I'm feeling better today.

Michelle
So sad to hear about Doppler. I know he had good care even after you left.

Happy
Enjoy your atv ride. This time of the year is hard on young plants. My sister has several containers that she has planted. I may do the same.

Shad
I know your mouth has had to be sore but glad it's healing. And the biopsy sight as well. More purging for me too.

Annie
You are still a busy little beaver. You make me tired just reading about things you do.

Mel
Hope you don't have to go to the office at all. Just stay at home and relax.

Laura
Yum, the roast beef sounds good. Now that I'm feeling better think I'll do some cooking this week end.

-------
I've made a big decision this past week end. I will be moving to live with my sister when I retire. At first I'll be in Branson then she wants to buy a duplex in Nixa, MO, where her son lives for when she completely retires. She and bil will live in one side me the other side. She's suggested that I put my stuff in storage until then. She's been thinking on this matter too.
This is where I need to be.
You can read about my week end in my blog.
It feels good to have this much time off, 11 days, to be exact. The life of Riley. But Thursday I'm putting a do not disturb sign on the door.

Morning all.

Happy - So sorry your plants got zapped by the frost. Loved the story re your mom's sweet tooth! Gosh, wouldn't have expected a wildfire in your area with all that snow! The roast we bought was a top sirloin roast from the butcher. We had an ATK recipe in which it you butterfly it and spread an herb/oil/mustard mixture in the center, tie it off, let it sit for 1-24 hours before baking, and then spread on an herb/butter mix just before serving. Yum. Hope you have a good ATV ride IF the air quality permits.

Ceejay - Glad you got home safely. Hope the back pain eases up and the virus symptoms too! One more day off for you?

Michelle - Yeh, I'm sure all the changes in the house stressed Doppler out and there probably wasn't much the ex could do about it. A sad thing for both of you, no doubt you both love your pooches.

Shad - Okay, along with Annie's usual whirlwind of activity, your cleaning rampage has made me feel guilty for being such a sloth about finishing up the last of the office project. We still have bins in the front bedroom that need to be dealt with. And then there's everything else... I need to get out of the habit of turning into a couch potato after work!!! So much time wasted sitting in front of the b00b tube. Yeh, I agree that paying more for meat from the butcher is likely worth it. Even though I'm watching a lot of America's Test Kitchen and they frequently show a beef diagram and explain the different cuts, etc., I still have problems going into a typical supermarket and finding something - I usually end up seeing something labelled with a name I've never heard of and wondering what it really is. Much easier to just tell the butcher what I need.

Mel - Yay for the quiet night, and I'm glad you can rest a bit today. The cheese-filled pretzels are just like any other junk food - tasty as heck in spite of all the bad stuff they put in them.

Annie - Mmmm, popcorn for breakky sounds great to me! We never eat microwave popcorn anymore, just make it the old fashioned way in a pot with butter and oil. I have, however, started to buy bags of pre-made popcorn to smuggle into the movie theater with me. Healthier than the stuff sold by the theater. Thanks for the update on D. Abbey!! I'll have to mark my calendar. Enjoy your long lunch today!

===
So I didn't rush back here with my weigh-in results yesterday because I had a 2.2 lb. gain - all of what I'd lost last week. Bleh. I will take responsibility for my big eating day on Monday causing part of the gain, but it's also "that time of the month" AND I wore heavier slacks than usual AND I forgot to take off my sweater when I stepped on the scale, darn it! Better luck next week.

The boss is off on her 3-week vacation, so I'm happy for the quiet that will bring. Actually, it's been quiet more and more and did I mention that the boss's hearing has been gradually getting worse and now it's very noticeable? Talking with her has become somewhat difficult, and I'd been fretting about why things seem so different with her. I'd chalked it up to her moving into retirement mode and also worried she was unhappy with me and the admin, but once the admin and I had a chat, we finally realized that the hearing loss has changed how the boss interacts with us (i.e., much less). Admin passed along that one of our vendors that's friendly with both the boss and the admin told the admin that the boss refuses to get a hearing aid...

Didn't do anything special last night. Enjoyed sitting in the 3-season room for a bit. Looked at some cell phone cases online. Watched some tv.

Tonight I'll go to the 4G exercise class. The instructor is usually a toughie, but I'm getting used to that lately.

Everyone have a great day!!

