Hey Annie/sneaker-inner! The candles/holders sound so pretty! That was really sweet of DD. My pocket flap job was only $8 - definitely worth it to me!! Enjoy the concert this weekend!!

Happy Friday ladies!!

I went for my massage yesterday, and scheduled another one in two weeks. Believe me when I say that this is NOT pampering! The masseuse is really good about finding all the knots/tension where the muscles/tendons/ligaments attach to the bones, and then she presses on them so hard I literally cry out some times. It's called deep tissue, trigger point therapy. And while it's painful at the time, it does feel so much better when it's over, and I believe it is helping. So I'm looking at it as rehab rather than pampering. After the massage, DH and I went and got the boat out of storage, though I'm not sure we'll get out on the water this weekend.

Tomorrow, we're going to a DIY class on how to build a retaining wall (since we're going to be building concrete block planters around a few of our trees). This is probably something that can be done without much instruction, but DH and I saw the free class being offered and figured a little instruction might not be a bad thing (not bad for a guy that refuses to ask for directions, huh?). After the DIY class, we're going to a couple really nice nurseries. Don't worry ladies, there's not much moving, lifting or placing of concrete blocks in my foreseeable future. And I'll be bringing my walker/seat to get around. I would like to do some planting this weekend of veggies and annuals this weekend, but I'll have to check the weather forecast to see if we have any more freezing nights coming up. Again, I'll only do as much as my back allows.

We're taking DMIL out to breakfast tomorrow and then having a cookout on Sunday.

It's such a beautiful sunny day, with highs in the low to mid 60s! I may spend my lunch hour sitting outside and reading a book.

As for Mischief, DH had a great talk with our regular vet about the tests that the cardiologist did. Our vet said that Mischief's condition is so rare, and yet so treatable...that there's no reason to think that her life expectancy will be shortened. She gave me and DH a nice compliment by saying that since she has us...she will likely live a long, healthy, happy life. Awwww, so sweet of her to say. I can already see her rear leg strength increasing little by little, which is a good sign. You'll never guess the med they have my spayed female dog on though...Viagra...yes, the little blue pill. Apparently it was originally developed to treat pulmonary hypertension (which is what Mischief has), and it was discovered that it had an "interesting" side effect in men. I'm just glad we're not giving it to our boy dogs! Anyway, because Mischief is so little, she gets just a small dose. The pharmacy put it in liquid form, added an apparently yummy chicken flavoring, and we give it to her on a very small piece of bread. She loves it.

We're having a freezer delivered this afternoon, and we may go to Costco this weekend. I'm hoping to get to the pool for some water jogging after work and after the delivery guys leave.

Ceejay - Good for you for treating yourself and bringing someone in to clean your house! Now you've got more time to enjoy yourself on the weekend. I hope your sinus headache has gone away by now. Be careful on the roads this weekend and don't drive on flooded streets!!

Mel - I'm glad you were able to stock up at TJ's. I applaud you for being committed to exercising even when you're tired. With all the hours you're working, make sure you have plenty of time for rest and relaxation. DMIL reads both paperbacks and hardcovers.

Shad - Sorry you had such a rough work at home day. I've had those before where I can't access shared drives. I'm not sure how your remote connection works. I usually can fix it by rebooting my computer and reconnecting to my work's network. But I totally understand your frustration with the no-help desk. It's like, duh, I'm having trouble connecting REMOTELY, of course I won't have trouble if I bring the computer to you. I hope you had a nice time enjoying the sun, reading and shopping.

Happy - I hope you stay high and dry this weekend and next week.

Annie - Thank you so much for the books! My DMIL had finished the first batch, and dove right into this batch!! And I enjoyed reading the magazines! So very nice of you!! That was so sweet of Samantha! I love Yankee candles, and I really like the floral crackle design! So pretty, just like Samantha and her momma. Good for you for getting the grass cut. Either DH or I should probably do that this week. Miss Annie, I hope you can treat yourself to a pampering massage soon. Notice I said "pampering", not the painful, rehab kind I get. Maybe do that with the $$ from the extra shifts you're pulling at CVS. I hope you have a wonderful time at Bob Seger and enjoy some "Night Moves" and "Hollywood Nights"!

