Default Steel Magnolias #46

Good morning all. We too, got right into the voting, though I forgot my reading glasses. I stepped up to the machine and it said "large print" so there you go, I was safe! I sure hope the people in this country can live with what they have done. There is going to be less money in their pockets that is for sure. It is over and done with and we move on to the next thing, I guess.

Susan: Sounds like a good Thanksgiving plan. I love grilled cheese and tomato soup, like to dunk it! lol You will have a lovely time. Thanksgiving is all about being thankful and I know that there is much sorrow not having your sweet Stan with you, but I know you are thankful his suffering has come to an end and thankful you have good friends to be with you and you with them. All your good buddies are here at the site to give you encouragement if you get a bit down!

Jean: I have leaves everywhere and they need to be blown out to the corner for the landscapers to bag and clean up, but I keep waiting for them all to fall off so I don't have to do it twice. I have one tree but it has a ton of leaves on it. I may just have to tackle it next week though as it is getting the better of me. I wore myself out cleaning stuff yesterday. I dragged the two shelving units upstairs and ended up having to stack them so no seating, but that was ok. I just put the cushions in the cupboard and they can be used to take to the ballpark or something. I did the cleaning and was pleasantly surprised by the handheld shower and how easy it was to rinse the tiles off. Jack did a good job too, no leaks! I threw all my sweaters into the spare room (I must have 100 of the things, sheesh) and will work on them this morning then set about and cleaned out all three under the sink cupboards, plus both drawers and moved all the stuff into the hall linen closet that was holding my sweaters. I had enough room to put all the cleaning supplies too, so I moved the old towels under the sink. We use those for dying my hair and clean ups and paints and stuff. So once again that is all neat. I still have a ways to go, but it will all get done eventually.

Maggie: You know, Maggie, if more friends and family would stick together in times of trouble, this country wouldn't need all their social programs, which were never intended to be used like they are anyway. I have always said it is the reponsibility of your family and extended family, friends, and church to help when the chips are down, but folks don't go to church like they used to and with the way the world is, more bickering then helping seems to occur. The Bible set up a good plan that we don't follow. Christ said for us to give not only our shirt, but our coat too, but we barely give a button. I point back to me as much as anyone else, but I do help out my family when I have the money or resources to do so and that includes the outer relatives.

I think we are in for another warm day around here as the house is pretty comfortable and not needed heat nor ac to keep it so. It will lower the bills anyway.

Well, I want to check the results on the bazillion city referendums we had. Take care and have a great day today!

Arrow Happy Humpday

GOOD MORNING MY MAGNOLIA CYBER FRIENDS

It is going to be a 70ish day here in the Heartland and windy. Yep we get the wind here ~ Guess that is what keeps the place looking so clean for it gets wind swept. I am going to do some glass work this day. I haven't been at my work station the past few days when I was having that cold. I have a house cut out and need to get it finished. We are so happy the gas prices are still under two dollars.

DONNA You are the Clean Queen for sure. Sweaters! WOW you may also be the Sweater Queen Maybe what has been happening to our dear nation will bring folks back to church. It is one of the churches jobs to help the people not the governments programs. Our government is broke so I don't imagine too many programs will get much help now. Oh but taxes could be raised to cover the cost, that's the answer ~ raise taxes. We'll see what happens. Yep ~ wait and see now. This is a wake up call.

SUSAN I too love tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches and pickles ~ nice juicy dills. Maybe I just planned my lunch. I have some high fiber bread in the box which is two pieces for one point which would work for the grilled cheese sand. Will doesn't like tomato soup but he loves the sandwiches and never minds if I have the soup. It is good that you do make plans to be with friends especially during the holidays. Isn't it wonderful to have friends like that.

JEAN I imagine school before the holidays is rather squirley. Do keep your good humor and don't let those kids get under your skin. Do ahead turkey ~ Now that's a thought. I am trying to decide how big a bird we need to get. With this wind I don't think Will is going to smoke a breast. Those are so good when he does that. Maybe it will die down in time and we can have that and a roaste bird. I love those bags to cook in don't you.