Morning all,
Crikey Happy - snow, sleet, rain, frost, floods and now fires. Your weather is nearly as weird as what we have had here over the past couple of years.
DS2 and G/F are both handy. She's a lawyer who can garden and paint, assist with concrete and plastering. He's an electrician who can tile, plumb, paint, build (mostly - his measurements are sometimes off) fix machinery, lay concrete and do plaster work and weld. Saves them a heap of money. When they run out of ideas, I get carted off to give advice!!!! and lend a hand. So he also has a Mum who can paint, tile, build walls, garden, plaster, concrete and carry out limited plumbing. I don't touch the electrics. Not to mention that I make the best bacon and egg pie in the universe (DS2s opinion not mine). DS2's idea is that you get the best expert in the field to do the job for the first house. You watch, listen, ask questions and learn. Second time you do it yourself and forever after.

Mel - lets face it, just getting out of bed in the morning at our age can be somewhat exciting. Can't wait for the time when I need further assistance NOT. Don't work too hard, and have fun filling the box.

Annie - hadn't heard about the Disney line up rort. Is there a Disney world close to Mel?? Where do we have to shift her to in order for her to earn $1K per day? We could buy one for Jen as well and she can get accustomed to the big money.

Annie - you should be able to start later if you have to work late. It seems you won't get paid overtime for this. I'd come over and denude your closets but getting them back here would be a bit of a nightmare.

Michelle - sorry about Doppler. Poor wee guy just couldn't keep up with his ailments any longer. He is at peace now.

Ceejay - hope you have a good day and can rest up for a while.

Laura - How did the weigh in go. Isn't it a pain that we get these urges right before weigh in time.

Okay - I need to rush out to the shop and get a few things for lunch with my friend Chris who is probably going to be stressed to the max because she has been called back for consultation after a mammogram. And because of her work situation. My niece is also coming to lunch with her beautiful daughters while she picks what she wants to take away with her. I'd better pick up some boxes for her to put stuff in too. Breakfast and sweeping will have to wait till I get back.
So I will be checking up on you lot later.

Hello ladies,

Over 10,000 acres burned up here but they have the fire under control - for the moment at least. Another 6,000 burned elsewhere. That's a lot of forest to lose Although they do a good job of land management, trimming trees and thinning things in the woods. We are still in danger though - today there was a warning of very low humidity (20 percent) and gusty winds which increase the fire danger. I was wondering why it's so darn dry here when we have all these trees - while the deciduous ones are just budding now, we still have well over 50 percent pine trees up this way which feel like they might be giving some moisture off. As well as 10,000 lakes too. You are never more than a few miles from a lake no matter what direction you head into. So I looked it up. Apparently there are 5 main air currents that circulate the earth and make all our weather. The polar current is north and that's what gives us those frigid temps we blame our Canadian friends on. The tropical currents come from the south and are very wet, moist and hot. And then there are the Continental currents which drop all of their moisture over the mountains and by the time it travels east our way it's like a sponge squeezed of all it's water. There are 2 more currents which are a combinate of the other 3. We mostly get the Continental currents up this way which is why our air is so dry. In the winter we get a combo of the Polar current and Continental - both dry. Our only hope for moisture is when the jet stream dips south and pulls some tropical moisture up our way. We had a few clouds pass by overhead but the air is so dry now that the moisture got absorbed before it even fell to the ground. I admit moving here I never thought of wildfires - I fancied that to be a west coast California thing. Not sure what's worse - wildfires or tornadoes/cyclones - neither of which you can outrun.

We took a nice 3 hour ride on the ATV. Now I understand why you need to bring a chainsaw with you. Trees fall on the trails. Sometimes you can get around them, sometimes you just have to cut them out of your path Life is sure different out here. We were able to go around the one that was blocking the road today.

Shad - there are 2 Disneys - Disneyland (the original) in southern California and Disneyworld in Florida. I'm sure there are amusement parks nearer to Mel where she can become an "escort" should she so desire. Mel's Escort Service It is not only wonderful but also a very VERY good thing that DS and GF are handy like Mum. DH is very handy - with electricals too - and we have been very fortunate. I know many women whose hubbies are dear ones but are all thumbs when it comes to the tools. They either learn to do it themselves or are subject to the occasional repairman if things are not left to fall apart on their own. So it will never be lost to be handy around the house. I had to smile at you comment about DS's measurements off a bit sometimes - a picture of the Leaning Tower of Pisa came to mind I like his philosophy of hiring well for the first job with a side lesson thrown in You raised a smart one there. Have fun with the friends and family today.