Laura - Good for you on all the exercising. I hope the pain in your arse gets better. I'm glad to hear the cleaners did a good job and so inexpensive! I tried one of those upside down tomato things last summer and it had great sun and water, and the darn thing only grew a few inches and never bore any tomatoes...not even green ones. I hope your bf's mother has better luck if she decides to get one.

Well, back to work for this chick.

And as Annie said, "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL whether it be to kidlets and/or critters...." Wishing us all a wonderful weekend!!

Love and hugs to all,

Still here ladies, but have been busy running this week, I am catching DH's cold, so I don't think I will push to make it to his show Saturday night. Have to work all weekend. Hoping I can manage, can't afford to miss any days.

Annie - to be perfectly honest, when I learned the cost of the dog's medication...I was joking with DH that he should go to the doc and tell him he has ED (even though he does not) and then maybe the insurance would pay for the little blue pill. But then I called our insurance and they do not cover it. Oh well, hopefully it goes generic soon.

Morning all,
Little blue pills on lady dogs, pains in arses, colds, non productive days due to the no help desk, rising waters and deepening depression in offices - we are having a ball are we not.
At least Annie is on a high with her lovely candles and Laura has 1 button, 1 buckle and pocket flaps although not necessarily in the same place.

I gave up on the VPN remote eventually yesterday and resorted to the half remote stuff with the dongle through my own machine. Strangely enough I could get to everything except the XT Gui on SAP and Uperform on my computer, and with the other computer I could get Uperform program, but I couldn't get the two of them to work together. However I did manage to sit in the sun and get some editing done and some more writing. The day wasn't a total waste but not a lot of any great impact got achieved.
It was a glorious day out there yesterday and is shaping up for more of the same today. The temps at night are starting to dip which allows for a good nights sleep and there is dew on the grass in the mornings. Must be winter. We only get two seasons here, warm days and cool nights, and hot all the time. Gotta love winter. Given the opportunity, I would like to spend my winters here and my summers anyplace else but the tropics.
I need to start thinking about my forthcoming training trip around Central Queensland. I'll be away for nearly a month and I need to get some new workwear and steel cap boots. I have most of the stuff necessary, but new trousers might be required since I seem to have outgrown that stuff I have. So it is off to the workwear shop soon to see what I can see.

Ellen - sorry to hear you are getting a cold. Hope it isn't too severe

Not sure who soon2bsexy is but hello anyway.

Happy - not content with telephone tag - we now have facebook tag as well Probably I got waylaid with something else because I found your return messages later.

Michelle - Sounds like a nice plan to have planter boxes under the tree. I've thought about a wooden seat around my tree in the front yard, but the angles would defeat me. My maths aren't that good. I have no problem with your program of doing things as long as you don't push that back too hard. Sometimes things just have to hurt to do some good (refer Laura's arse) and the trick is to be able to judge good hurt and bad.

Annie - looked up the candles. They're nice. Pity I don't have a sniffing computer screen. I think we will be going out to dinner but not sure yet. Maybe nothing, maybe something, maybe happy mothers day tossed over the shoulder as out they go to hi jinx somewhere

Laura - one button is better than no button. Vegetables are gross feeders and need constant water and fertiliser as you know. I think that is why some of those hanging tomato things don't grow as well as expected - because we forget that they need food.

Ceejay - hope you have a nice 'dry' weekend. Isn't there enough water around already. Sure hope this weather pattern settles down somewhere in the world soon.

