Hi Ladies.......

I'M BACK!!!!!!!!!! I had a wonderful time in Kentucky, and as you know Joanna and Tim were in Florida. They did arrive home Monday evening around 8pm. We visited a little then and they went home to unpack and then to bed..... Got up the next morning...... actually Joanna was sitting on my bedside and woke me up...... that was so cool..... we visited and got ready to come home.... that was a bummer.... she says HI to everyone and she misses you guys.... but she is in love and works midnights so it is very hectic for her during her waking daylight hours.... she is dieting, (had gained some) and has lost about 20 pounds since she has been charting her weight loss.... our mom also joined WW last year and went the 12 week program and lost some and she is also "watching" and journaling her foods.... so its a tough road for all of us but we are doing it slowly..... :^:

Things are good at work, nothing exciting to really report about me, now that I am at home. I am looking forward to a trip to Myrtle Beach with mom, me, Joanna and Tim over the Labor Day week-end, which will be the next sister fix......:D

..... then mom, dad and my Aunt Rose are planning a trip to Memphis and Nashville.... gonna to the counrty thing and visit Elvis' mansion and all that Memphis has to offer.... thats in October, can't wait for that one!!!!!

Everyone is welcome for the Taps, I received it as an e-mail from a friend and wanted to share it. I've never been to Arlington Cemetary in Washington D.C. but I do have an uncle buried there (mom's older brother) and I would like to go one day. I too cried when I read it and everytime I "think about" Taps being played.

I am off to bed now.... so everyone stick to your guns and be aware of what you eat tomorrow.... make a point to ask yourself if you really want that junk food.... and I'll do the same.... take one meal at a time.... good luck ladies... and be good....

Love ya.... Carolyn

YOOOOHOOOO!!!!! Is anyone here?

Wow, it's pretty quiet in here! Come on ladies .... come out come out wherever you are.....

I do hope that all of you had a nice holiday weekend and took time out to thank those that fought for this country.

Well, I blew it today. I tried hard to stay OP but I blew it. I went up to hang out with my Mom and I just blew it. Happens everytime I go to visit. Oh well, tomorrow is another low carb kind of day.

I was wondering about Gail ... has anyone heard from her? Gail if you're lurking out there ... WE MISS YOU!!!

A big hello to everyone!

Getting late, need to get all the beauty sleep I can get!!!:D

Later!

Sylvia

Quick check in...

Went out last night and blew the dieting thing I was doing so well on for a couple days. Oh well. Just one time and I'm back on track now.

Going to the gym again tonight and can't wait. Huh? Who said that!?!? :?: Yep, I'm hooked. Not doing much on the scale but I just feel better. Think I'll try for an extra 5 minutes on the elliptical machine tonight. Maybe even backwards!! Wish me luck.

Still can't go in our "almost-kitchen". Don't want to walk on the floor until we're sure the tile glue is completely set. Then we get to grout. Still no retrieving the lab coat trapped in the basement laundry room. :( But this weekend will be a busy one.

Bought a little drawer unit at Home Depot and decided to try my hand at assembling it. Poor thing!!!! Rich will be spending this evening reassembling. Darn instructions written in Japanese!

Getting really bummed about the slow forum here. I know I'm guilty of staying away too long. But I'm going to try to check in more often. Miss you guys!!!!!

Have some big (well big for me ;) ) news but will post next time ... if anyone wants me to.......

Have to run now. Love you guys!
Jo.

Hi everyone! I'm back after a few days of R&R. Went to Calgary for the weekend plus a few days that hubby was attending a conference. We were able to get up to Banff for a day to do some hiking, and of course get into the hot springs. Then went to a jazz & blues bar for the evening and most of the night. Had a great time.

The OT that we have been working the last few months paid off. Hubby won an award at the conference he attended for the program that he has written. He was surprised, and, of course delighted that it was recognized internationally as leading edge. He is also using part of it as his research for his thesis, so has a few more weeks of OT, then things will ease off for a while. Maybe, just maybe, I can get some work done around the house. :D

Anyway, after the story about where we were, I thought I should drop in to say that I thought ia had blown the food plan thing completely and totally. However, I have only gained 1 pound. Now I'm pumped because I am feeling like I am getting to the point that I am actually able to manage holiday times without going overboard.

