Steel Magnolias #29

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS :comp:

We went out to eat at our favorite Mexican place and I know how to count the points there. It is a beautiful day here in the ♥-land and I am enjoying it so much for it is verging on 80ºs. We have been out and about and stopped at the office supply store and I now have all my printer ink colors refreshed. I was also very happy to get some liquid red ink to refresh my little self inking “lips” stamp. I like to use it when I show a loss at WW in my “weight record booklet.” This week we are supposed to track our after 7pm munchies on a paper and turn it in next meeting. Since I am not much of a evening muncher there won’t be many entries on my munching list. :cp: I will type up a card for the entries that I may have to make.

I had ordered some refrigerator glass containers with lids awhile back to keep milk and other drinks in. Glass keeps liquids much colder than plastic cartons do. I had gotten my order and the half gallon container didn’t have it’s lid. I called the company and they mailed me one and it arrived today. I now have milk in glass containers. I bought 2 quart containers and 1 half gallon one. They all fit quite nicely on the fridge door shelf.

It is just about 3:30pm and I don’t have a clue yet of what I am going to make for dinner. Will has a check up with the doc at 5 so we will be having dinner after that. I need to make a decision and get something out to thaw. I guess I can get out a couple pork chops out to thaw and make some rice and cut up some fruit. I have some apples, oranges, bananas, and a pineapple. I just asked Will and he said, “Oh yes.”

DONNA FAYE Aches are the pits. Hopefully you feel much better by now. I think something is definitely worng with your bread machine if it does that to the dough. My little bread machine also makes jam and other things. :D Just think your next cruise will be here and before you know it you will be packing again.

JEAN You are going to love your house when you get it all back together with all you have had done to it. Are you doing the after 7pm snack thingie at your WW?

Have a great day Magnolias.

gma22 10-17-2012 07:43 AM

Good morning to you all. We are expecting whopper thunderstorms starting this afternoon but sunny skies until then. Fortune will have to empty his bladder right before the storms start I guess.

I am boxing up the souvenir stuff and Jay's bday presents today so I can mail them tomorrow. It is nice because if I send them priority, I can make the labels and such at home then just drop it off at the post office in their parcel mailbox. It's too bad it isn't outdoors though as you have to get in and out of your car and such, but you can't have everything I guess. :)

I have kitchen cleaning today and am going to make chili and corn bread for dinner tonight. I bought chili fixin's and potato soup fixin's when they said it was going to be cold and now it isn't but I still need to fix the soups. We haven't had chili since last fall/winter and it sounds good. Jack doesn't eat beans in his chili so I make it without then I add kidney beans to my soup. It gives me a nice bounce of fiber for one thing. I changed from buying gr sirloin to gr round as the sirloin had so little fat it was hard to use in dishes where you wanted crumbled burger likes soups and such. It doesn't up points over the long run either.

I am coming along on the current pr of socks. I am knitting the foot so they should go pretty quickly. I need to get Jack to help me ball my hanks skeins tonight though so I can contine when I need them. I got my yarn yesterday and I think I may have enough leftover from Jack's cruise sock heel and toes to put on my socks. The yarn has aloe in it so should be nice and soft on the tootsies.

Maggie: I really like Pampered Chef products and have quite a lot of it. One of the things I bought years ago was this tube style measuring cup. It has a plastic inner liner cup, then has a tube that slides over it with the colored measurements on each side. We use it constantly. I noticed a week ago the tube part had a crack down the side, but since the cup part was ok I thought what the heck. Good thing I bought a new measuring cup this last weekend (which was plastic and cost me nearly $9 btw!) as yesterday morning, Jack was going to measure out the milk for his cereal and the whole bottom of the inner cup just fell off! Nothing lasts forever! :D I think the whole idea of your munchies list is to show guys/gals what they are eating later in the evening. Like you I am not a late muncher, but that is because I go to bed early. Jack and I usually have a WW ice cream for dessert after dinner, then around 5-6 have a diet soda with a package of cheese crackers or in my case pbutter crackers. I don't ever eat fruit at night.

Jean: The design does and doesn't on some socks. Like Jay's pair I had to match where I left off with the new yarn so the pattern would continue without a big expanse of gray or whatever, but you usually don't waste a whole lot of yarn when you do that. This pair I am knitting now is all over the place because the leg and upper foot has a pattern and the heel and foot is straight stockinette. So I have blobs of colors in some places and almost a striping in others, but since it isn't a self striping yarn, but just a multiple colored yarn, that is what you are going to get. How is the afghan coming along? Did I tell you I met a lady on the ship who showed me her pinky finger and it was permanently in a bent position. She told me she was going into the hospital to have it straightened when they got off the cruise and it was caused by the fact she wrapped her yarn for crocheting around her pinky and bent it to keep it in place. Her finger was bent completely into her palm! I do that for knitting, but also thread it through my fingers so the pinky wouldn't have as much stress on it I don't think.

Well chores await as does the sock. Have a good middle of the week all! Faye

WONDERFUL WINDY WEDNESDAy

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS :comp:

It is currently 64ºs here in the ♥-Land and not expected to get any higher than a couple more or so degrees. We are under a “wind advisory” and it is blowing big time. Makes me want to sneeze more than usual. My shower this morning felt so good for I could hear the wind outside the bathroom window and my water came down nice and easy in the shower. :D

In spite of the wind Will BBQed the burgers for lunch and they were so good. All I have to count point wise is the burger and the bun because I don’t use any sauce on them but I pile on the veggies. When I slice a tomato for our burgers I chop up the rest of the tomato and eat it along will my pickles and hot peppers. Anyway I much prefer home grilled burgers than any we get eating out.

Oh how I would like the wind to stop for it makes me sneeze and my eyes itch. On days like this I can tell this house isn’t real tight for it lets little particles come in and get to me.

Lo and behold Will has announced he is getting “serious” about losing weight. He knows that I haven’t felt deprived while I have lost weight and he said he should be able to cut back and do the same. It has finally dawned on him that if he eats the same things ~ but not as much ~ surely he could lose weight. I told him I will not tell him what to eat and will stay out of his program ~ he stays out of mine and I can do the same for him. He asked me to make him a “weigh in” card so I can do that for he plans on starting his program on the coming Monday. I will gladly do what I can to help him when he asks.

DONNA FAYE Isn't "Pampered Chef" one of those party type things where you buy products? I think I have only been to one of those partys and still have a great pizza stone that I use in the oven for other things besides pizza. :D As I recall they have great products. I bet it feels great to get those items all ready and ready to mail. For my after dinner treat last evening I drank a bottle Perrier water for a grand total of 0p+. :p There aren't going to be many "food" entries on my card when I turn it in at the Monday meeting. ;) chili and corn bread sound yummy.

Have a great afternoon/evening Magnolias.

Jean 10-17-2012 04:29 PM

Good Afternoon, Flowers! The wind is blowing hard and the leaves are swirling around; there won't be many left on the trees, if any. This morning I went to get my nails done and ended up having 8 of them redone as my own had grown out enough. He used the same goop as when I have the acrylics so hope they don't break. Then I went to WM for cat food; the dry food I feed Ernie's little brother is almost $3 cheaper there. A friend called and wanted to know if I needed more birthday cards for church. Her neighbor's dad is an auctioneer and bought several huge boxes of Hallmark cards at a sale. She tried to sell them at a garage sale and no one bought them. I wouldn't even guess how many boxes she has, but I bought 40 at 25 cents each. I have bell practice later this afternoon, need to clear off the kitchen counters before I go, and hang some pictures back on the walls.