So another day dawns. I need to go to the nursery and get some more plants and some hose on spray fertilser and then I should mow the lawns and get some more blocks for the block wall and maybe spray some of the weeds down the side of the hose. Thanks to the wet season, we have weeds sprouting everywhere. Seize this day and make the most of it.

Good morning ladies,

Weekend here at last - so many things to do. And on top of them I now have a new task - get the files off my old computer on on to the new laptop. Also I am done with WW and will be cancelling my WW online after years and years. I am just wasting the $17 a month fee because I don't like the new Points Plus program or the older Momentum programs. I made a committment to myself earlier in the year - if I didn't go back on the program by the end of March - cancel it out. Before I do though I want to go in an grab some of my recipes and also some weigh in history.

Thank goodness it's stopped raining here. The flood waters are rising rapidly, the Mississippi river is supposed to crest at 48 to 50 feet by Thursday I think - flood stage is 34 feet. They have not mandated evacuations yet but have sent notices to people most likely to be affected so that they can take precautionary measures now or be prepared to leave at a moment's notice. And it's not just a factor of the weather here - all the rain up north, every thing that feeds into the Mississippi as it flows south to the Gulf of Mexico is coming down this way. The real problems are more north of us near the Wolf River and downtown from the Mississippi. They even moved the World Famous BBQ contest next weekend to a different place as they think the venue will be under water as the entrants arrive. Tornadoes, floods, excessive heat and humidity - I think I will be glad to leave this place.

I was thinking this week that I really have to put the pedal to the metal and get my act together on getting this house sorted out. I am starting to forget that I have another house I'm supposed to be working on moving into!

There is some drama with my Momma coming to visit here. She can only bring a carry on suitcase which only needs to contain some underwear, her pills and a few pairs of pants. I have plenty of t-shirts, sweaters, jackets, socks and all sorts of personal care items and notions for her to use. In fact she likes riffling through my closets looking for t-shirts of mine to confiscate. But only the ones that are too small and tight for me as she is fond of telling my sister and I how we are so much bigger than her It is said not to be mean, it's the way she says it and yes Mom, we know that we are a bigger size than you Anyway the point is that she really doesn't need to bring that much with her, she can use my washing machine every day if she likes - and she loves to use it for some reason - yet she is fretting that she will not be able to get what she needs into a suitcase that measures 45 inches total. I even cleared it with my sister that if need be, she can ship some items to me ahead of time. Mom is at my sister's for the weekend - poor thing is the one who has to deal with the 2 year old tantrum for the moment because when Mom gets fixated on something - look out!!!

Now for personals...

Annie - that Floral Crackle glass is just incredibly beautiful! What a nice gift!!! It's funny but I think that Sissy will have a whole new layer when it comes to Mom's Day now - not that she didn't love you over the top in the first place. Next year will be the most awesome one ever - "Mom it's MY BABY - can I please hold her for a while and stop kissing her - you will kiss her face off" Oh and have the most wonderful fabulous time at the Bob Seger concert. Clap extra hard for me when he plays Turn the Page - one of my all time favorite songs.

Mel - I think that's a great idea to do a 5k on the pedals. Why not? Gives you a measurable goal to work to. Let me know when you are close to here but don't forget to change into rain boots first I hope those electrical tingles in the neck went away - kind of like the neck "clunk" one can get when they just turn their head - clunk and WHITE HOT PAIN - WTF?????? As to your question about Mr. Feral - no, we will not be taking him when we leave. I can get within about 2 feet of him but he will never let me touch him. He is very old and decrepit and we think he is going blind too so we sort of hope that he kicks the bucket before we leave. If not, as DH said - he is able to figure out how to survive on his own and this is true as we did not see him for 3 months straight the beginning of this year. I thought for sure he had died or been killed when one day - there he is sleeping on a pile of blankets I had outside airing out just like nothing ever happened. He has been hanging around here alot the last 3 weeks. Waits by the front door every morning for his breakfast, comes by at night for a second feeding. DH said he is sleeping in our storage shed right now.