I subscribe to a daily weight loss tip and thought that I would share the one that I received this morning. I didn't save it, so this is my version of what it says:

The lady writing the article went to an all day gathering where the event started with a buffet breakfast. There was some meeting before lunch and the group then went to a restaurant for lunch. At the breakfast and lunch, she noticed that there were a number of skinny people who were the biggest eaters at both meals and that they ate whatever they wanted in the amounts that they wanted. She was surprised because they were not young people with high metabolisms, but older people that should have been showing signs of slowing metabolisms. When she inquired about their eating habits, they informed her that they would go home and have a light supper, and also watch their food intake for the next few days. They had also planned for the event ahead of time by cutting down on their food before the event. They had planned, in advance, to enjoy the day.

The long of the this story is that I am finding the planning essential in the whole food scheme. This past weekend, I didn't hesitate to eat the things that I wanted when we were out dining, but I did watch my food intake when it was possible. I also cut back before the holiday and will back OP today. I am finding this the easy way to enjoy special events, but not beat myself up over going off program. It is getting easier, so just hang in there, everyone. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Hope everyone is doing well and that you enjoyed the holiday weekend. I have to run...work is calling (actually 3 days work is calling). Take care.

Good Day Ladies, I finally have time to post. I have read all of #81 but need to go back to #80 because there are things I know I've missed. I don't have any good news to report except that I still am here. I almost have my school year over and it's always very stressful. Maybe a couple more days and I will be off until the 3rd week in July. My plans are to do nothing! I am very good at that! I plan (hopefully) to move this big " " around some. I've stopped what little exercise I was doing, unlike Jo I never fell in love with it. I too considered giving up WW classes but I don't think I have that much willpower. I have gained the last 2 weeks and that was with going to class. Can you imagine what I would do if I didn't go to class!!!!!!

Sharon- so glad to hear from you. I was beginning to think you had dropped off the face of the earth. Welcome back.

CJ e-mail follows soon. I need a painter are you available. I will buy extra paint.

Blunder- I am very proud of you. You are doing well. I know it seems slow to you but to me, everytime I read the post your numbers are smaller. Good job.

I will close now and hopefully be back more often now. Love to you all, Carolyn

Just checking in! We are still up at the cabin and have been very busy - have had a alot of company in the last couple weeks. Right now I am in the process of painting cabinets but stopped to come in and see what's going on and say hello. I am doing pretty good with doing WW on my own ... was down 1 lb on my weigh-in day on Thursday ... have been journaling faithfully except for 3 days - I totally missed but am right back on track!

Well, after being a blonde all my life - sometimes a little "lighter" than normal - I took the plunge and am now a REDHEAD!!!! When I went in for my haircut/trim I told my girlfriend that I wanted something totally different - I wanted red hair! It's a little darker than I wanted, but that can be corrected. I'm having a hard time getting used to it (scares me when I look in the mirror- lol) but I like it and so far, so does everyone else (after they get over the shock)! Even hubby likes it he says. I just had it done Thursday so no one in my family except hubby has seen me yet .... cuz we just went back home on Wednesday to do errands and banking and pick up mail, then came right back up here after my hair appt on Thursday. I'll have to take a picture and put it up for you all to see ...

Well, back to work for me ... I'll check back in later.

Love, CJ

Hi Carolyn - we must have been posting at the same time! I'll be looking for my email - and don't worry about the gain - you will be ok! DO NOT GIVE UP!

Love, CJ

PS: Sorry, I don't hire out for painting - believe me, you would be so sorry ... lol .. it's not my favorite thing to do, but I do like the results afterwards (after I get the paint off me first!)

HEY EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!

Happy Saturday!!! ......and a beautiful day it has been here in Michigan......

Just checking in..... but I am having problems with my e-mail and even getting on this site...... I've been trying for a couple of hours and still no e-mail and finally am able to post..... computers!! what a crock sometimes...... hehe.... just teasing.... I am not sure what I would do without mine or the one at work..... hehe..... but they can be a pain in the butt sometimes....