Maggie -- I'm usually not an evening muncher and try not to be a drinker either. WW is tomorrow so I will know if tracking the snacks is going on here. It probably is. Not too long ago I saw on tv a tip about keeping liquids in the refrigerator door. They said the door isn't cold enough for milk :dunno: but other liquids would be ok if one didn't want them as cold. I only buy 1/2 gallons and keep it on a shelf inside. I do keep juice in the door though. I don't drink milk so have no clue if it is really cold, and Bob never says anything.

"Gma" -- Are you working on your own socks now, or Christmas gifts? I have a lot of PC things because Beth used to sell it. In fact she's given me a few things I've never used. :o Some of it is more trouble to put together, and wash the parts than it's worth to me. My favorite things are the can opener and the vegetable peeler. What time do you eat dinner? I feel for the lady with the bent pinkie finger. Ouch!

Susan -- What are you up to these days? I hope you are just busy and everything is status quo in your world. :twirly:

I need to get busy in the kitchen! Enjoy the rest of your day and evening!

gma22 10-18-2012 10:15 AM

Good morning to you all. We too had the wind yesterday for a couple hours but then we had bad storms last night one after another. We were in a tornado warning for awhile, but they were really northwest of us more like out by the Navy base. Fortune didn't sleep well last night. I put him in his Thunder Shirt, but he still would go and get on the steps and sleep there for awhile then come down and get in my lap downstairs and back and forth all night.

I am 6 rows from being at the toe decreases for this first sock. The colors are wild and bright and cheerful for sure and it has been a fun knit. The only bad thing about socks is there are two of them! You feel all accomplished and realize you are only halfway done. There is a procedure where you can knit them both at the same time using two circular needles, but I never caught on to it and don't really like magic loop which is knitting with circular needles to make socks so I just use my handy dandy double points, which before I learned to do socks thought I would never be able to ever use.

When Jack gets home this afternoon, I will run the box for the kids over to the post office. Jack is fixing flank steak for dinner tonight and I may fix some scalloped potatoes to go with instead of a baked potato. I am going to fix some asparagus I think too.

Maggie: Yes, Pampered Chef is a direct sale company like Tupperware. I have bought stuff when a friend or family member has a party. I have baking stones and like them a lot. I also have their stone bread pans and I really like them, though I don't make bread much anymore. I am more into their gadgets like lemon zester, melon ballers, stuff like that and I have their set of measuring spoons and dry measuring cups too and like them a lot. Jack has lost about 8 lbs or so since coming home from vacation. One of the things that helps Jack though is he can't sit around and snack working. He eats a bowl of cereal for breakfast, takes a sandwich or a lean cuisine for lunch, then has whatever I make for dinner. He eats an ice cream treat most nights and around 5:30 or 6 has a package of crackers and cheese and a diet soda. He has a very strong will power and only gives in when I want to eat out or something. It is sure is the older we get, the harder extra weight makes it for us.

Jean: Since Jack leaves so early for work and eats at 5 am, then has early lunch around 11, he is hungry when he gets home so we eat really early 3:30-4 pm most of the time. Wow, what a deal on cards! I watch a program that is on at 7 AM I think on Tue or Wed on HGTV called Cash and Cari and she sets up estate sales and such. Interesting to see what people will sell when they want to empty out their home or whatnot. The socks I am working on now are for Kelly, whose birthday is next month, then I have two pairs to make by Dec 1 for the boys for Christmas. We are doing Thanksgiving and Christmas the first weekend in Dec as Jay is coming down here with his family for the St Jude's Marathon so I have to have them done earlier. If I can get her other sock done in the next week and get the hanks rolled, I can start on Jacksons socks, which are smaller so will go faster. Thomas wears a men's size 8 now so they will take a bit longer.

Well gals, today is dusting day and sprucing up the upstairs so I better get to it. I was up so much with Fortune and the storm last night that I slept in so am a bit behind. Have a nice Thursday today. Faye

Jean 10-18-2012 03:04 PM

Good Afternoon, Flowers! It's windy and pouring rain -- another crappy weather day in my corner of the world. We need the rain but I could do without the wind. I went to WW this morning and it wasn't pretty although the same as last time. I wore jeans and a sweatshirt because that's what I had on. Because of the weather, I'm assuming, not many were there -- lots of parking spots to choose from. http://forums.delphiforums.com/dir-icon/0/2/tongue.icon

Maggie -- We both posted within a couple minutes of each other yesterday. You were faster than I was! ;) Yes, we are doing the evening snack attack here too. I won't have much to hand in next week either. It's nice of you to share your wind with us -- the advisory just came on the tv. Will you have to alter your menu plan at all if Will is on the weight losing bandwagon with you?

"Gma" -- The weatherman was saying that our drought conditions caused us to have fewer tornadoes this past summer. :dunno: I hadn't really given it much thought but we didn't have any warnings right in our area. Ian's feet are growing too! In fact, his feet are bigger than Beth's which he thinks is so funny. I'm sure he is going to be tall like his parents. Jason's feet grew first and then he grew taller. I guess your meal times would be earlier with Jack leaving for work so early. Does that make the evening seem long for you?

I need to do the end of the day register counting and paperwork for the gift shop today and tomorrow. I usually go in about 3 since there isn't much going on the last hour or so. Hope you all are having a nicer weather day than I am. Enjoy the rest of your day and evening!

Titilating Chilly Windy Thursday

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS :comp:

It is so chilly today with all that wind blowing. I am about to go and check the thermostat and see if it is set for summer weather still. For dinner I got out some BBQ meat and I will serve it with something I am sure. It is some of that real good BBQ that the man brings around that has been a first place winner in several contests. I think I will go the easy route and serve it on hamburger buns and serve some more of that wonderful fruit I have cut up with it. I was wondering what to do with the rest of those hamburger buns left over from when Will grilled those burgers. It feels so much better in here now that I have flipped the switch over to heater once again. Will had a meeting with the chief of police this morning about him becoming their chaplain. The chief said he is having a department meeting in November and will bring it up to the force. He also got a call from the Sheriff to discuss being their chaplain so he has a meeting scheduled with him. He was chaplain for the sheriff department when we were out in CA.

I had a delicious lunch consisting of a Schwan’s® egg white – cheese – turkey sausage muffin for 6P+. We also have a box of the whole egg, cheese, and pork sausage ones for 12 P+ in the freezer. Will is going to have to try one of the ones that I eat. He may be surprised for they are really good. His realization of the fact that his muffins are double the points may be a factor of how well he likes the lighter version.

JEAN I won’t have to change the way I cook for they are “program friendly” meals. Will will just have to eat less of it, for that way he can lose. He will also have to cut back on his evening snacking. He is a snacker. I e-mailed you the little chart I made to keep track of my after 7pm snacks. Snacking after dinner hour just isn’t one of my problem areas. My problem lies in just too much of a “good thing” consumed during meals. Maybe I should print out a copy of that chart and place it on Will’s desk as a gentle hint. Will loves his bowl of cereal before going to bed. I think that is a “man” thing. For starters he could eat half as much.