Ceejay - I think a duplex is a FABULOUS idea. This way you can each have your own space - which is really important, yet you are close enough for a knock on the wall. As long as the area/weather/cost of living suits you up that way. I would imagine not a whole lot different than what you have now save for perhaps a better view than cotton fields.

Laura - I have some cheese filled pretzels in the freezer - I think I'll let them sit there a bit longer! Actually I picked up some hummus and was looking for something to go with them. I didn't realize that pretzels have so much sodium in them. Ridiculous - but I'll bet part of that is the salt covering they have on them - hard to scrape it off the packaged pretzels tho. That's a bummer with the boss retreating due to the hearing problems. I can relate a bit - it got to the point that when 6 of us would go to a restaurant, I could not hear anyone other than the person sitting directly next to me - even had problems with people sitting across from me. I finally went to get my hearing tested - it's fine for my age. The doc was very kind and said that as we age we lose the ability to filter out background noise so a place like Chili's or TGI Friday's becomes out of the question. He said even he has had to go to more quiet places - a big bonus for the wife because quiet places are more romantic But it got to the point I was so self conscious of not being able to hear with a lot of conversations going on that I too would start to make my excuses and bow out. But the social game is a bit different from the work game. Was retirement her idea or is she being nudged out?

Anyway I started this hours ago. Let me post it before I lose it. Hellos to Annie, Mel and Michelle.

Ok back...

Good Giggly Wiggly people, read the directions on how to set up your new VM. Really, that is why I emailed them to you twice this week, just in case you missed it the first time. Sheesh.

Sissy and lil man are coming up for lunch today. We are also going to Cosmo Prof (beauty supply house) to get goodies. She is also going to take me by Ainsley's school so I will know where it is as I have to take her to school one day next week.

We had some h*llaish thunder storms last night. It was so loud, it woke me up out of a dead sleep. I guess Texas got hit with tornados and it destroyed a huge area. Sad.

SHADDIE...oh do send me your recipe for bacon and egg pie. C would just love it. With all the talents in your family, you all should start your own business.

MELLIE...so exciting the check is on it's way for the new tires. Yahoooo!! Hope your day is peaceful today! When I read your "jolly crap" it struck me funny and about spit out my coffee. Big fees on Disney, only prob, I wonder if you actually have to go on the ride also? Yikes.

HAPPY.... a chain saw on your journeys. hmmmm. Maybe I should carry one with me on my route to and from work. Jump out of the car and saw every idiot up. Indiana Chain Saw strikes again. lol. What a great break down on the weather system, I am convinced you could now do the weather on local TV better than some of the forecasters. Boo on the wild fires, they are so scary. The only difference between tornados and wild fires, tornados do destruct but it is over quickly, it sometimes takes weeks to put out the wild fires and so much more is destroyed. It is all scary to me.

LAURA...you will kick arse next week on WI. I think sometimes a gain motivates us into doing better. How was the 4G class last night? Good God Gertie Gag me class..lol Nice the boss is on a 3 week vacation, I always call that an in-house vacation for me.

CEEG....so glad you are feeling better. You are getting so much better for standing up for yourself. I am proud of you sister. Going back to work and getting back into the swing of things will be hard at first.

CHELLE...how is the job coming along. Any news on the interview?

That is about it for me....I have goofed of enough for one morning...maybe this afternoon I will goof off some more...haha

Have a terrific Thursday.

Loves and hugs

Morning
Had a good night sleep. Stomach feels empty this morning and ready for some solid food and nothing spicy. I've had liquids since Monday. I did take a couple of Zantac last night which really helped.
Due to my stomach virus I've had a good weigh in this week with a 1.8 pound loss.

--------
Mel
Your graphics have been so cute this week. And the do not disturb sign is on the door and staying there till I get out and about. Then I'm telling them NO.

Laura
I'm sure you will have a good weigh in next week. You've been doing really well.

Happy
Yes, I think moving near my sister is my best choice for me. Moving in with my friend would not be ideal. She expects to much from me and I'm not able to do those things for her.
That was a long ATV ride, but glad you enjoyed it. I would not have thought about the fallen tree's to be an obstacle but in those deep woods it's always a possibility.

Annie
Glad you didn't have to stay to long for the people to set up the new phone system.

Michelle
Are you still working at Cisco?