I am going now to do something constructive. Type at ya'all later

Good morning, ladies. Looks like the rain may be stopping soon.

Virginia had a 90% turnout of registered votes - unheard of! I think the number for the whole country is 64%. Regardless of how the election turned out, I'm glad to see people take part in the process. The country can't get in much worse shape than we are now with the recession and 2 wars.

Gas was $1.95 today. I never thought it would get under $3 let alone $2. I am thankful.

Maggie, like everything, quilting is popular or less popular, but it never dies out. There is just something that says love when you wrap up in a quilt someone has made for you.

Jean, Horray for your long Thanksgiving weekend. Hopefully they will be able to give some direction to the special ed teacher and get the class under control.

Faye, don't overdo the cleaning! You want to be feeling good when the family comes. If you would like to read a really, really funny book, I highly recommend "On Strike for Christmas" by Sheila Roberts. It's about a knitting group that decides to go on strike for Christmas and let their husbands do everything they do for the holidays. It made me laugh out loud. And there are some good recipes at the end.

Good Evening, Flowers! It is thundering pretty loudly right now and the rain drops have begun. The white stuff might show up Friday evening but no accumulation says the wise weatherman. It's still windy and the trees are almost bare. It was so dark this afternoon I felt like it was time for bed when I got home from school. I'm ready for the weekend!

"Gma" -- I'm sure your house will be squeaky clean and ultra organized by the time your company arrives. You have lots of sweaters!

Maggie -- Our gas went up 17 cents this morning! You have mentioned that you like the baking bags. I never remember to buy them until I'm ready to put the meat in the oven. We got our Thanksgiving invitation today. I thought perhaps MIL would also be invited to go along, but not so. I'm not sure she would want the drive time and sitting around for a few hours. I assume she will be with us for Christmas.

Susan -- Our gas went up overnight. We buy the grandchildren I bonds for birthdays and Christmas; the interest rate changes Nov. 1st, so we bought in October thinking the interest rate would go down. It went up!

I'm off to decide what I'm wearing tomorrow and then heading off to bed. Have a terrific Thursday tomorrow!

Good morning to you beautiful ladies! I got my regular chores and cleaning finished yesterday and then pooped out! I hope to get some sorting done today.

Jean: My sweaters are different sizes and such and some need to be chucked and others stored, etc. I like sweaters better than shirts or t shirts, actually. I buy them season in and season out. I have long sleeve, short sleeved, and no sleeved! Our gas is at $1.95 Jack said and he said oil went down another 8% so we shall see. Hopefully, it can hold steady and not go flying back up again. At least the kids will save money coming down here. Jay called yesterday and wanted to know if we liked fruit and nuts and I said yes, then said do you need any kitchen stuff like towels or mugs? I said no mugs as we don't drink coffee, but I can always use towels. He said, ok, gotta go and that was it! lol

Maggie: We ordered our turkey yesterday from the bbq place across the street. They do such a wonderful job and all I do is take it all off the bone, put the dark at one end of an aluminum pan and the light at the other, pour in a couple cans of chicken broth and cover with foil, then heat it at Kelly's when we get over there. We did this last year and it came out nice and moist and yummy. Have you guys ever had deep fried turkey? I hear it is good too, but never had it. I ordered a sugared spiral ham precooked so all we have to do is slice it, some cheese balls and sausage logs and some candy goodies from Swiss colony. I plan on getting as much stuff already finished as I can. We can order premade stuff from several places here so I am going to do that to cut down on work.

Susan: I wrote the title down and will see if I can find it on Monday as I am keeping the car. As I said Kelly paid for an overnight stay and meal at the really nice casino on Monday night because Jack has Tuesday off for Veterans Day. We will take off down there right after Jack gets off work.

I need to say a big congratulations to my nephew Caleb, who will become an Eagle scout on December 7th. Wonder if they connected the significance of that? Anyway, we are very proud of him, though we can't go to the ceremony as Jack has no more vacation time and they live in Chicago.

I hear the washer just quit so time to get that stuff in the dryer, get the chicken I crock potted overnight deboned for chicken and noodles, get the dishwasher unloaded and get started on some work. Have a great day gals!