DONNA FAYE Do you ever get tired of knitting sox and more sox? I think if I knitted sox I would have lots of pairs for myself after gifting to the family. I have to wear long sox because of this brace and found a source of where to get some neat ones. It is a place that re-enactment folks buy things for their costumes. Miners had nice long sox that came up over their knees of varying colored stripes in them that work for me.

Have a great day Magnolias.

gma22 10-19-2012 09:15 AM

Good morning to you all! It is kind of cool this morning and overcast. I am watching this shopping addiction show and these women are nuts! I can't believe they go shopping when they are going to be evicted from their home. This one crazy lady is addicted to shopping at a dollar store for heaven's sake. She goes almost everyday and spends about $400 at a dollar store. It is crazy. Her friend is an enabler.

I finished the first sock and have started the second and started Jackson's sock. I can go back and forth if I get bored.

Maggie: I like knitting socks and they are a nice gift to give so I guess that is why I knit them all the time. I get my gifts done for this year and I want to start on throw rugs for the house and some matching throw pillows. I will store them until we paint the house and get the new floors put in. It will be fun to create colors. I would like to knit myself more socks. I have a few months before I start anything next year so maybe I can make myself more socks. The bbq sounds yummy. Hope you enjoyed it. I am making chicken and noodles for dinner tonight.

Jean: We go to bed fairly early because of Jack getting up so early so sometimes it seems a bit long but usually I do ok as far as WW is concerned. How is the afghan problem coming along? Crocheting is so much different than knitting I am not sure I helped you much, especially if the afghan is more of an open weave.

I had a weird night for sure and it has to be those darn pills. I would wake up soaked in sweat but chills running up and down my back. I would put on more cover and I put on a sweater and almost immediately had hot flashes causing me to sweat and round and round. It didn't stop until I gave up trying to sleep and just got up. So I am dead tired now, but not sure I want to try to sleep at the moment. :^: I know I am not sick as I never had a fever so it has to be the hormones. I think I have two weeks left and then we shall see what happens I guess.

Everyone have a spectacular weekend! Faye

Jean 10-19-2012 07:49 PM

Good Evening, Flowers! It's been another cloudy, windy, misty/rainy day in my corner of the world. The weatherman has promised sunshine for tomorrow so I hope he is right. I'm ready! I had library books due today, then stopped for bread and milk on my way home. This afternoon I had to close out the weeks money and paperwork for the gift shop so will count that and make the deposit tomorrow. I'm waiting for a BIG check from the hospital and whoever pays the gift shop is a week late. It will probably be there Monday and I'll have to make another trip.

Maggie -- I've had our heat turned on for a few weeks. It's chilly in the morning until the sun moves around to the south and west windows which is where I am most of the day. It's nice of Will to consider being the chaplain for the police and sheriffs departments. Our former associate pastor was fluent in Spanish so was always getting calls from the local jail. I must say that if I snack on anything I prefer a crunch of some sort. I try not to have anything except popcorn or pretzels in the house.

"Gma" -- I am not a shopper! I can't imagine being addicted to shopping anywhere. I try to have a list and get in and out as fast as I can. I am going to the yarn website and see if they have any suggestions. Otherwise think I will try fabric glue on one knot and see if it holds or gets stiff. Because of the way the stitches overlap I can hide the knot. I hope you sleep better tonight!

Bob just invited me to go to the hardware store with him so I'm off. Enjoy your evening!

Maggie 10-19-2012 08:13 PM

Finally Friendly Friday

GOOD EVENING MAGNOLIAS :comp:

Well I got back from the dentist before lunchtime and was still a bit numb in the upper right lip area from the shot he gave me so he could replace an old filling that was just starting to leak . :cp: Being numb made it hard to drink my soda ~ leaked out of the side of my mouth until I put a glass straw in the can to drink from. Now I am good until I go for another cleaning in April of next year. The wind is blowing but not as hard as it did yesterday but still hard. I wouldn’t mind it so much but it brings so much dirt with it. All the animals stay pretty much inside when the wind is like this. Since the weather has cooled off we take them along with us more and they sure do like being with us in the Jeep.

There are a few things that I “had” to get done this day so I got a list started. I didn’t need to get something out of the freezer to thaw for dinner because Will wants to go out to eat at Applebee’s this evening. The Home Improvement type place Will does business with is giving him a counter top that had a scratch on it and it is a large size ~ 9 feet long by 3 feet wide ~ which will be great for a work surface for his leatherwork. He can build a frame for it and have a nice sturdy table to work on down stairs. He has several orders of things that men want him to make for them out of leather for their re-enactment uniforms. They have given him several nice left over pieces of counter tops that he uses in different areas of his “shop.”

Will said he needed to go to Wal*Mart for some things and I went along this afternoon. I just felt that I needed to get out. We picked up some of the WW meals that I have free coupons for while there for I was out of those type of frozen dinners and we didn’t order from Schwan’s® today.

JEAN I don't think that fabric glue will stiffen up ~ it is supposed to be pliable. I am a more of a crunch person than a sweet person when it comes to snacks. A good snack is popcorn or celery with some WW cream cheese in it. I don't shop in stores either. I make great lists and Will does the shopping. He is so good and always remembers to get me some Perrier water even if it isn't on the list. I love drinking a bottle of that in the evening so that must be my evening "snack."

DONNA FAYE Chicken and noodles is a great "comfort" meal. I have some in the freezer that I will be taking out next week one day to heat up. It is so good especially in cold weather. Having those night sweats must make you miserable. Hopefully when you finish the pills it will be the end of the sweats.

Have a great evening Magnolias.

Jean 10-20-2012 10:58 AM

Good Morning, Flowers! It's a foggy morning in my neighborhood, but no wind nor rain. I'm impatiently waiting for the sun to shine. :p Bob and Jason are meeting at the lake to plug up a hole under the cabin where a raccoon has been coming and going according to a neighbor. Jason is bringing firecrackers to scare him out if he's in there. Bob is hoping the dock has been taken out since he left the guy a message but has never gotten a bill. Otherwise they will have to do that too. I've got the gift shop deposit ready to go to the bank and need to think of something to fix for a decent meal when Bob gets home.

Maggie -- I hope your wind has died down as has ours. We don't even have a breeze blowing which is so nice for a change. Lots of leaves fell the last couple days but we still have 3 big trees to go. I'm hoping we'll have some on the ground for the kids to play in next weekend when they are here. Bob will "shop" if I give him a list and can tell him approximately where things are in the grocery store. The problem is I just get to know where things are and then the stores rearrange. :hyper: I noticed the other day, when I stopped for bread and milk, the clerks were moving a whole section of stuff.

I need to get a move on and accomplish something this morning. Enjoy your day and may the sun be shining on you!

gma22 10-20-2012 03:41 PM

Afternoon, gals! It is a nice day here today in the upper 60's.pw 70's. We had to go to Wally's (ugh) today and I told Jack coming home I could stand to have the whole fall and winter like this and not have any cold weather at all this year. Ya, like that is gonna happen!