Shad - sounds like you will be dressing like one of the miners for your next stint - steel toed boots, "work" and we're not talking dress pants. Do you get a hard hat too? What an interesting work environment you have. You have all the annoyances we do but your background scenery is quite different. Sounds like you are headed into the best part of the weather year - that's how I feel about spring and fall on this side of the pond. I guess the worst part of it all is that it's the end of the season for the garden or will you be planting lettuces and cooler loving veggies?

Hi Ellen - hope you make it through the weekend.

Michelle - that's funny about the Viagra - jokes and all The same thing was true of the Wellbuterin (sp?) I took when I quit smoking. It's an antidepressant but they found it helped people quit the cigs. Probably because it makes everything taste wierd and it made the cigarette not bad tasting but not satisfying either. And they came across it by chance - much like the Viagra. I hope it does well for Mischief. I'm glad you think the massage is helping. I know exactly the kind you are talking about and I absolutely hate them. Wouldn't hurt any less if you just grabbed a big club and beat the knots out of me. No THANKS sister!!! Frankly I think some of these masseuses (?) go at it just a little too hard - kind of like the dental hygenists who are very enthusiastic about cleaning your teeth I think you will be glad that you guys go to the build a retaining wall class. There are some tricks to levelling the bricks and building something that will withstand the ground settling, the wet seasons and look as good 5 years from now as it does when you first put it in. I'm sure it will look so pretty around the trees. We started putting a facing around the front, never got to complete it - another "to do".

Ceejay - I agree with being leary of the one lane bridge. The way things are going waters can rise in a few hours - you don't want to be stuck. And although it was supposed to be sunny, it looks like rain here after all - and it looks rather stormy up your way. Be safe!

Laura - if you leave your coat with one button and one buckle - you will always know it's your coat and will be able to block and tackle anyone who tries to steal it from you We tried the upside down tomato thing last year - got alot of green but not enough flowers. Also it dries out really really fast - we found we had to water it twice a day. And tomatoes need 7 to 8 hours of full on sun each day. Anything less and they won't grow that well. The grape and cherry tomatoes are less fussy but the big ones are. For us that means we can only grow tomatoes in a pot up by the pool were we can move the pot to get the most sun as the season builds. Last year I decided just to buy tomatoes from a roadside stand or farmers market. My cousin in Wisconsin said he recycled some buckets and used those as upside down planters and had good luck with them. Perhaps because the buckets were a lighter color and sturdier than the flimsy green plastic the store bought upside down hangers. I'll bet they held the water better too. You are doing awesome girl on your exercise - congrats to you!

Speaking of exercise - I'd better get off my duff and get busy around here. Tomorrow we have an interupted day of returning some things to Kohls and Lands End and I finally want to go and get some eye glasses before mine fall apart. Leaving the house - if only for a few hours - really messes up my momentum.

Happy Mothers Day to all you fine ladies. Those will human kids and those of us with fur babies. Have a great weekend!

Hi Girls...just so excited to go to Bob Seger tonight!!!!!!!

Happy...trust me...later on down the road...you WILL cherish all the craziness that your momma puts you through now. I so miss all the crazy my momma put me through.....Happy Momma's day momma...God rest your soul... Turn the Page is MY VERY FAV of Bob Seger....as many others...Down on Mainstreet....

Chellzer...do you ever wonder way birth control for women is covered on insurance but viagra is not covered for men...they gotta know when the men finally need it they are not looking at having kids anymore anyways...

Shaddie...oh kewl...new shoes...even if they are work boots with steal toes...lol...I love new shoes...see if they come with heals...lol Enjoy your mother's day, my dear...they had better make it special for you..or they will be dragged through Annie 101.

MELLIE....yep that is the design...Sam got me two of what you have pictured...a taller one for a center piece on coffee table then the odd shaped tall one with one side lower than the other....a box of tea light candles. A huge candle to find in the coffee table one, then a votive to fit in the odd shapped one....the smell is so enticing....soft...not overpowering, mellowing. Me thinks, you all would like it. Pink Sands...