Good morning, ladies. The rain made a comeback. Our gas was down to $1.93 today.

Tonight is my quilting bee and we will be swapping the blocks we have made. Always a good time and good dessert. I'll be having dinner with my friends before the bee.

Faye, Wow, that is really a great attainment for Caleb to become an Eagle Scout. Kids hardly know anything about World War II now so probably have no idea that December 7 is Pearl Harbor Day. I'll be over for chicken and noodles tonight.

Jean, I hope the white stuff stays away for a while longer.

Have a good day!

Talking Thankful Thursday

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS

It is another windy day here in the Heartland. Gas prices dropped overnight from $1.98 to $1.95. Will is out doing some shopping and ole Ragg Mopp and I both opted to stay home. He doesn't like the wind at all. I am going to be doing some soldering after I get through typing this. I have a Victoran two story house cut out and prepared for the next application. It is cream color with orange roof and front door with brown sutters on the windows.

JEAN What in the world made your gas prices go up when the price per barrel went down and has stabalized somewhat. I love those baking bags which do come in a varied number of sizes ~ small to large for turkeys. They make the meat so moist and clean up a whiz. I am cooking a stew even as I type in my crock pot with a crock pot bag and it sure keeps that pot looking like new. Stew will be ready for dinner and everyone is welcome to come on over.

DONNA How convenient to have your turkey place so close. I don't have a clue if we even have a place like that here where I could make a meal like you are doing or you could bet your best booties that I would give it a whirl. Never tried deep frying a bird but hear they are juicy and moist and not a bit greasy which is surprise since they are deep fried. That was quite the trend a few years back and they now have portable fryers that you can take camping or out back or to the beach.

SUSAN Your block swap sounds neat. Do you end up wth blocks made by your friends then put them in a memory quilt? When we get our new iron bed I am thiking on using quilt as a cover with old lace or the battenbirg kind of bed ruffle. I have some hand crochet pillow covers so maybe I should find a hand crochet bed ruffle. It is fun plannig and by the time I actually get what I want I really want it.

OK now I am off to build a house. Type a ya'll later

Good Evening, Flowers! It's been a windy, rainy, and cold day in my neighborhood. It has rained enough that all of the leaves are stuck together. I'm hoping it will clear off so we can at least mow and bag most of them before the snow flies. Snow flurries are predicted for the weekend, but no accumulation.

I am really frustrated anc crabby with/about school -- more specifically this reading class that I have to help with. The reading teacher had a 2 hour meeting with the principal and the special ed. director this morning. It was suggested that the tables be rearranged so that the reading group cannot see out the door window and students in the hall can't see in. We wasted a study hall period doing that. I am to be "proactive" -- I asked a student to move while the sped director was in the room and he refused. Now I ask you . . . should I take out a gun and shoot him? Turning him in for insubordination does nothing, as no consequence there and no administrative support for any written discipline report. The director ended the meeting by saying she would like to take over the class for a couple days; my comment was to let her have at it for a week and see how she likes it! I have had it with the disrespect and insubordination today! I don't know if it is the weather or what, but the kids as a whole are being bad this week -- behavior and academically both.

Gas went back down to $2.01 on my way to school this morning. I look for grocery prices to take another jump soon.

Enough grumping . . . . I need to pick up my house. I am so ready for the weekend!!!!!!!! Next week I am taking Thursday and Friday as personal days; we are going with another couple to see a Bill Gaither concert. Bob's group sings a lot of their music. Have a fantastic Friday!

Good morning to you all! I get finished here I am getting up and going upstairs and get the sweaters sorted out first thing. Sometimes things don't work out as you want and they didn't yesterday. Let's just say I had a situation where I couldn't carry anything with weight and thought I shouldn't try and push a heavy vacuum either so I will double up on cleaning chores today.

I am rounding out a list for the last of the stocking stuffers. I think I am going to get the little boys some Christmas socks and get the men some funny Christmas boxers, then get everyone but Jackson some chocolate candy and get Jackson something he can eat that is fun. I still have to get the guys one more small thing for their stocking, which I have no clue what to get as they aren't smokers so no lighters, I bought everyone little notepads and matching pens so covered that. I will find something goofy. The ladies have a pair of little slipper mary janes and a nice set of acryllic nail files in a holder. They all have ornaments and their hats.