I absolutely hate Walmart, but it is cheaper than Krogers so we trooped out there this morning to pick up some "tide us over" stuff. Like Jean we needed milk and bread and I needed some snack stuff and some frozen meal lunches. I wanted some lowfat ice cream but their selection was really crummy so I passed. Better to just leave it alone I guess.

I am coming right along on the second sock. I have the leg half done and I have started Jackson's sock too. The kids got their box today and Jay texted me and said everything was awesome but his keyring broke, which bummed me out. It was a kool keychain from St Thomas. His cost a lot more than the little plastic one I sent Jackson to put on his backpack, which cost me a buck and it came through fine! I told him I hoped his socks fit. I am always nervous when they can't try them on so I can rip out and fix them if they don't fit.

I did the mopping this afternoon, pounded sirloin for chicken fried steak tonight and am going to try to dust, but since Jack is planted in front of the tv watching college football today that is doubtful. I will just get to it tomorrow then be a day ahead on my chorese.

Last week we went to Target and I bought a long bathmat for in the tub to keep me from slipping. Since I have totally flat feet, I slide on surfaces really easily even carpeting sometimes. I get really nervous getting into the tub and this is a nice long one that makes me feel a lot less anxious. I don't take it out every day, but I take it out when I clean the tub and spray tilex on it and rinse it off and let it dry so it won't mildew or rot as fast. Jack is a peach that he doesn't grouse about it being in the bottom of the tub all the time and I know he doesn't like bathmats in the tub.

Jean: Sounds like the guys have some jobs ahead of them this weekend. I hate it when they start fooling with grocery store stuff or when Walmart rearranged their whole store. Kroger rearranged every store here in town so that they all were exactly the same. I am still trying to figure out where stuff is now since I had the store memorized. One of the cool things with Krogers is that because I have one of their reward type cards and signed up on their website, every time I buy anything at Krogers, a small percent goes into a fund for Thomas's boy scout troop. It gives money to the boys to buy stuff they need for camping and such, which is nice.

Maggie: I had to laugh about you getting out. I told Jack today when we were at Walmarts, "Well, guess I had my outing for the week!" I hate to keep the car during the week because I have to get up and get dressed so early to take him to work then seems like my day whizzes by and it is time to go out and get him again so I just stay home and try and do things on the weekend.

Well girls, guess I should get back to getting something done. Have a nice weekend. Faye

Saturday

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS :comp:

It is a spring type day here in the ♥-land for the wind has stopped and it is in the high 60ºs and not expected to get over the top of 70ºs into the low 80ºs. There is a train show at the fairgrounds and Will is down there selling raffle tickets for that rifle the museum is presenting. There are trains down there of all sizes of the collector type. We are still looking for a very small one to go with my glass village but the ones down there are very spendy ~ too much per car. He was given a list of where to find them not so expensive, which is helpful, since we aren’t collectors. We know a man who has built a huge warehouse type building and has it full of trains running on tracks through country settings and city settings and hill and dale. Quite a production and he keeps building on it. Anyway we just want one little train. He said he saw folks spending thousands of dollars on train stuff while he was there. Not just a few hundred but thousands spent on collections.

I just ate a lovely lunch consisting of a WW frozen dinner called Chicken Fettuccini. Ate it with my chopsticks in my bamboo bowl and enjoyed every bite. I, of course, added some of my hot chili flaked to it. I like the WW, Lean Q and Schwan’s light dinners and get whichever ones are on sale or I have coupons for. Works for me when Will is out and about at meal time.

Tonight for dinner it is going to be Schwan’s® Shepherds Pie and salad with cut up fruit for dessert. That is easy enough on a busy day such as this.

DONNA FAYE Those frozen meal lunches are sure handy to have around aren't they. Your sox are coming right along and I know the recepients are very happy to receive them. :D

JEAN The time has come to winterize the cabin once again. Hopefully they were successfl getting that varmit to vacate his hole. They can do some real damage if left to their devices.

I am off to do some chores.
Have a great afternoon Magnolias.

Jean 10-21-2012 11:22 AM

Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is playing hide 'n seek with the clouds and the wind has picked up. At 46 degrees it's going to have to go some to hit the projected 77 today. We are having leftovers for lunch and then will hang some more pictures. Bob has to sing at second service so it will be a couple hours before I see him again. I have more laundry to do and the never ending "stuff" to sort through. I have to find Ian and Zowie's school pictures! Amanda gave them to me at a football game and I don't remember what I did with them -- hope not something stupid like putting them inside a magazine and then pitching the magazine.

Maggie -- We have a "train room" at Santa's Castle donated, kept repaired, and added to by a 90 year old gentleman. He loves to talk to anyone who is interested in the different trains. There is something mind catching about watching them go through tunnels, etc. There is an even bigger one on display in Spencer but I'm not sure if it's open year around or not. Good luck in finding a train for your village. There was no raccoon under the cabin, or if there was he slept through the firecrackers. The dock was out so the guys didn't have to do that. Bob said we have about 30' of beach which has happened since Labor Day. He will have to build more walking boards to get to the dock next spring.

Hope you all enjoy your day and do something nice for yourself!

Simply Sunny Beautiful Sunday

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS :comp:

It is currently 66ºs here in the ♥-Land and is said to get up to the mid 80ºs before the day is over with. No wind at all ~ just a light breeze now and then. We went by the fair building that was having the train show and saw folks carrying out lots of packages so some people have bucks to spend there. One guy bought an engine that cost him $6000 and no telling what the cars cost each. I guess I just never knew there were so many people interested in model trains. I located one on line that will suit our purposes and is small enough to work with the glass village and we don’t have to hock the farm to buy it either.

I am so incredibly sleepy this afternoon and don’t know why for I had a good nights sleep. I just had a snack of some fresh pineapple spears, WW string cheese and WW roasted salsa multigrain chips which perked me up. This is probably the best pineapple we have gotten yet this year ~ nice and perfectly ripe. I had a sandwich and cottage cheese with tomato chunks in it for lunch and am going to make a breakfast after evening services at church. I still have over half of my extra weekly points+ allowance left to use if I want this evening. So far I haven’t used any of my activity points.

JEAN The train folks filled up a whole huge building at the fair grounds but they were from all over and it was a 2 day event. Lots got sold. Those from the museum had a table there and sold some tickets for the raffel for that rifle for the museum. It is nice there was no varment living under you cabin for that could be a mess come next time you went to open up. How nice that dock man came and did his job and your hubby and son didn't have to do it afterall.

Have a great day Magnolias.

gma22 10-22-2012 09:18 AM

Good morning to you ladies. It is going to be a lovely day here, sunny and fairly warm in the 80's supposedly. I had a lovely long chat with my dil this morning. She said Jay didn't think his socks would fit and she told him, I bet they do, put them on and they fit perfectly. She said he was wearing them with his sandals!  She told me she would take a picture of him in them. She told her he couldn't believe how soft and warm they were. She laughed when I told her I got sick and tired of knitting his darn socks. She just got back from a week in California visiting all her father's relatives, many of whom live in Mexico. Since Jackson is in school, she went with her mother and sister and niece. It was great to talk to her and tell her about the cruise and all. Since she is a pharmacist I ask her about the bonine and she said it should work well for me.