CEEG...glad you had a good sleep last night, amazing what a little zannie will do for you. Yes if you have been on liquids since Monday, probably something easy on the tummy would be best. Living with you Sis has to be better than any friend, imo. Have a great day today!

Howdy peeps,

One last sunny day - rain is moving in for the next week so it will be gray and cloudy. It only got as low as 46 last night but it sure did feel chilly when the sun set and night moved in. Yes, I know for some of you 46 is coat and boots weather Plants should be ok. I should get some extra potting soil today and at least plant my flowers. They will be ok on the deck, we look to be past the freezing point and if needed, I can plastic tarp the flowers if it's going to be that cool. Got to set something out for the arrival of the butterflies and hummingbirds. We already saw a few butterflies in the forest yesterday.

I got this new plant - called a Candy Corn Plant or Brazillian Fire Cracker
It's a trailing vine. Didn't realize until I looked it up to post a picture - that it's actually a house plant. Does not like temperatures that drop below 50 degrees - figures if it's a Brazilian plant. The flowers do attract hummingbirds. Now I'm torn - keep it inside? or if I plant it in a pot outside I will have to figure out some way of trellising it so that I can bring it back indoors in the fall. I just figured it was an annual plant and would only have one season. I do have the perfect spot to grow it in the house.

Ceejay - I read your post quickly and thought you said you were feeling better and going to eat some spicy food - argghhhh nOOOOOOOOO. Then I re-read it - Yep, I would give a lot of thought to who I choose to settle down with - after all, moving is no fun, only want to do it a minimum of times. And a friend could be a good companion but you don't need someone always expecting a lot from you - unless of course you will miss your neighbors always bugging you

Annie - READ THE VM manual. OMG - one of the most frustrating things is when they change out the phone switch and the voice mail system. No matter what they do, aside from sitting next to the person at the desk for the next 5 days, people just don't get it. While we are struggling (and learning it by reading the manual) I often think of the execs who would not even think to figure it out. But that's why they have people like you to do it for them, right? I think you should record you voice mail as I would have so much fun with that Love the idea of chain sawing idiots on the road but the police probably would put a stop to that! Best idea ever was a comedienne long ago who was talking about traffic in California. Said that everyone would be armed with a dart gun with little flags on the dart that said IDIOT. As you're driving when you'd see cars that were doing stupid stuff, you shoot a dart on their back window. Cops can patrol and anyone with 3 darts automatically gets arrested I saw the big storms in Dallas last night - looked like you were getting weather your way too. Better overnight than driving in it I suppose...

Mel is getting some new wheels? Let's "pimp out" your chair. Nice carry basket for the box of tissues you need to carry for all the seniors that cry you a river with their whining complaints, a pointer for whacking the desk to make sure people pay attention when you are trying to re-establish order, and earmuff/earplugs when you've just had enough of their b.s. I caught the "jolly crap" reference too We have the chicken kievs also as a quick fix it dinner - sometimes they can be rather greasy - I either let it run off the side of the plate or run into a rice daamm to absorb it.

Hello Laura, Shad and Michelle.

Guess I better get dressed and get DH to unhook the trailer from the SUV so we can get some compost and potting soil before it gets too late. Have a good day chicks.

Morning all.

Ceejay - Glad you're feeling better. Ah, 11 days off, sounds heavenly! Great idea re the duplex. My friend D is considering that with her sis. Hope the neighbors take heed of the do not disturb sign so you can enjoy the rest of your vacay. What do you think you'll cook this weekend??

Shad - Yum, bacon and egg pie - sounds sort of like a quiche? Great to have so many handy people around. Bf is pretty handy, including electric, plumbing, flooring, so I'm lucky. Hope Chris's mammo follow-up comes out clean.

Happy - That's a lot of burnt land. Scary. Very interesting that it's so dry up there - c'mon down here for the hot & humid, we sure get our share and then some during the summer. Yeh, pretzels have a lot of sodium on their own, let alone the filling in the ones I had the other day. I don't hear well in noisy environments either. Bleh. And with my new phone, my podcasts don't seem to download with the same volume as with the old one. I'll have to check the settings to make sure I've got the max level available. Very often it's impossible to hear them at all when I'm on the street thanks to the trucks, buses, el train, jackhammer, etc.