You should see my computer desk. I have sticky notes down the side, one telling me my cleaning job for the day, the other one says my scale weighs 3 lbs heavy, but across the top I have them strung for dates to pick up the turkey, go to the overnight and T's winter recital. Next to it is a list of the spring type cleaning I am doing and next to it is the book title Susan gave me. I will soon have two more, one with the list of what I have already for their stockings and one of what I want to buy yet. It looks like a restaurant kitchen's order thingy.

Jean: I don't know how you keep doing it year after year girl. It isn't just the unruly students but the fact that the administration won't make them behave and quite frankly from different things you have said, it sounds like they expect you to be miracle teachers and turn these kids into little angels without their help. It's almost an attitude of, if you don't you aren't a good teacher. I would have given up and retired several years ago. I love the Bill Gaither music. I am sure the musical groups that sing at these have changed over the years. There was a quartet of men that used to sing in late 80's and 90's and their group had a single name, like Celebration or something unusual like that. They were absolutely fantastic. I have a CD of them. I like the BG music, but I like the old tight harmony stuff from way back. A lot of the old guys are gone now so most of that doesn't get sung anymore.

Maggie: We have a place here called Holiday Ham. They have sort of a deli format for a restaurant, but they also package their breads, spreads and foods. They have some really good stuff like green bean casserole that you buy in warm up containers. It isn't cheap, but if you only have one or two that like a certain thing, it is a nice way not to waste money. I love their olive egg salad. Like I said, I don't really mind the cooking, it is the clean up that is hard on me and I have already told ole sonny boy that everyone is going to help this year (btw, when I said that, there was silence at the other end of the phone! ) Funny thing, he isn't lazy, so I don't know why he doesn't pitch in. Well, he will this year or his dad will pin his ears back even if he is bigger than his dad! lol

Susan: Did I tell you my hairdresser is trying to arrange a once a month or a couple times a month where she and I go and teach knitting to the moms and older kids at Ronald McDonald house that is connected with St Judes? She goes and gives haircuts to the moms for free and she asked if I would be interested in doing it to give the mom's something to do when their kids are going through chemo and such. Heck I have leftover yarn that could go round the earth a couple times and she is such a go getter I am going to see if she can get one of the craft places to donate a bunch of plastic knitting needles. We shall see when we get started. I haven't heard from her yet. I hope the white stuff bypasses us all together this year and not ice storm stuff either. I heard somewhere that the almanac is predicting a bad winter, but it is pretty mild so far with it being November already, even in the cold country. They have had one snowstorm in the northeast a couple weeks ago and I heard the plains got some snow, but that is about it. (update: I just saw on AOL that western South Dakota got 4 feet of snow and has trapped dozens of people in their cars on the interstate. I guess winter has arrived, at least for some!)

Well ladies, again the washer is done so the clothes need to go in the dryer and I need to get upstairs and get to work. Have a wonderful Friday and a fun weekend!

Faye

Good Evening, Flowers! I've had my nap in front of the TV so am up for an hour or so before I head to bed. I didn't sleep very well last night (again) and this week has just been an unusually tough week at school. The breast cancer teacher found out that 7 out of 12 lymph nodes were cancerous, but I'm not sure how that will alter her treatment. Another teacher's mother died and the funeral was this morning. Two of the teachers I work with had subs so that they could go. One sub is a tough cookie and the kids absolutely hate her. She demands that they follow directions, be quiet, etc., or she kicks them out of class and writes up a detention notice (Saturday School). She ended up kicking 9 kids out and was only there for 4 classes. All 9 were called to the office after the 4th class! The class before mine is bad; my class has some chatty kids but they're not malicious. She started off the hour by stating her rules, expectations, and the fact that she didn't have to be there. One of the kids said under his breath, "then stay home!", and that started a few of the others to laugh and make more comments. She never did have total control, but it wasn't too bad considering it was Friday plus the weather factor. She ate lunch during my shift and said she had never subbed for such a bunch of rude, insubordinate, lazy students, and she was going to inform the office she was no longer going to sub and why. I hope she did because then maybe that will take some of the heat off the reading teacher, and they will realize it is the students and not the teacher. The reading teacher had another student escorted to the BD room today so it was pretty peaceful during class. I'll have 2 more subs to work with on Monday (different teachers and subs this time) so I will need the weekend to regroup and get ready!