Today was weigh in day and I am down 6 lbs for the week! :carrot::carrot::carrot: I am not down a total of 14 lbs since I came back from vacation. I just have to keep focusing on the cruise for next year and that blasted safety drill.

Maggie: Jack would love to have a train set up, but there isn't any place to put it here. I know they spend thousands on their trains. It is a man being a little boy I think. Most men loved trains when they were boys. The museum of Science and Industry in Chicago has a cool train exhibit. I haven't been there in a long, long time. It a lot of walking and I mean a lot as the place is huge, but it is someplace everyone that visits Chicago should go to. Our school used to have field trips to the museum and we kids always loved that as we got to wander around on our own, then meet for lunch then wander around for a couple hours more then go home. I remember once we went by Greyhound style bus and we all thought we were in the big time not having to go by school bus.

Jean: I hope you found the school pictures ok. I told Jack I have to remember to go through all the catalogues I get to make sure I don't toss out the knitting magazine Kelly subscribed for me. I tend to just toss them all. It the lake situation because of not enough rain this season do you think??? Glad they fixed the cabin hole and the dock was out too. Seems like a lot of work. Glad you have the kids to help when they can.

Well, they moved my daily programming around to later in the day so I guess I better get to my chores for today. I need to get upstairs and get showered and dressed and do some stuff up there too. Have a great start to your week. Faye

QuilterInVA 10-22-2012 05:03 PM

Good evening, ladies! We're still having temps in the high 70s and low 80s during the day but down in the 40s and 50s at night. The leaves are just starting to turn.

I didn't realize how long it had been since I posted. Time just flies when you are having fun. The retreat went well and we were told to just plan on coming to all the retreats until they tell us to stop. We seem to be getting a bunch of quilting groupies. When they found out we'd be at spring retreat, they started signing up and in 2 weeks there are 22 signed up and only 8 places open.

Last weekend was the quilting expo at the Hampton Convention Center and, again, I had fun. I didn't take any classes but helped Glory.

Thursday night was Ladies of the Evening and Friday night was lock-in. More fun!

I spent the past weekend moving my quilting studio downstairs into my dining room which I never used. I really like having it here and will get more sewing done. Casper has been having fits at the furniture rearranging. He has to investigate everything thoroughly.

Faye, you are like a sock knitting machine! I hope your female problems will finally be over. You are doing great with your weight loss!

Jean, you sound like me - always forgetting where I put stuff.

Maggie, have you gotten the new Hungry Girl Cookbook? I really love it.

Have a great evening!

Weigh Day

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS :comp:

It is a lovely day in the high 70ºs and I am back now from going to the dentist to get a spot smoothed on my new filling. Afterwards we stopped by Sonic and I had their roast chicken sand. We then stopped by Wal*mart™ to pick up some necessary items. I stayed in the car and watched people. While sipping my sf ff vanilla latte I enjoyed watching the shoppers loading their goodies they purchased. There were several really cute kids being pushed by in shopping carts that smiled and waves at me. I can imagine what fun they will be having at Christmas. It is interesting to see the different vehicles the college kids are driving now days. One gal drives by in a Rolls where another has a Jeep, PT Cruiser , Mini Cooper or a Volkswagon Convertible. One can usually tell what kids have rich parents by what they drive. However, some of the guys that drive beat up pick-ups are doing that by choice and it doesn’t denote how much money they come from. Most of the students are driving those generic little cars. Gotta watch out for the oriental drivers here for they don’t know how to drive or use their signal lights. What is really neat is to see the college kids walking with their grandparents. The folks have moved away and then sent the kids back here to go to college and live with the grandfolks.

I don’t have a cold but have been sneezing up a storm. The wind we get here brings things to my nose and eyes which are watering. I should own stock in the Kleenex company.

I am down a couple of pounds on my scale today so I should show a loss at WW this evening. Since I typed this earlier :comp: I am now back from WW :goodscale: and did show a loss of 2.4 pounds. :cp: That brings me to a good 82 pounds down.

I have been looking through some catalogs that have Christmas items and found a few things that will work great with my glass village. There is a little 2 inch crystal snowman that is adorable and a battery operated fiber optic Christmas tree that is 13 inches tall that will work great. There is also a 3 inch diameter 3D crystal sun burst ornament that I can hang from the ceiling over the village. I have got to place that catalog in a special place and not toss it like I am doing most of them. If Michaels doesn’t have the tiny plug in Christmas light strings I have gotten there before and installed on a few houses I can get some of those little individual battery operated tea lights to set under the buildings that will blink colors.

DONNA FAYE :congrat: for that terrific weight loss. You go girlfriend. It is really neat that you have a pharmacist in the family. Too bad Jack doesn’t have a room that he could set up some tracks and have a train or two.

SUSAN I will look in a local book store for that book or get it on line. I was unaware she had a new one out ~ I have 3 of hers. The last one was out in April 2011 and has 300 Recipes Under 300 Calories. Thanks for the heads up on that information that she has a new one out. Is it called Hungry Girl to the Max? What fun you have been having. Good idea to get your work moved downstairs now for it sounds like it would make things easier for you.

JEAN Hope all is well with you.

Have a great day Magnolias.

Jean 10-22-2012 10:14 PM

GRRRRRR!

I just typed a fairly long message and it disappeared! I am NOT doing it again tonight!

gma22 10-23-2012 07:33 AM

Good morning to you all. It didn't get very cold overnight last night as I had the fans on all night. We haven't had to use the AC except once since we came back from vacation so I imagine it is done for the year, but it did get into the 80's here yesterday.

I have about 40 rows to go on the sock then can do the toe and I am done with that pair and can work on Jackson's. Yesterday was Jay's birthday so we called him last night and Jackson wanted to talk to me and he was filling me in on all kinds of stuff I wasn't sure what he was talking about, but I just, "Oh that sounds cool," or "Wow I bet that is neat." and he seemed satisfied. He would start to tell me something and then turn his head towards his dad and I would lose the end of the conversation. He informed me I bought his dad socks for his birthday. I had to laugh at that one.

I guess Jay and Jack are going to try and take Jackson to a baseball game in June when we go up there for his birthday. I promised him next year we would go up there so go up there we will. I guess the Cubs are in town that weekend so the guys made plans to get tickets and go on Friday I guess. I am not going. They sit out in the bleachers and I would get cooked like a Christmas goose even with sunscreen on so I am going to pass. I was totally miserable the last time we went so they can just have guy fun and I will find something else to do.

Maggie: Congrats on your loss. It is always great to see the scale go down for sure. It is dangerous to drive in this town for sure. People don't obey traffic laws at all even with cameras up in place. We don't see many of the college kids as the college is across town, though when we go to that little restaurant we went to for our birthdays or I go to my hair stylist we are more likely to see them. Mini Coopers seem to be popular here. I do not know why. You need a can opener to get in and out of those things!

Susan: I know you have to be glad having your studio downstairs now. We don't use our dining room either, at least not as a dining room so eventually my knitting stuff will be stored in cubes in there when we get flooring put in and such. Sounds like you have really kept yourself busy. I watch the Hungry Girl show on tv all the time but I don't have any of her cookbooks. I will have to check them out on Amazon I guess.

Jean: Sorry you lost your post. That is always extremely irritating.

