Love the idea of drawing on the pumpkin – definitely less hassle. == Oh yes, the cat dander will certainly get to you if you are sensitive to that. Gesundheit!!

Ceejay – I say just go to a real bakery and buy one good donut for yourself every once in a while! Are there any real bakeries in your area? We have a couple of good ones near us. In fact, I might need to go to the one next door to the thrift shop on a Sunday morning because that’s the day they have the apple cider doughnuts. I’ve never had one before and want to try one before they stop selling them for the season. == I’m feeling pretty well now, thanks for asking. == Sorry your stomach was bothering you. Back to the meds and cutting back on the cokes!! == I can't say I'm not looking forward to the end of my bike commuting this week. Just tonight and tomorrow and that's it. I'm taking a vacation day on Friday, and then on Sunday the time changes (fall back!) and it will be too dark for me to want to cycle home after work.

Hellos to Shad and Susie and Dee!! Everyone have a great rest of the day.

Nothing new with me except thinking how nice it would be to be independently wealthy. Sigh. Okay, let me just get this posted.

Hi all,

Well as we continue to "rebuild the mansion" as Annie so aptly put, we now need a new furnace. Geez they sure don't build things to last. This house was built in 2001 and the guy who built it used the best of materials yet we have had to replace: the deck (which was incorrectly built), the roof (wear and tear and storm damage), the siding (the one thing he used that was cheap vinyl), the furnace, ALL of the kitchen appliances (dishwasher, microwave, stove and refrigerator), the main entry door, add another sump pump to the basement (because they built the basement too deep and water seeps in). We will need to replace the front windows - I don't want to think about that quite yet... And my 13 year old washing machine is just barely hanging in there. Oh well... can't live up here without a furnace and it costs too much to use the fireplace to heat things up. DH went out to order the new one, hope it won't take over a week to get it in - the current one is barely heating the house above 62 degrees. The repair guy yesterday said they are very busy but we are a propane customer and they tend to give us preference.

Yesterday afternoon the pair of arch supports they supposedly ordered on the 19th showed up (after I took another pair from the doctor this week). They really had my address wayyyy off from what it should be. The delivery guy called and couldn't find our house - fer sure as it was totally wrong except for the road name. Those are going back as they are a wide width and the ones I have now are just fine. The boot is helping a bit with the tendonitis but my leg is sore from all the hard plastic points digging into it even though there is a thick layer of foam. I just can't walk around on it. Plain and simple.

I talked to Mom who loved her box of presents for her birthday. Her most favorite thing besides the new James Patterson books I bought was a t-shirt from the Thrift Shop. I KNEW IT. When I saw it I said this is just the kind of shirt Mom would steal out of my closet and sure enough. It was a soft white t-shirt with appliqued red white and blue stars on it. She did like everything in the box. My sister loved her fun box too - I sent her some cute things one of which was socks for my BIL that said "this meeting is B.S." We all secretly want to wear those socks.

I have my writing class shortly and tonight we are going to a cooking class with the chef. He's doing GAME meats which does not exactly have me enthused. I would have skipped it but DH was interested in it. Supposed to be a wet sloppy snow coming this afternoon too.

Ceejay - our grocery store has a bakery section as well as the bakery in town so one can buy smaller portions of baked goods. I saw a box of pumpkin spice donuts at the store but they were 12 in a box - WAY too many for one person to eat. So I never got to taste them. You may find that when you cut back on the Coke your stomach issues also settle down - alot of acid in the Coke that bothers things. Have you figured out where all the best shopping is in town now? Seemed for a while that you were venturing out further and further.

Annie - funny you mention Dr. Hoh - I was flipping channels and he was advertising some new gizmo on one of the cable channels that sells stuff all the time. He does not look like I pictured him - more like a car salesman Yes, I think you are exactly right with DH not sharing his money since he thought I had enough of my own. However he is pretty good about giving me some money (not always as much as I want ) when I tell him I need some. And a few years ago he sold his gold chains and bracelet and gave me half of that too so I should not have complained. Did you take the kids out trick or treating yesterday? I hear you on the cost of the candy. They show it on sale but it's small bags and the big ones cost a FORTUNE!!! I can't believe how expensive candy has become. Glad I don't have to buy for Halloween any more. What kinds of costumes did the boys wear?

Ok, well I have again blown the morning but I did discuss flooring and furnaces with DH, called Frigidaire to find out where my missing part is, finally scored a 50 percent off coupon for Lands End so I could order the pricey sweater I was eyeing for about 3 weeks AND I also found a coupon for RetailMeNot - my favorite coupon place that will give me $20 cash back on that purchase. SCORE!!!

I need to hop in the shower and get ready for class. I have not been good about keeping up with my writing.

Hello to Laura probably typing over me as well as the rest of you fine ladies. Catch up later.