"Gma" -- You sound like me with your sticky note line up! Do the guys wear glasses? A stocking stuffer idea could be a teeny tiny repair kit for glasses; Bob has one and uses the screwdriver the most, but not always on his glasses. I really do like my job for the most part and the insurance package is the big incentive. It's just that a few rotten kids can spoil it for everyone and ruin the whole class period. We watch Lawrence Welk once in awhile. I remember my grandma watching that program and thinking how boring it was. Now I enjoy most of it. The last show had the Mills Brothers on -- they are smooth! What a great idea to teach knitting to the Ronald McDonald House moms! It's nice of your hairdresser to offer her services too. Deadwood, SD, which is just west of Rapid City, had 44" of snow according to the weatherman this morning. We are about 6/7 hours from there so I sure hope that fizzles before it gets here! We've had "slop" today: rain, snow, back to rain, and now I noticed the snow is accumulating on the deck. I had Bob dig out the heated water bowl, but old man winter beat him to it. The bird bath is frozen too. I hope it doesn't break as it was kind of expensive.

I think I will start a load of laundry and head off to bed. I've been trying to read a book in bed and fall asleep, so then I have to go back and reread because I can't remember from the night before! Have a nice weekend; stay warm and dry!

Good morning to you all! It is cool here, but Jean can keep her snowy rain or whatever she is getting right now.

Not much going on here this weekend. I need to get the floor cleaning done today. I did get through my pile of sweaters yesterday so the ones on the bed are the ones that go on the new hangers when they finally ship and I have a bag for Goodwill and 3 space bags under the spare bedroom bed.

Jack and I have our 36th wedding anniversary on the 18th and we are thinking about buying ourselves a combo anniversary and Christmas present and get a HD tv. We have looked at several and will probably go with the Sharp Aquos as Jack puts it, that is the lincoln of HD tvs and I have found a good deal on it. I doubt we get it until after the Thanksgiving holidays as there is just too much hubbub right now. I really don't care one way or the other, but Jack would like to have one and Kelly and Tom have one and when we were over there for Halloween he really liked the picture clarity and such. Me, ehh who cares ,tv is tv to me. We have come a long way from when we were kids though, huh? I remember the big old wood tv and you only got about 3 channels and tv signed off after the news was on. I am trying to remember the first time we had cable. I never had it as a kid, though when I was in high school they had started putting in the underground lines in South Bend I remember. I think we were living in California the first time we had cable, which would have been in 1975 or so. Now look at us, phones we can use anywhere, contact anyone in the world without lifting a phone receiver, look up whatever we need for school, shop sitting at home in our pajamas. It truly is amazing what has happened in the last 30 years, but then I imagine our folks and grandparents thought the same thing about the automobile, telephones, tv and the like.

Jean: I think the subs ought to be encouraged to complain. Maybe if outsiders griped more and they refused to work your school the admin would take more notice. I keep thinking Jack needs to buy a container of the ice melting stuff and stick it in the garage just in case we have another episode of icy weather like last year. I am hoping we will get through winter without any white stuff, but we usually get at least one dumping light or medium here.

I guess I better start my morning chores so I can then do my Saturday cleaning. Everyone have a good day and try and keep warm and dry!

Good Morning, Flowers! We have snow on the ground, but it is not sticking to the pavement which is good. The wind has slowed down some which is also good. Now if the sun would come out I would be a happy camper. I have laundry going and need to decide what to wear tonight. We are going, with Amanda's parents, to a Fall Harvest dinner put on by a small town church. It is a Thanksgiving dinner and the food is delicious!