Everyone have a great day today. I am going to start chores and get some knitting done. Faye

Jean 10-23-2012 10:29 AM

Good Morning, Flowers! It's foggy and gloomy here this morning. It's supposed to be sunny and in the 70s this afternoon. I see the guy across the street must have caught something while hunting . . . he's all decked out in his hunting get-up and unloading bodies out of his pickup. A couple weeks ago he had a deer hanging in his garage. Gross! We are heading to Sioux City later this morning and then have a church meeting tonight.

Maggie -- :congrat: on losing another 2.4 pounds! Your determination is paying off! :cp: I can't imagine paying $6000 for anything! Bob has his collection of toy tractors but nothing remotely costing that much. Let's not talk about his big tractors though!

"Gma" -- :congrat: to you on being 6 pounds lighter! I'm glad Jay's socks fit! Nope, still haven't found the pictures. I can make copies from Beth's but wish I knew what I did with my own. I would let the guys go to a game and not feel the least bit left out. If nothing else I would read a book or people watch at a mall.

Susan -- I was so glad to see you last night! I was beginning to worry about your. I have visions of you flying from place to place with a bag full of quilting supplies fluttering behind you.

I need to put the breakfast dishes in the dishwasher and wipe down the counter. Enjoy your day today!

Titilating Chilly Tuesday

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS :comp:

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood. We are to be in the 70ºs and low to mid 80ºs once again with no wind but a nice breeze is a tad bit chilly. I have been having a good time going through some catalogues in search of little things that will work with my glass village and have located quite a few items. The Christmas season is the best time to find these types of items. I am looking forward to our trip next month to the city to pick up some more strings of lights for my glass buildings. I am just having so much fun. The first of the month I will put in an order to the catalogues so the items will arrive in time for me to decorate around the houses for the season. It is hard to believe that it is already the 23rd of Rocktober and the new month is knocking the door. I found the cutest little :tree: for the village that I am anxious to get.

They are having a sale on some items at WW and last evening I bought a couple of the skins to personalize the points+ calculators I have. I got the psychedelic ones which make my calculator easy to see on my desk for sure. I covered also the calculator I keep out in the kitchen. :cp: I imagine they will come out with new covers for the calculators that will be with the “new program material.” All the current program material is on sale now. I am so determined to be down 100#s by Valentines Day :val1: of next year. That is my goal and I am going to do my best to reach it. My valentine gift to me is to reach this goal. Please keep your :crossed: for me to reach my goal of losing on the average a pound a week which will get me there.

DONNA FAYE What a charming little grandson you have. Cherish those moments you have with him on the phone. I am sure you will find something to entertain your self while the guys are at the game. I don't do bleachers well either and totally understand.

JEAN I goofed (a typeo) ~ That little train engine sold for $7000 and was made in Germany. I can think of a lot of ways to spend that much money. :p The man that bought it must be a very SERIOUS collector of trains. Now be realistic ~ where else could your neighbor hang his dear if he doesn't have a barn. Lots of folks use their garage for that.:D But I do understand you don't like looking at it ~ I wouldn't either. All I ever shot got hung in a barn.

Have a great day Magnolias.

gma22 10-24-2012 08:53 AM

Good morning everyone! Another warm day here in the south. Kind of crazy for the end of October. It is usually in the 70's for the highest this time of year, but I am not complaining.

We got all our photos yesterday from the online photo store and they turned out perfectly. We got 50 free photos for signing up so we got 70 4 x 6 photos, a 5 x 7 and an 8 x 10 including shipping it was only 10$. I still have more photos I want to order, but I am waiting for Jack to get the still photos off our video camera and he can't figure out how to do it. :)

I finished Kelly's socks and am on the heel of the first sock for Jackson. I am breezing right along and may even get to start on my own socks soon, which would be cool, just in time for cold weather. I am anxious so see how soft these socks will be as they have aloe in the yarn.

I have kitchen cleaning to do today and haven't done a darn thing yet, but will get around to it before Jack gets home. We are having pot roast and carrots for dinner so that is easy peasy to pop into the oven. I like it is in the oven better than the crockpot, but use the crockpot when it is hot outdoors.

Jean: I actually could care less about going to the game. Frankly though I love the originality of Wrigley Field, the seats are made for people who were a lot smaller decades ago and they can be pretty miserable so I don't care about going. It will be nice for the three "Jacks" to go together and have their day. If my best friend is not working I may go and visit with her and take her to lunch and such. I miss her a lot. We have been best friends for 47 years. She is an only child and her parents are now both dead so I am basically her sister, at least she considers me her sister, which is fine with me! I think I would gag having a hunter hang his kill where I could see it. I am ok with hunting if they eat their kill, but I have a real problem with hunters that kill for sport. I often wonder how they would feel being hunted so their darn head could be put up on a wall as a trophy.

Maggie: I have really enjoyed my little dog house. I have it in my kitchen and turn it on every evening as a night light. Since we will be doing Christmas so early this year, I am not going to drag everything out and put it up. The problem here is the big windows are in the back of the house and the garage completely blocks a view of them and the front, has two smaller windows and have big tall bushes that cover the winow about chest high so no one would be able to see my decorated tree anyway. Since we always have Christmas at Kelly's because she has a big house, I just figure I am not going to the trouble. Maybe when I remodel then we will have it at our house sometime, but for now no.

I guess I better hope to it as it is almost 8 AM. I am watching this crazy show on HGTV where these sisters and their family has this huge junk place in Texas and does some crazy home decorating. Have a great middle of the week. Faye

Jean 10-24-2012 02:22 PM

Good Afternoon, Flowers! It's a breezy rainy day in my corner of the world today. The sun never did come out yesterday; tomorrow is supposed to be down in the lower 40s. I worked in the gift shop this morning and sold one balloon, read some of my magazines, and cut free fitness center passes for the marketing department. Bob came for lunch and now I need to get busy on the clutter piles. We bought a couple wall things yesterday so would like to get those hung. Bell practice is at 5 and I need to stop for bread and milk either before or after.

Maggie -- $7000 is worse than $6000! I wish we could see your village all set up. The tiny trees will add a lot. With your determination you can reach the 100# mark by Valentine's Day! Has your leader given any hints about anything new for the program coming up? It seems like they always change something towards the end of the year.

"Gma" -- I know you will enjoy looking at your trip photos! I like to look at photo albums and Bob's mom had quite a few since her family was scattered. The grandkids get a kick out of seeing pictures of their parents when they were little. Are you making socks for Thomas this year? It's about time you made a pair for yourself. ;) I haven't gotten any Halloween decorations out and don't know if I will. Jason called last night and said they might come on Saturday and stay overnight which means I have to get busy in the bedroom! We moved a lot of the stuff there when the painters were here and I wasn't sure I wanted it all back to where it was so hadn't done anything with them. :o It would be nice if you could spend some time with your friend while the guys go to the game.

I need to do some laundry that is piling up. Hope you all enjoy a wonderful Wednesday today!