I am doing good.... weight not going down but not going up either..... which is a good thing.... steady as she goes is good too sometimes..... went to Duggans last night in Royal Oak to celebrate with the birthday club I have been in at work for several years now.... (we celebrate with no desserts!!!!! hehe) of course everyone has a beer or a drink or two.... I don't drink alcohol so I was a good girl and ordered a "Honey Almont Chicken Salad" not knowing what it was going to be..... boy it was wonderful, fresh fruit all around a chuckie chicken salad on a bed of fresh greens, not just iceburg lettuce..... what a wonderful salad it was, brought half of it home with me and ate it today for lunch..... everyone else ordered the "Small Chief Burger" with fries or onion rings.... needless to say everyone couldn't believe my salad and were really disappointed in their burgers.... so a good choice for me it was..... :smug:

Go WINGS!!!!! Everyone may have heard that the Detroit Red Wings beat the Colorado Avalanche hockey team..... GO WINGS!!!!! We sat at the pub last night and watched it... what a wonderful game it was!!!! Onto the cup now.... :D

I went and bought flowers this morning to plant in my pots that are on the back patio... $110.00 later... :o gees..... and those are for the pots not whats in the ground.... luckily I have everything in the ground that comes up each year and don't have to bother with those..... I still need to purchase 4 hanging baskets to hang on the shepard hooks in the flower beds.... and I still need to plant those that I bought.... I need to get crackin don't I? I love doing this kind of thing but its just getting started.... Haven't felt the best today and need to clean house tomorrow and do laundry..... so one night this week I'll be planting.... hopefully...... hehe

I am reading the posts and posting just to get in the habit of doing so.... I know I have been lacking in this department so am grateful that things are kind of slow around here right now... hehe..... sorry but I am.... my speed..... slow and steady.... and unreliable..... hehe ;)

I am going to close now and say good night..... be good everyone.....

Love to all...... Carolyn

Hello everyone!

Just popping in for a quick hello - taking a little break from painting - doing the kitchen cabinets in the cabin today - almost done! Yesterday I planted flowers so between bending and kneeling with the planting and painting my back and leggs are so sore!

Still journaling faithfully - well, almost faithfully - missed a few days last week - in fact, I will be posting on our food journal thread in a little while ... anyone care to join Peggy and I? Carolyn??? Sharon??? (where are you anyway!) Anyone??? Jello??? It's good to see what you are eating, and it helps to have others see also! Keeps you in line!

OK ... going to have my cup of green tea now .. talk to you later...

Love, CJ

Jello 06-04-2002 09:43 AM

Well, for the first time, I "wimped out" of going to the gym yesterday. Just didn't feel like it. :( Hope this isn't the start of a trend. Come on girls!!! Kick me in the b**t!!!!!! I'm going to go tonight, I promise.

I've been really really bad eating-wise lately. Just can't seem to stop sometimes. Maybe I really should go back to WW or some other program?? I really don't want to. Got on the scale and almost cried. But I'm hoping it's a little muscle building up instead of fat. When I joined the gym, they measured me (thighs, arms, waist, etc.) and said I can come back in 3 months and get measured again. I'm hoping for something good but I don't see any change in the full-length mirror. :( Maybe I have to not look for a while and then come back??

OK, enough of my rambling. Last post, I said I had some big news and asked if anyone wanted me to post it but I guess no one does.... :s: Oh well. I'll just keep it to myself then....

Have to go now. One thing I'll never stop doing is drinking all this water so you can guess where I have to go now. ;)

Talk to you again!
Love, Jo.

sweet tooth 06-04-2002 10:43 AM

Hi everyone. I haven't posted for a bit...just in a BIG funk and can't seem to get out of it. The good part is that I have not gained too much weight. Just kinda maintaining. It still makes me feel guilty because I want to lose another 10 pounds. I really need to change the attitude, I think.

Jo - Good to hear from you. I know what you mean about whimping out of the gym. I was so good for a while, then worked a lot of OT for a while. This was a good excuse to stay in bed in the morning and not go to the gym. Well...we didn't get back in the routine. However, our hot water tank went kaput last weekend, so I (HE went to Calgary this week) have to shower at work until the new one is installed this weekend. Might as well do the workout before the shower.

