Morning all.

Michelle - Well, you're all moved out of your stepmom's, so that's good. I'm sure it'll take a little while to get yourself settled into D's, though you've gone through several moves in the past year, so you're practically a pro by now. Re the Dominick's chain closing in Chicagoland - it was actually a very large chain in our town - one of the two largest. Not sure how many years back, they'd been purchased by Safeway. I believe that a union workforce was part of what made them less able to compete with the other area chains (i.e., Jewel). Wow, complicated work situation for you...are you balancing 3 jobs now, or is it two?! I don't even think I could keep them all straight!! I hope that the issue Shad warned of (a reputation as a job hopper) doesn't become an issue for you during this relatively short span of time, and that you can get an idea if the SF job will work out for you.

Happy - The Mel memory with the tenant smoking up the building was a good one - as I always said - never a dull moment in that building. And thanks for the article link - typical Mel. I hope the kitty bed situation has been worked out and Nina and Meadow are playing nice. Good luck with your cable situation. I just scheduled a bunch of DVR recordings and bf went in an deleted a bunch of shows he recorded because the boxes were getting full I guess. A bunch of his shows were reruns...

Shad - I hope the boisterous tenants aren't a regular thing for you. RE revisiting the project from 2+ years ago, I do have some decent files and correspondence, so that's helpful. And we just called back some files from storage to look at. In fact, the boxes just arrived a few minutes ago and I'll pull out the folders we want so the boss and I can spend an hour looking through them for what we need. Awww, tiny baby Isaac. He does look like he's really focusing more than such a young baby normally does...

Ceejay - I sure hope your friend gets to a doctor - this seems like it's been going on for a while. Re the yoga workout - I'd have to stop when it came to the splits too!! And that was a beginner video???

Annie - I hope you're getting through this tough time with your brother and cousin's illnesses. We're here for you girl!!

Hi Susie!! Hope you're getting caught up at work and able to enjoy your holidays at home!

----
It was a rather slothful weekend for me given I should have been shopping so I could avoid a mad scramble today and tomorrow. Oh well...I did do a few loads of laundry and the requisite dog walks. I also made a batch of yummy spiced pecans - sugar, vanilla, cinnamon. Those'll be for tomorrow, and I'll probably make another batch to bring to the gathering on Wednesday.

The holiday potluck at the neighbor's house was very nice. Glad they resurrected it, and I hope it'll come back in future years.

I'm working today, and then be off work Tues - Thursday. I have to get going on my quarter-end work, so I plan to be in the office on Friday even though I'm sure I won't want to be!

Okay, I just know someone is probably typing over me, so I'll post and see who it was. TTFN!!

Awww, Happy, what a nice Mel memory. I do recall reading about Jen painting the windows and the senior activities Mel always took the lead on. Re the painted windows - our local taqueria always has painted windows for all the holidays and bf and I thought it would be fun to have a big snowman painted on our big picture window for the holidays. We even asked the restaturant folks for the painter's phone number, but apparently he just shows up and paints, not on any arranged schedule. Too bad, would have been something different for the block. Maybe we should check out the internet to see how it's done, i.e., special paint, etc.

And a big good morning from me. I'm sure everyone is rushing about getting ready for Santa tomorrow night. If I do get cards out, they will obviously be late. Sorry for that and thank you to those who have sent them out. I want to get to the store today to pick up a few things and then I have some laundry and tidying up. Would like to spend the time tomorrow and the next enjoying the time with the only "work" involving cooking. They asked me if I wanted to work the afternoon shift at the Thrift shop on the eve's this week and next and I said no. I hardly ever say no but I didn't want to and didn't see there being that much business worth staying open to be honest. Went out with the cousins last night - had a good time. Finally caught the cat drinking water out of the tree stand - guess that's why she's been gassy again. My thoughts are already ahead to the new year and I'm ratting around some things that I want to do differently.

Michelle - good that you got moved in and you are settling in nicely with the new crew. Bummer that you had to do it the day before you had to go to work but sometimes that's how things work out. Don't envy you getting up early to catch the train. I have to say that not having to wake up to an alarm anymore is probably the thing I most enjoy about being retired. AND the thing that puts the brakes on about me getting another job when I am toying with the idea. Hope you have a good day.

Hi Ceejay - yes, I think it's going to be very quiet here this week. Is it quiet in your office too?

Happy travels Shad.

Hello to the rest of the Worldies

Guess I'll go make my grocery list. Have a good week people.

Surprise! It's Me Laura typing over your head.

I would think with the proliferation of kids painting sayings and such on their car windows that one could easily get some special paint to decorate. Painting the picture window sounds fun. I just remember they would have spray "snow" in the olden days and while that was pretty, it either flaked off or hardened to cement. I hope they've improved it over the years.

Your pecans sound yummy and I happen to have a bag sitting here so thanks for the idea!

Just wanted to wave hello catch you later.

to Annie and Susie.

Happy - Glad you opted not to work on the holiday eves this week and next - I imagine it would be really slow those days. Lol re the cat drinking out of the tree stand - you might need to cover that with some of that sticky plastic wrap - Press N Seal??