"Gma" -- You will enjoy HD if you watch many scenery/travel type shows. The detail is so much better. When I was little the TV programs didn't even start until 4 in the afternoon and went off after the news at 10:30. We would sit and watch the station signal waiting for the program to start. I babysat for a family that had a broken TV so after the kids went to bed I would sit and watch the clock go around until they came home. Don't know why I wasn't smart enough to take a book to read! I remember when we first had cable TV and we thought we were in heaven. It was included in our rent for the condo in Cleveland. I don't watch a lot of TV although I do enjoy Dancing with the Stars. We were talking about technology at school and I mentioned that our own kids never knew life without a dishwasher or microwave. From that we went to discussing rotary dial wall phones, etc. The kids just cracked up when we described the old stick shift cars. The Farmers Almanac says our winter will be wetter, colder, and last longer. I guess we will just make the best of it since we can't change the weather.

I hear the dryer buzzing so need to change laundry loads. Have a great day . . . the choice is yours!

Talking Soup Saturday

GOOD MORNIN' MAGNOLIAS

It is a tad bit chilly here this day in the Heartland ~ my guage says 46 degrees as I type. After I finish up here I do believe I will put on a nice pot of soup. I am almost finished up with my building and will work on a window hanging requested by my daughter. She called yesterday and said she wanted blue flowers instead and I kindly said I had it already cut out and they won't be blue. Too late for that change on this one, however, I will make her another one and surprise her. Ragg Mopp is a funny little guy. He usually sleeps on our bed and last night it must have gotten crowded or whatever caused it but he got down and took all the clothes out in a pile that Will had gotten ready in the basket to take downstairs to wash this day. Little scudder slept on the dirty pile all night and the basket was empty. He's a dog and dogs will be dogs.

DONNA You know that is a neat TV but we don't even want one anymore and haven't had one for years and still get the news and know what is going on. When I was a child we had the first TV on the block and we sure had a lot of company. But even back then I chose to be in my room with a book rather than watch most of the shows in front of that little box except for Soupy Sales after school and Perry Como in the evening. Also there were movies on Saturday night and they rotated 3 types and I could only watch one before bedtime. They were a cowboy, a Drama type, and J. Arther Rank (English mistory). I wasn't into the drama or J Arthur back then so I took it upon my self to write to the station. I explained how myself being a 10 year old really liked the cowboy movie and could only see a movie when it's rotation came up every third week. Well they read my letter on TV and said they would be happy to change their scheduling to have the cowboy movie first every week. So you see I learned early of the power of the pen and have been writing letters and having my voice heard ever since. I learned at an early age that folks don't know what you want unless you tell them. Just last year I wrote to WW and told them what I thought of their pizza crust ~ they wrote back and said they were going to look into it and if they chaned it they would send me some coupons. They did change it and sent me enough coupons for my entire WW meeting group. It was funny when later on I overheard some ladies sitting by me talking about how they wished WW had not changed that crust because they liked the old way better. I just said "write them a letter." And they just gave me a blank look. I also have written to WW Mag and told them of how I made changes in one of their recipes and they published it. So you see we can make a difference.

JEAN Snow. I love snow. I just don't love being out in it. When we first moved from CA to MT and our front yard was under a white blanket of beautiful white snow with the mail man's footprints catty corner across it. I still remember what a laugh we got from that. I grew up 2 blocks from the Pacific Ocean where it snowed ONCE there when I was a kid. But my family owned (still does) a cabin up high in the Serra's (6000 ft) that gets lots of snow and we could be up there playing in the snow then back down at the beach surfing in the same day. That cabin sure could tell a lot of tales for it is a large 4 bedroom one and we have had as many as 25 up there at one time. OH what good times we have had up there. It is just across the meadow from the ski mountain where back in the 20's they had and pulley lift. I spent a lot of "vacations" up there.

OK folks time for me to go think about what I am going to fix for lunch and get that soup going for dinner. Have a great weekend and I'll type at you later

Back a bit later to make an addition: About that cowboy movie thingie ~ my father knew a man who knew the host of that program and when my fathers friend told the host that I had been instirmental in making that change (he really liked it to be on early) he wanted me on his program so for my birthday I was on his program and the studio all sang Happy Birthday to me. You can bet all my friends were impressed. What fun for a kid.