Maggie 10-24-2012 11:28 PM

Wonderful Cool Wednesday

GOOD EVENING MAGNOLIAS :comp:

It has been a lovely day in the 70ºs here in the ♥-Land. I am currently drying some sirloin beef for jerky. Will got a sale on some thin cut meat and it is really thin. Thinner than I usually dry for jerky but it won’t take as long to dry but I hope it doesn’t get too dried out before it becomes jerky. I have to keep checking it each hour or so. The usual cut is ½ inch thick and 1 inch wide. This is just under a ¼ inch thick so I cut it into slabs instead of strips. I really like to start out with ½ inch thick and 1 inch wide pieces which take @ 10 hours to dry. :crossed: hope it turns out good. I am making mesquite flavored this time I’m using a dried marinade mix with 1 Tbsp. smoke flavor, ¼ tsp salt and ¾ cup water for the 1½ # sirloin. I let it marinade in the sauce for ½ hour before draining it and putting it in the dehydrator. 2 pounds of meat usually turns out ½ pound of jerky which is 2P+ an ounce. My 1½ pound will be slightly under ½ pound result I am sure.

Not much goings on this day otherwise. Had Bible study tonight and went out to I-Hop for dinner afterwards. I had beaters and turkey bacon and a biscuit.

JEAN The business surely will pick up at that gift shop closer to Christmas. Folks like to shop at places like that for friends and last minute things. No our leader hasn't said anything about the next years program except that there isn't much change. But they always do tinker with the program so we shall see. Gives them a good reason to put out the dining out companion and food companion booklets with some new information in them. :D I use mine a lot so don't mind getting new ones.

DONNA FAYE I totally agree with Jean about your making yourself some sox. ;) Looks like you are going to have a lot of fun going through all those photos. Memories to cherish. We won't be doing a lot of Christmas decorations but since we do have "drop in's" it is nice to have it looking a bit festive. I will spend most of my home shopping on the village things, I do believe, for I have found some neat glass things to go with it.

Have a great Evening Magnolias.

gma22 10-25-2012 09:41 AM

Good morning to you all! It seems overcast at the moment, but we aren't supposed to get rain until tomorrow, which makes it fun of course because I have errands to run and Fortune to the groomers tomorrow.:( It is supposed to get cold too, upper 50's for a high and it will be mid 80's today for a high. Long pants and sweater here I come!

We are going to have pk chop, stuffing and asparagus for supper tonight. I told Jack last night for a dinner that is made in one pan, pot roast nights always make a big fat mess. We are going out to dinner to Genghis Grill tomorrow night because I have a 2fer coupon where you get dinner, your drinks and a sundae to split between you for $20. We haven't been to Genghis for quite awhile since way before our cruise so it will be nice. It is a place you can keep the calories down by putting a lot of veggies and just a bit of meat or no meat in your bowl. I always like the asian noodles, but they have rice and a rotini style pasta too.

I only have 4 days left on my hormone meds so am looking forward to it and dreading it if it does what it has before when I stopped them. I may consider doing one more round of this meds and d and c thing but then that is it. I am not going to keep this up. I have to make an appt with her and with me reg dr in December so I should be doctored out by then. :^:

I ordered all of Jackson's Christmas presents this morning so that is done. I have to get the older one to send me a list so I guess I should email him and get him going on it. Jackson is kind of easy at this point as you buy him anything superheros and he is a-okay with it. I got him a couple of the movies, a Wii game that is batman and lego, which had great reviews for kids his age and another lego avengers kit. I also bought him these ridiculously overpriced things he has been begging his mom for, they are tv commercials and one is a blanket with a dog's head that becomes a puppet and the other are dragon slippers that growl when he walks. I know, I am a pushover Nonny!

Jean: Yes, I am making a matching pair of socks for Thomas. They will be the same as Jackson's only bigger of course. I decided to start on the littler ones first as they will go faster. I have Jackson's first one almost done already. Since Thomas no longer does trick or treat, we don't do anything for Halloween. We have few kids here and the lighting out front isn't good so I don't give out candy. It is too much of "the hood" to do things after dark here. I ordered Jackson a Halloween pail from the popcorn place and had it shipped to him to arrive on Halloween. I need to email Alicia about that and let her know it is coming.

Maggie: I can tell it is fall, Maggie is doing the jerky! Have you seen all the articles and such about the chicken jerky you can buy for your dogs? I guess it is made in China, pretty much all the brands and it has been killing dogs. Fortune doesn't like jerky so I haven't ever bought any, but I sure have checked my dog treats to make sure they are american made. I guess it is only the chicken treats made in China. I don't do "greenies" for Fortune either because I have heard they will chunk off and choke dogs. I do buy him teeth cleaning treats and he likes the plain only little alpo dog treats and pupperoni, he likes those and a few other things. I have more problems with him deciding he won't eat the dog food anymore than anything else. He can drive me crazy when he does that. I want him on dry dog food, but he absolutely refuses to eat it anymore. It is better for him, especially since he is almost 13 now, but nope, just won't eat it.

Well girls, have a great day. Today is clean the bathroom upstairs, which I always look forward to so much! ;) Faye

Jean 10-25-2012 10:59 AM

Good Morning, Flowers! It is snowing in my neighborhood! I am NOT ready for this kind of weather yet! I have checks to write for the gift shop this morning. The buyer brought them to the house yesterday and 3 out of the 6 are due today. :dizzy: I have no clue how long it takes to get them signed and in the mail once I take them back to the hospital. I have WW later this morning and coffee with a friend this afternoon. No wonder I don't get much done around here!

Maggie -- I-Hop is Ian's favorite place to go eat right now. He loads up on pancakes. I am really tempted not to put up our big Christmas tree this year, but I'm not sure how that will go over with the grandkids. The really sad part about our gift shop is that the CEO who moved us and in so doing so gave us much less space, is now history. The funny part is that his picture was just in the local paper as part of a retirement surprise for a nurse and her husband who just retired from the packing plant after 30 years. Their daughter is a nurse at the hospital and was also in the picture; when the CEO got his walking papers the rumor mill had him getting caught with an employee during working hours.

"Gma" -- I would be happy to share some of our weather with you! ;) I hope when you go off the hormones, all will be ok. I just ordered Ian's birthday toys online and am now waiting for Christmas ideas. Both moms send me the links which is so helpful. I don't know why but pepperoni treats just struck my funny bone. :lol3: I love the dog commercial where the big dog (lab ?) races through the house and jumps up on his "mom" begging for a treat.

I am dressed, have my face on, and need to get the checks written. Hope you all have terrific Thursday and nicer weather than here!

Titilating Chilly Windy Thursday

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS :comp:

It is a chilly day here in the ♥-Land. Current temp is 42ºF with a wind chill of 30ºF with 30 MPH winds blowing. We did have the pitter patter of a tad bit of rain during the night. In other words it is a cold day here and it is said not to get above the 40ºF mark. Will has gone to the museum and the dogs are asleep in the front room and the cat is on the bed snoozing. I am sitting here sipping on my :coffee: sf ff latte that Will so nicely brought to me this morning before he left. Life is good. :cp:

I have yet not decided what I am going to do this day. I need to clean off the top of my desk for it is loaded with “stuff” over so much of the top that I can’t see my desk calendar. Pitiful. However I am a happy camper for the jerky turned out good. In fact Will said it is much better than what we have been buying from our favorite butcher. That means that I will be making it more with the mesquite flavoring. Will did locate a bottle of mesquite liquid smoke he had purchased awhile back that I didn’t know we had. I asked him where he found it this morning and he said on the very top shelf kinda in the back. Well that is not where I keep my liquids that I cook with so I had used my hickory smoke which worked well. Next batch I will use the matching flavors and see how it turns out. :cp: Why in the world he had put it up on that top shelf I haven’t a clue, nor does he. I am just glad he remembers buying it for it wasn’t on a list I had made. It remains a mystery. :chin:

For awhile when Will wanted to pet the cat Cecil ran from him. We figured out the “why.” There for awhile Cecil wouldn’t come in from outside when it was our bed time and Will and Beanie would go out and round him up. Will would pick Cecil up and cart him into the house. Now for a few days Will has been picking him up when he is outside during the day and doesn’t bring him in so Cecil isn’t running from him anymore and has been coming in on his own around bedtime. He is one smart cat.