Laura - BEST APPLE CIDER donuts ever are at the Apple House in Long Grove Village. They are the ones that taste most like apples. The others are more sugar cinnamon donuts. Still good but not as apple tasting.

My DH got Kuru brand for his plantar fasciitis and he said they helped him alot. I tried them - one pair had stitching that rubbed the outside of my foot - another pair didn't work for me. I wish they had the lace up boot type for women / hiking shoes that DH got. I have wide feet and it's hard to find shoes that come in a wide width.

80's party eh? Are you getting shoulder pads (I think they are in style again) and BIG HAIR Should be fun.

oh no - I see the Apple Haus closed in 2012! that's the problem with moving away. I guess another person was going to take that over but the last article was Feb of 2016 and I see nothing further so I guess the donuts by you will have to do. Apple Haus also made those fabulous apple pies baked in a brown bag that were incredible. Ok, enough with the food porn Happy.

This street was quiet last night. May have been to cold for the Trick or Treat.
Thinking about getting something other than Wi-Fi for my ISP.

I'm sure my stomach will do a lot better if I do cut back on my cokes and I have for a couple of days now. I don't want any more episodes like I had yesterday. It is just as close to go to a town called Republic about 10 minutes down the road. They have all kinds of shops. And also on Republic road which is just inside the city limits of Springfield. Mainly I do most of my shopping when I go to Branson. The donut shop is way to far to go just for a couple of donuts and I don't get them that often.

Laura
I may look online to check out the Drew brand of shoes.

Wonder what happened to my post last night. It was only a short one. Seemed to be okay but I can't see it now.

Basically I mentioned that Happy should sit opposite a right handed crochet maker. That way you are both doing the same thing in opposite directions. Mirrors are only good if you know what you are doing.

I've been busy clearing some of the old gardening stuff out of the shed and the old paint pots. The refuse tip will take them over the weekend and dispose of them properly. Otherwise I have to drive for miles to try to get rid of the stuff. The Refuse Dump is just down the road.
Also painting the laundry, hall and bedroom. The bathroom is nearly finished. Just some decorating stuff to go in there now and I will get some photos to show you. Laundry will take a little longer since I am dithering about the cabinetry to go in there.

Anyway. Best go sort out a few more things and get dinner on. Back later.

Hidee HoH everyone!

Ghosts don't make mistakes...they make boo boos!

CEEG...Back away from the donuts and coke. The more you eat/drink them the more you will crave them. I am so blessed not to like sweets, plus if I do eat them I get a rotten headache. It has been a long 10 months since no popcorn. I do miss it but don't think about it unless at a movie theater or the boys pop some. Then it is only a fleeting moment.

LAURA...glad you are feeling better. Yes, I too think about being independently wealthy quite often. Off to work I go. Skip the apple cider donut, just eat an apple.

HAPPY...Wow for all that you have put into that place you could of built a house. Yeeee. With your boot...I bought a pair of inserts with an arch on Amazon for 7 bucks. Then I wore it in my boot. Amazing the difference and feeling..can't help you with the off size legs due to the boot unless you buy one of those shoes with the 3 or 4 inch entire sole. W H A T??? Momma liked all of her goodies in her birthday box? No complaints this time?....YET? Glad she was pleased. See you can do something right. bah. Sam and Chris took the boys ToTing. I stayed home and gave out candy. Jacob was spiderman and Royce was the blue power ranger. Too cute. See FB for pics of the boys.

SHADDIE...glad you came up for air. Please post pics of the new reno on the bath now that it is completed. Give ODDU a hug for me.

Posting and will come back.

Let's see. Got the $$ from the refinance of Cs house. It was in the account for about a 1/2 a day. Paid off some major bills that will give us some breathing room. Nice feeling to think that 225. will no longer be deducted from my account for the parent loan. Also the 60 bucks for the insurance on C Durrango that we sold. No one was driving it either. I feel like I just got a raise.

Samantha is running in a 5K marathon this Saturday. She took up donations for water systems in poor countries. The boys and I are going downtown to cheer her on. Thank God it is supposed to be halfway warm and no rain. Then Sunday is Sam's bd. She will be 32. Man how did she get that old and how did I get that old? I am having a small bd dinner on Sunday for her. She requested my keto beef roast, which is nice and it soooooooooooooooo good. Green beans and mashed potatos. For her bd cake she wants my homemade apple pie. Apple pie is her normal request instead of cake.

Therapy is going well. I love my therapist. Of course I do. She told me she is leaving that company on Nov 29th. I have 4 sessions left with her. I can get a new therapist at that company or take it upon myself to follow her to her new place which is just a mile down the road from where I go. She said wait on either decision until the end of the month as I am doing so well. Always someone throwing a wrench into my serenity. Bleh

THat is about all I can think of at the moment.

Make it a great day all. Love and hugs all.