Good evening, ladies. Still raining.

All this rain and cold air is playing havoc with my Asthma. It's going to be a long winter.

I've been working like a demon on the quilt for Alison. I'll have the quilting done tomorrow then I just have the binding so I'll have it done on time. I passed up dinner out with my Curves friends to keep working on the quilt. I'll have the final directions for the mystery quilt Friday and I have to get that done by December 9. I have a new quilt I want to get started on.

Faye, sounds like a great tv. I don't watch much tv. I do like NCIS and Grey's Anatomy and I like some Discovery Health. I cancelled the movie channels Stan liked....never had anything I wanted to see. I spend most of my free time quilting or reading.

I'll type more tomorrow. Time for me to get to bed so I can be up early for Mass in the morning.

Good morning to you all! It is nippy here this morning and I noticed my legs are cold under my nightie so I imagine I will be going up and getting pants and a sweatshirt on soon to clean outside.

I finished my 5th hat so I only have one more to go then I am done with the kids hats. I decided not to even bother with us. I am going to try and get them to all sit together and get a good shot of them in the hats and maybe make a Christmas card out of it.

Jean: I remember one babysitting route like that. No tv, late at night, kids in bed and cats. I fell asleep on the couch and one of the cats jumped on my head and terrified me. We had never had cats so I sat up scared to death until the parents came home. I was probably 13-14.
I had a dear sweet grandma and lived with them most of my junior and all my senior year. I was a popular sitter and sometimes would have more than one person wanting me to sit on the same night. My grandma would take my overage and have them bring the kid to her house then give me the money! I can't say my life there was very loving, but she was a peach. She died while our family was being moved in a transfer and I found out the hard way. We had just been to her dd's in Arkansas and had started for Memphis. No cell phones back then and we checked into the Navy Lodge until we could find rental property. No one could find us as Jack had not checked into the base yet. We found a house, and Jack had gone to the base to check in and the kids and I were sitting on the porch of the house waiting for the electric company to come and turn on the power. Jack drives up, gets out with roses (which we couldn't afford) and proceeds to tell me they have been looking for us for 2 days that my grandma passed away suddenly. Boy, was that hard to handle as we didn't have the money or time to go, I was again in a new place alone, etc, etc. It was pretty sad.

Susan: I imagine you will have that quilt done in no time. I want to get the last hat done then lay off hats for awhile. My niece asked me to make her a bag to carry school stuff in so I am working on finding the right thing for her since I sent her choices about what would work for her, felted or not, size, handles stuff like that. I watch old tv or reruns mostly. I miss Las Vegas not being on this year and haven't really gotten into the new stuff. I have watched CSI the original one a couple times. I watch tv when I knit. I watch the First 48 just because I want to see if Memphis is on it again. They tend to be the city that is featured the most, which is sad. I like to watch some of the BBCA shows like Cash in the Attic and Bargain Hunt, but like you, I don't watch a lot of tv even though I am home all day. I would rather read. You know, I had a friend back when Jay was in first grade and we lived in Va Beach whose husband was a LT Commander in NCIS at NAS Oceana. The pig was abusive to his wife, but I could never get her to leave him. I was young, about 26 and never been in a situation like that so didn't really know what to do. I was afraid to report him to the MP's as I was afraid he could mess up my husband's career and I imagine he could have. I would be at his house and he would show up and tell me to leave! He was a real jerk and I never knew what happened to them after we moved into base housing.

Maggie: Hope all those projects are coming along. I will be glad when I am done with this last hat and can sew on all the candy canes and be done. My house looks like a Christmas shop has exploded in it. We will probably put up the decorations the week of Thanksgiving to they are all up for the kids. Jack took the boys matching outfits into the spare room and said, "Do you think you bought enough stuff for the boys?" lol I have it piled on a chair and it looks like a toy store in there. Hey, I only have two grandkids! lol

Well, I am going to get morning chores done and get some warmer clothes on. Have a good day everyone!