AND, I want to hear the big news. If noone else wants to hear, you can send me a pm. :D

By the way, you must hear about my counter tops. We had new counter tops installed in the kitchen. Two weeks later, hubby and I went away for a week and the kidlets, who were supposed to look after the house while we were away, had a party. I returned to find a burn mark on my counter and several cut marks. (I wan't very happy). :) Anyway, after reading your post about putting ceramic on your counter tops, I decided to put ceramic on the top of my new counter tops. I also decided that the island in the kitchen needs to be bigger, so have disassembled it and it is now laying in a heap on the kitchen floor. Just a surprise for hubby when he gets back. The ceramic has turned out really well, and I think that I will put an oak trim on the edges. Have you got your grouted yet?

CJ - Sounds like you are getting a lot of spring fixing up done at the cabin. Sorry to hear that you don't hire out for painting. I know a place where there is a lot to do.

I haven't been journalling very faithfully. Sort of hit and miss for me right now. I haven't gained any weight - kind of up and down a few pounds all the time, but still maintaining my weight under 130 pounds, which is my present goal. Maybe in a few months I will make a concerted effort to lose the rest of the weight that I want, but right now that isn't too important for me. I will continue to journal with you when I can, though. It really helps me maintain balance during the week, then I don't have to be so disciplined on the weekends.

Carolyn - Hi. Good to hear that you are doing well. I envy you the flower planting. It has been so cold here, that we haven't been able to get out in the yard. Finally got the lawn cleaned up and fertilized last weekend, but I have decided not to plant flowers this year. It's just too late. Most of the annuals that I plant go in flower boxes that are installed on the deck. Since we need to paint the deck this year and replace some of the rotting wood on the flower boxes, I have decided to leave the flower planting for this year. We are also having a water shortage, so have been restricted to watering outdoors only once a week. Our day is Wednesday, and we are not generally home that day, so that also contributes to not planting flowers. Hope everything goes well for you. Takce care.

I guess I should go. Found out yesterday that another department has been added to the portfolio at work. Involves about 30 more employees. Need to go to get some organizational work done. :(

Have a great week.

CH 06-04-2002 04:55 PM

Jo, I have been haunting the posts waiting for your big news. I guess I forgot to say YES I want to hear it. I know it has to be something big. Let's hear it, girl!!

Peggy, I think a lot of us are in a big funk, but we're not staying there. Get a grip girl, you are so close to your goal. Please don't give up. You all, (the forum) is what's keeping me going. I am the last one to encourage you to exercise, as I hate doing it myself. But I do know that's the answer. That's what it takes but it sure is easy for me to say "I'll do it tomorrow." Don't be like me you are to close to success!!

Well I did go WI today and even though I lost 2.2 lbs, I realize thats just part of the 6.6 lbs I've gained recently. I was in the middle of mowing my grass when I realized its WW time. Threw on a clean shirt, changed shoes and flew to my meeting. I weighed in and left to finish mowing. They probably had to fumigate the room when I left. The temp here today is 91 degrees so I know I smelled ripe!

Have a meeting shortly, will be back soon. Love, Carolyn

CJ 06-04-2002 10:21 PM

Evening everyone ~ another quick post before turning in - this up north air sure makes a person more tired! Rainy day today so hubby and I took a long ride and ended up in St Ignas at the casino! I won us some money - only $130 but hey - I'm happy.

Sorry not posting to anyone personally - I am really tired .... congrats to all who lost lbs (Carolyn) and to all who are in a funk (Jo and Peggy) hope you get out of it soon! I certainly know how that feels!

I'll try to post again tomorrow - have some more painting to do - if it is not raining again ...

Sorry this is so short ... just wanted to check in real quick ... better than nothing, eh?

Later ...
Love, CJ

CJ 06-04-2002 10:22 PM

OH - sorry JO ~ Yes, I do want to hear about your news too!

CJ

CJ 06-04-2002 10:25 PM

OK - one more thing .... I'm off to start a new thread! So STOP ! do not post any more here - go to the next # - I think it will be #82???