The pecans are sooo delicious, and easy! Whisk together egg white and vanilla in one bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon in another; stir pecans into egg white mixture to coat, then in sugar to coat. Spread on greased cookie sheet, bake an hour in 250 oven, stirring every 15 min. I got my recipe on all recipes dot com.

Re the window painting, the paint the "pros" use has to be better than that spray stuff! We never used that stuff in our house as a kid, and bf and I finally bought some last year to try. Bf did it while I was out of the house and made a royal mess of it...I'd like to try it again myself, and I saw the can and stencil in one of our Christmas bins this weekend.

Oh, forgot to mention I did get the little tree set up, as well as the stockings and lighted garland for the mantel and more above the windows in the 3 season room. (I love looking out there and seeing the lights.) I'm underwhelmed by the little tree this year - not enough lights for me! Wonder if after Christmas would be a good time to shop for a 6-7 food SLIM prelit tree.

Okay, enough rambling, back to work.

Super quick post for me. I'm typing this while I'm on break at the SF job. I like it here. The people are very nice. My new boss will be out of the office this week and next, but she popped in to greet me. The rest of the team members will be getting me up to speed. My boss' boss delivered Christmas gifts to the team and even included me! I thought that was so sweet. In the gift bag was a small apple cinnamon jar candle (one of my fave fragrances), and a small jar of specialty honey with walnuts in it. Should be delish as a spread!!

The commute in was a breeze. I left the house at around 6:30, dropped Santa off at his new day care, and was at the train station by 7:20. The train was much more crowded than I thought it would be, but maybe they were running a shorter train (fewer train cars) due to the holiday week. I'm not sure. I used the train time to read e-mail on my phone. I also nodded off a bit. I arrived in SF at 8:15. The BART station is literally right in front of the building I'm in. NICE!! One of my teammates came down to the lobby to escort me past security. They'll have to do this for a week or two until I get my temporary access badge.

When I met with my boss briefly, she said that once I get building access I can set my hours to whatever suits me as long as I don't come in before 6:30 am and don't leave later than 6 pm. Due to the doggie day care situation, I'll probably end up working either 8-4:30 or 8:30 to 5. If I work until 5, I should be home by 6:30 unless I stop at the gym before picking up Santa.

I like it here. I just wish I could actually get down to working on the website, but I won't have access to most of the files for a couple weeks. *sigh*

Gotta get back to it.

Much love, many hugs and Merry Christmas Eve Eve!

Glad you like the job in SF. How neat that the BART is right in front of the building. Couldn't ask for a better drop off.

Laura
I wish I could eat nuts. I love pecans. Kinda glad that I'm working on New Years Day next week. I can get out my reports and have them ready for the boss.

Happy
Good for you in not volunteering to work Christmas eve. I wish I didn't have to, but I'm hoping it will be calm. I know I'll have several phone calls about billing and trash pick up, but I'll just tell them to call back Thursday on the billing. Oh no, Nina drinking the tree water! I'd definitely put a guard around it of some kind.
I'm with you about switching some things around in my mind on what to do next year, especially for health reasons.

Shad
Safe travels. and enjoy the week.

-------------
I've done a bit of this and that today and time seems to drag on and on. Our department had lunch this morning at 11.15 a.m. It was good. I didn't eat the corn, turkey nor the potato salad. The dressing had to much sage--it was actually green, but good. The sweet potatoes and green beans were good also. And I didn't over eat.
I'm kinda surprised that the light office didn't call me. They usually have a Christmas party!!!

Hi Everyone. I am replying on my Kindle. If you see spelling mistakes or things that don't make sense it is because I am not used to typing on it.

I am off work until Friday. I have 1 1/2 days left of vacation left so I am working half a day from home on Friday.

I worked today in the office and left early to go back to.the doctor. I am better with the cold and upper repository infection I had last week but not where I should be and I have a skin yeast infection in the belly area where my stomach hangs over a bit. I was so embarrassed to go about it because it happened due to my weight and size and not getting the skin good and dry.

My doctor was nice about it but told me it is past time to get some of this weight off. I need to loose about 120 lbs but she said she could bet that 30 to 40 lbs would be good for me. She said I need to focus on my health because I am getting close to 50 and it starts to get harder to turn things around. I know she is right. So ladies I need your support. I will not end 2014 at this weight. 40 lbs is my goal loss for this date 2014. I need a cheering section and I need tough love and held accountable.

The doctor did give me some meds both topical and internal to take for the skin issue.

Sorry not to do personals for everyone. I read 3 pages and got caught up on everyone.

Michelle thanks for the Christmas card. I hope the best job situation works out well for you. I have a question if you d o my mind. Who is D?

Glad you are getting well. Thought you had skipped out. I really like my Surface 10 inch tablet. Believe me the doctor is right about the weight.

Happy
I enjoy the pictures you put up on FB.

I have already had one call about garbage pick up. There will not be any until Thursday. And I'm sure that there will be more. I'm thinking about doing only the office part of this job today and tomorrow.
Made brownies last night and they smelled so good. I did try one after they cooled down and brought some to work today to give to a co-worker.

Good morning everyone.