It's another day. Going to rearrange some rooms today. I want to move the office into the smaller bedroom and put the guest room in the bigger bedroom. Think it will be better than the way I have it now. I'll get nephew to help me. He told me yesterday that he wanted to hang out this week end since his wife has gone to be with her best friend during the birth of her first child. Her mom can't go until the week end.
Sis called last night upset. She was almost home when another car hit her head on. Thankfully that area is curvy so one has to go slow. She said she saw her crossing over the line and pulled over to the curb next to the bluff but the person still hit her. The other driver was talking on her cell phone.

--------
Annie
Think my body is telling me it has had enough. I made brownies last night but threw them out this morning. The made my tummy upset.

Shad
You are a busy woman. Can't wait for the pictures.

More later.

Morning all. Milder temps today. It wasn’t raining when I left the house this morning, so I walked to the train for the first time in who knows how long. It was a nice enough walk, though I was thinking about how much leaf mold was probably in the air and how much I was inhaling as I walked. I’m sure the lungs won’t appreciate it. It was raining when I went home last night, so I got a ride home and the bike stayed at the train station. Hopefully it won’t be raining after work and I can ride it home and be done with it for the season.

Happy – Oh dear, new furnace. And you’re right, that’s not an old enough house to have to replace all those items – yikes! We’ve done a lot in the 17 years we’ve owned our house, but it’s a 1956 house and a lot of the replacements have been to original items – furnace, windows, garage door, front door, some electrical… Just a fact of life I guess, especially with appliances that have a planned useful life and aren’t made to last very long or be economical to repair (vs. replace). Cars and houses are just becoming big containers holding multiple computers and - to me – are more complicated than they need to be for often no good reason at all.

End of rant, back to you – I assume your new furnace will be a super-duper energy efficient one. At least there's that. Hope you can get it delivered quickly and installed quickly. == I’m happy that your mom loved her box of goodies, and your sister too. You have to remember that for Christmas! (sorry, was it too early to say that word??!!) Maybe the key is a bunch of little things like that, because there’s bound to be something in there to like. And it’s the little things that please, not just the big fancy expensive things. == Re the donuts – I recall many years ago being with bf at a fest in Grove and there was a loooong line outside a place that had the apple stuff. It probably had to be that place you mentioned. Having never tasted any of their stuff, I can’t imagine making a special trip to Long Grove to get it, since it’s not close to our house. So I’ll try a donut from the place near us and see how it is. An apple fritter actually sounds better to me, LOL.

Ceejay – Probably a really good thing the donut shop is too far away to just go and pick up a donut or two whenever the craving hits. I have to resist temptation to not go to the bakery near us every Sunday to pick up a pastry to enjoy while I drink my tea and read the Sunday paper. == Oh gosh, how horrible for your sister to be in another collision! No injuries I hope!!! I also hope this time the police were on the scene and that she has all the details of the other driver and the police report so the insurance can be handled properly.

Shad – As a lefty, I did/do a lot of things right-handed because that’s how I learned them from others. == Interesting about the old paint cans – I remember trying to find a drop-off spot last year at my mom’s when we were clearing out her house. There was a concern about leaving the place completely empty or risk some kind of fines or something as threatened as part of the property sales contract. I guess that's necessary because some people who move out might just leave a bunch of stuff for the next person if it's not convenient to dispose of. == Sounds like you’re getting close to being done with all those renovations! What in the world will you do with yourself after that??!! Good thing there always seems to be another project or repair to be done when houses are involved, LOL. Looking forward to seeing photos.

Annie – I’ll probably be underwhelmed by that cider donut when I get around to trying it, so I almost certainly return to eating apples. I won’t say the apple won’t have some peanut butter on it because I do enjoy them w/ pb every once in a while…. In fact I just read about a new way to make them – core the apple, slice in thin slices, spread a slice with pb and put another slice on top – like a sandwich. I don’t have a corer (just the thingy that cores and cuts it in wedges), so I probably won’t get around to trying that anytime soon. == Nice to wipe out some bills with the refi money. Enjoy your “raise”. == Sounds like a tasty bday dinner on Sunday. Don’t be surprised if I show up at the door, LOL. Happy birthday wishes to S! == What a bummer that the therapist is leaving her company. I hope you can work it out to move to her new place and continue with her.

Hi Susie. You must be busy at work. Are you working from home today? Good luck at your TOPS meeting tonight. == What a great photo of you on fb!

It’s my Friday and that’s about it for anything good about this work week. Today are the fundraising parties, but I’m just not in the mood to participate in anything this year. It will likely be loud on our floor once the parties get going because they don’t just have the party in the conference rooms, but they spill/spread out all over the floor with games and raffles, etc. I have a project in mind that I can do during this, but I’ll also be leaving right on the dot today to make the earlier train (and begin my weekend). If it’s not raining, I want to get home before dark to ride my bike home from the station.

Okay, I’ll get this posted.