Took dad to dinner last night at Joe's Crab Shack...I am not too fond of it but they actually had a shrimp salad that was quite tasty....dad got fish and chips..you know deep fried, FAT....his favorite. Spent some time with dad at the house then came home. The rain did NOT come in as they said and I got about half of my rock spread around where I wanted it. Still have a bit to get done...didn't come inside til 9pm, went to be at 9:30...pooped.

Much Love and Many Hugs...momma's....

GOOD MORNING WORLDLIES!! SUN IS SHINING AND ALL IS RIGHT IN MY CORNER OF THE WORLD FOR A CHANGE

I WAS ON A ROLL YESTERDAY TOSSING OUT OLD & DATED ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES, CORDS AND ACCESSORIES. GUESS IT'S THE CONFIDENCE OF HAVING A NEW PC THAT ACTUALLY WORKS RIGHT. SO I GAVE BACK THE 2 OLD OFFICE PCS. BOTTOM OF THE CLOSET NOW HOLDS MY SHOPPING BAGS AND RADIATORS. THE HOUSE IS LOOKING SPIFFIER AND THE BEDROOM IS NOT CLOGGED UP.
RICHIE IS DOING THE COOKING AND HE'S MAKING A ROASTED CHICKEN. I HAVE THE SALAD MIXING TO DO AND JEN'S DOING THE VEGGIES.
THE WEEKEND SO FAR IS QUIET EXCEPT FOR ONE TENANT WHO FORGOT TO TAKE HIS PROZAC. I'VE NEVER SEEN HIM SO FRIGGING DITZY!! ONE OF THE MAINT. MEN WAS AFRAID TO LEAVE ME ALONE WITH HIM IN THE HALL
BUT HE WAS HARMLESS....JUST SILLY.

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY AND HOPE THE SUN IS OUT IN YOUR TOWN TOO!

HAPPY....I REALLY KNEW YOU WEREN'T TAKING THE CAT. OUTDOOR CATS ARE VERY ADAPT TO FINDING THE PEOPLE THAT WILL HELP THEM. LOL PROFESSIONAL BEGGARS. I WAS JUST WATCHING THE WEATHER CHANNEL AND SAW THE SANDBAGS BEING LAID DOWN FROM YESTERDAY'S FOOTAGE. IT'S HORRIBLE HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE KILLED AND THOSE WHO LOST THIER HOMES. STAGGERING FIGURES FOR STORMY WEATHER. VERY SAD. FUNNY YOU SHOULD SAY SOMETHING ABOUT GETTING READY FOR THE NEW HOME...I WAS GOING TO REMIND YOU TODAY TO PUT DOWN THE LAPTOP AND KEEP PACKING POOR MOM....MAYBE TRAVELING IS BECOMING TOO MUCH. THEY SOMETIMES COME UP WITH THE ZANIEST EXCUSES BUT AFTER THEY GET WHERE THEY'RE GOING THEY HAVE A GREAT TIME. THE FRETTING THAT DRIVES FAMILIES NUTS YOUR POOR SISTER!!! LOL GOOD FOR YOU LETTING THE WW MEMBERSHIP GO AND STOCKING UP ON RECIPES. A FRIEND OF MINE JUST PRINTED A WHOLE BUNCH OF THEM OUT FOR SAFEKEEPING. WHEN WILL YOU HEAR ABOUT THE SCAN????