Merry Christmas Eve except for Shad where it might already be close to Christmas Day itself.

Got a lot done yesterday, a few more things to do today and then I intend to spend the evening relaxing, watching the pretty tree or maybe watching a sappy movie with DH. We have a nice dinner planned. I just have to sharpen up the chef's knife and take another look on how to carve up and prep that beef tenderloin. We are supposed to get more snow today - up to 3 inches and it's the soft, dry, twinkly snow I like. However because it's so cold here right now, the salt and solutions they use on the roads are not effective so the roads are kind of slippery. DH has to go out and get more deer corn today but that's about the only trip out we have planned. I went to the grocery store yesterday - it was a pain. I imagine today is worse. I am actually looking forward to a quiet night home with the hubby. We haven't had too many Christmas' with just the two of us in our long run together and somehow I think he's been cheated for it. So I will lavish him with attention. Me and the cats

Annie - sounds like you are feeling a bit better. So happy to hear it. Enjoy your family and cook up a storm woman.

Shad - hope you are enjoying your family too. I know this isn't your most favorite time of year but at least this one you get to see more friends and family than usual.

Michelle - good to hear the first day on the job worked out well. Boy did you luck out with the location of the office in terms of the train station. Score! That will come in handy for sure! That was very nice that they including you in the gift bags too. Hope you have a nice Christmas in your new digs with your new roomies

Susie - glad I could tell you something you could maybe use or think about. I'm sorry about the skin issue. I am with you about refocusing for the new year ahead and totally willing to swap support and the tough love. They took some pictures at Humane Society events and I just hated to look at them. I have a big milestone birthday in April that I am not really looking forward to and will be off the mark on some goals I made last year in preparation for it. So enjoy this next week, after that we are kicking butt woman!

Ceejay - green dressing? Only if it's Green Goddess salad dressing I'm glad you had a nice luncheon at work. Sometimes it's the only time of year when people set aside the usual politics and sniping. Thank you about the pictures - this last set came out really good I think. I hope you don't get too many crazy calls at work - people always get confused about trash pick up on holiday weeks. Merry Christmas

Laura - thank you for the spiced nuts recipe. I am going to make a batch - they are so easy and I have some leftover cinnamon sugar to use. That's a great idea to try out the painting on the 3 season room windows first. I know the home improvement stores are having 50 percent off sales on decorations now - don't know if they will go even cheaper on the weekend. Guess you should look at the newspaper advertisements. Just be careful with the pre-lit trees. A lot of people were complaining that they worked for a year or two and then petered out. No way to fix the lights once they stop working so they had to toss out the whole thing. We have an annual raffle / auction of trees up here mid December. Whomever donates a fully decorated tree can designate the charity of their choice that receives the proceeds for their tree. Many ladies head to Hobby Lobby and such after Christmas to pick up their tree for the following year. Makes sense. You can probably beautifully decorate a big tree for less than 50 bucks. Anyway enjoy your lights and little tree

Merry Christmas Mel. I'm sure it's all a glow where you are now. Missing you a lot.

And with that I will wish you all a Merry Christmas and go get busy myself.

oh... before I forget - Laura - here's the stuff I was trying so hard to remember that I said people would decorate their windows with. I thought it was Bon Ami brand.

My Mel Moment for the day.

Shad posted this September 30, 2005 after she looked at Mel's signature: Whhhhhhaaaaaaaatt is that on your weight tracker. Oh lord not Christmas already???? Mel always tried to sneak those things in under Shad's nose.

And I just happened to see this also and thought it was nice. For a while there Mel was getting Ralph Marston daily affirmations in her email and occasionally she would share them with us.

Funny how ralphie Boy sent this this morning....I shared Ralph with Jen about an hour ago and decided to share him with you too. I just re-read it while drinking a coffee.......hope you have time for him too to all of us because we are survivors!!! Jen left with a smile and I have one too.

THE DAILY MOTIVATOR

Look up
+++++++++++++++++++

Look up from what you're doing and look around for a minute.
See what a beautiful world you're in.

Take your mind off the problems for a moment, and focus on
the positive possibilities. Consider how very much you are
able to do.

Turn your attention for a while away from the worries and
anxieties. Remind yourself of all your many blessings.

The direction of your focus is the direction your life will
move. Let yourself move toward what is good, valuable,
strong and true.

The things that fill your awareness are the things that will
fill your life and your world. So expand your awareness
beyond your own concerns and toward the best of what can be.

Look up and look confidently toward the highest vision you
can imagine. The moment you do, you're on your way there.

Ralph Marston

Merry Christmas to all

Merry Christmas Eve ladies (and Merry Christmas Day, Shad)!

I'm on a quick break at work. I'm working a full day today and then going over to D's father's place for Christmas Eve dinner, which D is cooking. (Susie, D is my boyfriend who I just moved in with.) D is also cooking Christmas Day dinner at his father's place, but I am going over to my step-mom's on Christmas day to open gifts and have dinner there.

I don't have much time for personals since I'm at work...but I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

But I definitely am willing and wanting to kick butt and get serious about meeting some weight loss goals in 2014, so I'm right there with you Susie and Happy.

Sending much love and many hugs to all,