Mel - Yay, new tires will be coming and keep you rolling along, just like Old Man River, lol. Oh gosh, those chicken kiev - used to eat those as a kid, though I really didn't like them after one spurted the "butter" at me when I pierced it with my fork - guess I was traumatized, hahaha. Bf would get them every once in a while, but I stay away. There's enough other junky food out there to eat. It's astounding what's in the supermarket. It really is best to try and stay in the perimeter of the store where all the fresh foods are. Yes, will def. shave my legs for next Tuesday's weigh-in!!!

Annie - Hope everyone gets their vm figured out without too much of your assistance - read your email, idiots!! Enjoy your lunch w/ Sis & li'l guy. No 4G class last night, good ol' Metra screwed up that plan.

===
So I already was taking the slightly later train home because I lost track of time at work, but then the trains were having switching problems on the tracks, so all the trains were delayed. The station was pure chaos, and on top of it, some poor guy had a seizure on the platform. I eventually got on my usual 5:33, which ended up leaving at around 6:30 or so. And though it's an express, it still took a bit longer because everything was backed up. I got home around 7:10. Sigh.

No exercise class. We waited for the guy who was buying my old iPhone to arrive, and after that we went out to eat some dinner. Would you believe the iPhone I used for over 2.5 years sold for $200???!!! Crazy, but it paid for the new phone, so yay for me (and bf - he sold his for that too).

Tonight is movie night and we're seeing Iron Man 3. Should be entertaining.

Okay, work awaits. TTFN!

It has finally clouded up here again, looks like more rain is on it's way. As a matter of fact we are to have about 7 days of scattered showers and storms...of course it it INDY 500 time. Hello you have reaced the VM box of a HO please leave a message at the tone...ba hahaha

LAURA...wow you got home late with all the train mayheim. bleh. Lunch was fabulous with my kiddos. Lil man brought me my first picked flower. A dandelion. haha. I will have to press it and keep it. We went to Red Robin, I am not impressed with their food but my salad was pretty good. Have fun at the movies tonight, Sis is wanting to see IM3 also.

HAPPY - My ex and I were able to successfully grow the candy corn plant from June to September in pots on our patio, then we brought it in for the winter. Granted it gets colder at night where you are. So sad about all the acres destroyed by fires. We had some small brush fires early in the week. Next to the freeway near my work. Everything is so dry here from May through October that it's a tinder box.

ANNIE - Love the HO voicemail. "A. HO" Glad you had a nice lunch with the family.

LAURA - Have fun at the movies tonight.

MEL - I hope your new chair arrives soon. And that you get your new wheels for this chair soon. I agree with Happy that we should totally pimp your ride.

CEEJAY - Glad to hear your tummy is doing better. I hate stomach viruses.

SHAD - I'm saying prayers for Chris' consultation.

I'm going on a dinner date tonight with a guy I used to date before I met my ex. It will have to be a fairly quick dinner as I have to pick up Santa from day care by 7. When this guy and I saw each other at Christmas and then when he came to WI for a visit in Feb, I thought things were going well. Now that I live here, things seem to have cooled off for both of us. I haven't seen him since the day after I arrived in CA...and we've only talked a few times. Not sure why...hopefully I get some questions answered tonight. I'm not ready to jump into a relationship...but it would be nice to talk more than a couple times a week. Oh well, I'm not stressing over it. If he is pulling away, I totally understand...I might be moving away again if I get the job in So. Cal.

Tomorrow is work from home day! Yay!! I'm trying to get Santa a grooming appointment for Saturday. I found a couple dog play groups on Meetup.com, so on Sunday morning, we are either going for a short hike along a creek with other Schnauzers or a short hike in the mountains with other dogs of all breeds! Sunday afternoon/evening, I'm going up to a friend's house in Berkeley (essentially just across the bay from San Francisco - about an hour's drive from my step-mom's). She's invited a couple mutual friends that I haven't seen in roughly 9 or 10 years over for a potluck. It should be a nice gathering. And she said to bring Santa along too...so I don't have to worry about asking for someone to watch him.

My step-mom offered to watch Santa today so that I could save some money, but I just worry that she won't watch him as carefully as I do and he could get into something of hers that he shouldn't. I brought him from WI, and he's my responsibility to look after. Plus, it's a blessing how tired he is when he gets home from day care. He's a total snuggle bug and sleeps so well.

Gotta get back to it.

Much love and many hugs,

Morning Chicklettes

The meetings flew by last night.
Seemed like no one wanted to be there.
That was OK by me
The town Manager confirmed that the check was in the mail.
And hoped the tires would come soon.
Nothing else new here. I could use an alarm free weekend
Have a great day everyone.