ANNIE...I SAW THE SLANTED TOP HOLDER...THEY WERE ALL GORGEOUS. I LOVE YANKEE CANDLE ITEMS BUT CAN'T TAKE THE SCENTS IN MY HOUSE. I CAN ONLY BURN A CANDLE FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES. ANYWAY....YOUR GIFTS ARE BEAUTIFUL FROM YOUR DAUGHTER! I SAW THE PINK SANDS THERE TOO...WISH WE HAD "SMELL-A-PC"!!! DINNER WITH DAD SOUNDED DELISH...I WOULD HAVE PICKED DAD'S CHOICE TOO!! YUMMO!! I THINK WE BOTH HIT THE SACK EARLY. GLAD YOU GOT TO GET SOME ROCKS SORTED OUT. ENJOY YOUR DAY!!

Morning all. Before I forget: Happy Mother's Day to everyone!!

Michelle - Funny that Mischief's med is the same as the "blue pill", but it's interesting how they discover alternative uses for these drugs. Happy to hear your vet say M's life expectancy likely won't be shortened. Yeh, those deep tissue massages can be harsh and not relaxing, but if it's helping you, that's good. So, did you fill up that new freezer?? Now that we have that Costco membership again, I find myself wanting to go just to eat some of their cheap and junky cafe food, LOL. So far I've resisted. How was the retaining wall-building class??

Ellen - Hope you're feeling okay and dh's cold didn't hit you too hard!! Hope work is quiet this weekend. :

Shad - You mean you don't already have steel-toed boots?! Actually, I do have a pair - one of my assignments in my past life required them. Still sitting on the basement shelf.

Mel - Glad to hear all (most) is quiet at the moment. Good for you clearing out the closet. Sitting here in the home office an it's so depressing - stuff on the floor everywhere. Sigh.

Annie - How was the Seger concert? Glad your dad enjoyed his fish & chips at Joe's.

Happy - Hope all the drama w/ your mom's upcoming visit passes and you get to enjoy your time w/ her. Good to end the ww subscription if you're not using it. Bf has had a Bally's President's membership forever - since it was Chicago Health Club, actually. He now pay's $14/month and never uses it because the facility 2 miles from us is such an outdated mess. I told him he should use the nicer one in Schaumburg instead. Will he? Probably not, except for when the odd and rare moment of inspiration hit him. What a waste of money!!

I heard about people going door to door w/ warnings about the rising waters - I hope your area doesn't get hit w/ flooding.

Hello to Ceejay! Hope you're navigating the flooded areas w/ great caution!!

Friday night bf & I ate dinner at Famous Dave's bbq - and neither of us ate bbq, LOL - he had wings & I had their chicken rice soup. It was near to the store where we were buying bf's mom the little bistro set for her patio. After we bought it, it was getting a bit late and when we phoned bf's mother, she was already in bed. So we went to her place and stealthily assembled the table (chairs were ready to go) outside, and set them up on her patio. Of course her nosy neighbor had come home from the movies and wanted to know what we were doing and for whom - we figured the surprise might be ruined by her, but no - bf's mother was surprised when she opened her patio blinds the next morning.

I went to bed with a pain in my right ear and woke up w/ it Saturday morning. Skipped the exercise class and took a zyrtec along w/ my usual allergy med - I think too much fluid is building up in my head even though my sinuses aren't bothering me (my eyes are another matter, however). Also took some ibuprofen for the pain. Got over to the annual plant sale at our little conservatory nearby, but there were almost no perennials and nothing else struck my fancy, so I left empty-handed.

I stopped at the supermarket afterwards, however, and ended up buying plants from them, LOL. Four geraniums, a grape tomato plant and some cherry tomato plants. Still need some more flowers for my hanging pots, and some types of peppers for the veg garden - will go to a big box store for that. Doesn't sound like an upside down planter is the way to go, so I'll plan on planting the tomatoes in the ground.

Did nothing the rest of yesterday except the dog's walk - I was rather lethargic the whole day and snoozed on and off on the sofa. Hate that. Waste of my precious weekend.

Today bf's mom is coming for Sunday dinner. Going to relax a bit and then do some spiffing up around the house. Bf is in charge of the meal.

Okay, off to take a zyrtec and brew some tea.