It is just about lunch time and I will see what type of TV dinner I can have this day. I think for dinner I will bake some chicken breasts and make some of my rice mixture and some kind of a vegetable, which means I will thaw out some chicken later this day. Those :chicken: breast tenders thaw rather quickly in a bowl of water. I do thaw them before unwrapping them.

JEAN Snowing. I bet it won't stick much this early. Snowing, WOW winter is here isn't it. What happened to Fall? Maybe the new CEO can move things around once again and give you more space since the "charmer" is now gone that moved you to the cramped area.

DONNA FAYE I do hope your hormones have settled down and behave when you finish up with those meds. :crossed: for you. Your dinner sounds yummy. We are very careful and read the labels on doggie treat packages and get the ones made here in the USofA. At the dollar store we get those lovely looking turkey jerky wrapped little doggie biscuits for our pouches and they really go for them. We allso get some beef sticks made in this country that we break up into smaller pieces. I have recipes (wouldn't ya think) of doggie biscuits of various flavors that I could make my own if I was inclined to do so. I would surely know then they were made in the USofA.

Have a great day Magnolias.

Good morning girls! It cold and rainy here today and of course I have been running around in it all morning so am now trying to get dried out.

I washed Kelly's sock this morning and blocked them. I gave you two pictures so you could see the stitch pattern on the leg and top of the foot a bit better. These were really fun to knit, but I have to concentrate on getting the boys socks done now.

Fortune is at the groomers, I ran to the post office to pick up a certified letter and mail some stuff. I couldn't figure out who could be sending me something certified but come to find out, it is from the law firm I hired when I slipped in a restaurant at least 5-7 years ago. I guess they are cleaning out their files and wanted to know if I wanted my medical info or if they should destroy them. All of that for something they could have just mailed to me. I mean, after this long, they could have stored or just destroyed the file as I dropped it when I couldn't get anyone to take care of my knee. I then went to Fresh Market and got some nice fruit. I am a bit tired of bananas and wanted some decent oranges and pears.

Maggie: I bought this abruuze cheese spread to have with crackers for a snack and wowee is it spicy. It will keep me from using much that's for sure. It has a nice taste and a delayed zing:fr:

Jean: UGH, snow already! The rain here is bad enough. It has been really dark here today and my rearview mirror self adjusts so it was like driving at night everytime I looked in it. My favorite commercial with a dog it the Travelers insurance with that white dog that carries in the groceries, puts his bowl in the dishwasher, cleans up spilled milk and such. I think he is so cute. I like him in their other commercials too where he is in his dog house worrying about the safety of his bone and he keeps moving it all over the place.

Well gals, I have bunches to do today. You all have a great weekend. We have commissary shopping this weekend, ugh! Faye

Finally Friendy Chilly Friday

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS :comp:

Burrr :brr: baby It’s cold outside. It is currently 32ºf and not expected to get any higher this day than 43ºf. What a winter day this will be and it is a might early if you ask me. I was going through some clips I had saved out of magazines and there is something I really want to buy. Taha’s Vanilla Salt’s large, crunchy, fragrant flakes which they say are good on grilled fish, pork, or chicken, or dusted on grilled peaches or fresh berries. Now doesn’t that sound like I need something like that in my kitchen? I vote yes. I checked out the web site and they have so many different salts it is amazing. I will work this into our food budget and that way I won’t have to spend “my allowance” on it. I showed the little blurb about that salt to Will and he is all for me getting it. If you want to check out all the items they have ~ here is the site’s address ~ www.atthemeadow.com
There are other salts I have my eye on to purchase besides the vanilla one there. :cp:

These animals crack me up. They, all three of them, come into my office first thing when I get up and sit in a row looking up at me just waiting patiently for a “good boy” treat. They get one each before I even get my computer turned on. They do the same thing with Will when he first goes into his office in the morning.

Will wants spaghetti for dinner this day so I will oblige. We haven’t had it in awhile and so it will be yummy on this cold day. I like using those small 1P+ each meat balls for it sure makes it easy to count the points of what I consume. I always make enough so we can have a re-run of it later. Sometimes it is even better that way.

I sure hope we can grow a garden next year. I miss having all those yummy fresh picked veggies right out of the garden. I have a wonderful recipe for slow-roasted tomatoes, that are so yummy as a side dish, which uses those plum tomatoes. They are roasted at 200º for 7½ hours. I clipped the recipe years ago and notice the magazine has now re-printed it. That has happened more and more of late I find a recipe that looks familiar and low and behold I already have it in my binder. Anyway if you want the recipe I can type it out for you. Roasted this way ~ 4 tomato halves count as 2P+ and are well worth the cost.

DONNA FAYE Thanks for the picture of the sox. They are a party in themselves ~ I love them. I will certainly put that cheese on my "to buy list" for it certainly sounds like something I would enjoy. Mo hotta mo betta. :p
Have a great day Magnolias.

Good Afternoon, Flowers! The guys are here replacing the glass panels in my new sliding doors. Whoever put them together put 2 of them together inside out. We need 4 and they only brought 3. :( Why can't people ever do things right, or is it just me? :dizzy: They will be making a return trip as soon as the sun shines and Bob can take more pictures. He stayed home this morning and we've been hanging pictures, a mirror, and a lamp. I got rid of some wall things and have put others in different places. Sometimes it's taken the two of us to get it right. :D Now I know why we don't paint more often. :hyper:

Maggie -- The windchill is 25 today! :brr: It's another gloomy day. I'm glad you are enjoying your jerky. Bob likes that and takes it fishing when he goes to Canada. The area where the gift shop was (right inside the main entrance, across from the ER doors, check in offices, information desk, and lab waiting room) is now the chapel and the volunteer director's office. In other words the chapel is like in the middle of a major traffic area. They changed walls, took out display windows, and moved doors so it's not likely they would ever put us back there. Nurses thought the chapel should be up on 2nd floor where the patient rooms and ICU are located but the "hot-to-trot" CEO wouldn't listen to them. We have a few display shelves in the coffee shop and also an enclosed, locked display in the main entrance.

"Gma" -- Kelly's socks are awesome! I love the colors and how the design worked out. I haven't seen the Travelers commercial. I wonder if different parts of the country get different commercials. :dunno: I really like any animal commercial. My other "problem" is that Bob plays musical channels as soon as a commercial comes on. I've tried to convince him all the stations have them on about the same time.

Guess I will go check on the door progress. Hope you all enjoy a nice day!
