I CANNOT STAY ON THE PC OR READ A BOOK WITHOUT AGGRAVATING THEM YET BUT I LIVE IN HOPE! I MISS MY GAMES. I HAVE A RECORDER AND BOOKS ON TAPE FROM THE LIBRARY FOR THE BLIND. HERE IN THE STATES IT'S A FREE POSTAL PROGRAM AND EVERYTHING IS FREE INCLUDING THE RETURN OF THE TAPES AND RECORDER REPAIRS. I HAVE YET TO FINISH A BOOK....THEY PUT ME TO SLEEP!!
LOOKING BACK ON MY PAST BEHAVIOR I SEE A LOT OF SELF PITY DISGUISED AS EVERYDAY LIVING. I SEEM TO HAVE ALL THE PUZZLE PIECES NOW AND JUST NEED TO SIT AND PUT IT TOGETHER. WISDOM COMES SLOWLY TO THIS OLD CHICK. CARLA YOU ARE RIGHT...THE LIST OF FORBIDDEN FOODS LOOKS LONG BUT IN REALITY ISN'T ALL THAT BAD. THE WORST IS VINEGAR AS IT'S IN A LOT OF STUFF. BUT THINGS I ONLY USE PERIODICALLY. THEY ARE MORE CONCERNED WITH THE EVERYDAY STUFF.

Well, I did just go to the Dump - that's always a treat! Being summer, the Dump stinks so I drove down to the Lake and breathed in some lovely clean air that came all the way from Hudson's Bay.

I got an email from Ian (my cousin's widower) telling me that he and Peter (my real cousin, ex-RCMP and a hunk!) are coming up for dinner "some evening" this week. Sure great to be definite! Idiot males! I'm going to throw together a chicken dish for the freezer and will make and freeze a blueberry pie - that's more fun than what I had planned.

MEL, big hugs to you as usual. I still am planning a "Nerk" plane ride one of these days - just need to get the damned knee whipped into submission. (I have to do it before my points expire!)

Shad, the Aussie/Canuk wedding is off! My sister is quite relieved as is the potential bride. Apparently the two have not really lived together and are pretty unsure. Anne told me it was a B&B relationship - business and bed. Now Joan is focusing on Peter's big art show at the Farm on the 21st. She always needs something to organize - and does a good job of it.

Hollyhock, I would just let it go and let her leave. People like that never get straightened out and anger is very exhausting. What a sad excuse for a human being!

Ceejay, clean the inside of your dryer? Is that something to put on my list? My lint trap is lucky to get cleaned monthly. My dryer was a real bargain, purchased for $40 from a guy who said it worked but wouldn't dry clothes anymore. His wife had never ever cleaned the lint trap! It was felted solid in there but I cleaned it and the thing has worked perfectly since 1985!

Carla, would you believe I forgot to buy a pepper grinder? It was the only essential on my list but I got distracted by sushi. At the moment the old one does absolutely nothing so it's definitely time to trade up.

OK - I'm outta here to start the Chef Ramsay routine - minus the most of the cursing!

Good morning Saturday chick-lets! Had a good sleep, a nice cuddle with the cats, a weigh-in, and now I'm sipping my smoothie while I chat with y'all. It may get rather hot and humid later, but for now there's a nice cool breeze. Life is good.

Holly, at least the gossipy, mean neighbour is moving soon. What has helped me in unpleasant situations is constantly reminding myself I can stand anything for 5 days, or 10 days, or two weeks... (Of course this won't help if she's just moving down the road...) I'm always amazed at how uncharitable and vicious and self-righteous some supposedly religious people can be. Stay strong sister! (I must say, though, if you really think we're all sane, you may be in serious need of psychiatric help... ) And try not to

Ruth, did I miss something? Are you the mayoress/games mistress/social coordinator of delightful downtown delta or what? Or has everyone just decided to rely totally on your amazing organizational skills? We need you to come and shake some sense into my condo board. You do lead a busy life, lady!

Ceejay, I'm with Mel on the bone loss. I'd forgotten how annoyed I was when my bone scan showed me at "average for my age", which made no sense because at the time I was pretty sporty. But I've since decided average is just fine with me. It seems to me I read somewhere that one of the anti-osteoporosis drugs they prescribe had caused the bone in some woman's jaw to deteriorate drastically which pretty much scared me away from the drug option. Now if they came up with a drug to prevent age-related wrinkles, belly flab, chin hair, and "comfy" fashion preferences, I might be first on board... Meanwhile, I'm banking on clean living and weight-bearing exercise, at least theoretically.
By the way, I forgot to send congrats on your nephew's engagement!

Mel, if it will stop you from crying in the lobby I'll fedex you a lifetime supply of frappucinos... Or not, since it sounds like you're doing really well getting off the caffeine. I'll send a case of zucchinis instead. Amazing that the eyes are already improving; it must make it easier to stay off the banned items to see such quick results!
As for giving up sex instead of wine and sweets, I have a feeling the ref would call a foul on that one since I'm pretty sure it was sex that gave up on me... and at this point, I miss it about as much as I miss eggplant and sheep's eyes.
I agree with you about the vinegar/citrus ban being the tough one. I imagine fresh tomatoes are a problem too, even though they're not on the list. So I won't send you any of my yummy summer salad recipes unless I come up with a way around the dressing problem. I'll send you more Dr. Doug homilies instead.

Happy should be back amongst us soon - I think her guests left yesterday. She probably has a very busy weekend of laundry and cleaning and fridge restocking planned. Just don't forget to enjoy some alone time with your DH, and maybe a few quiet cocktails by the pool . And then come back to tell us all about it.

Well, no real plans for today. This post has eaten up a fair chunk of time, the newspaper is still waiting, maybe a bike ride if I'm feeling ambitious. My bone density will thank me, my butt will not...

Hi Carla I see your little egg light shining. Go out and get a bike ride in before it gets too hot. It was nice and refreshing outside this morning at 8 but I just poked my head out to feed the cat and the heat and humidity are upon us once again.

Just had a nice breakfast of some toast and a cup of cranberry and pomegranate tea with a spoonful of New Zealand pure honey yum. That old honey pot wants to make everything sticky it seems. I swear the honey is oozing out of the jar itself.

Read through your posts - there comes a point where you get so far behind that you can't catch up properly so bear with me as I try to catch up with you busy ladies...

My company is all gone, got home safe and sound even navigating through the summer season of road construction up north. The house is quiet again - perhaps too quiet. I miss Mom already. She was having fun playing with the new washing machine. Now I have a mound of bedding and towels to do myself but of all the things to do, I don't mind the laundry as you can pop it in the machines and go do other stuff. DH and I have had several conversations between yesterday morning and today - funny to live in the same house and have so much to catch up on guess we didn't have a chance to talk about the things that matter with lots of others around.

It's positively amazing how much toilet paper you go through when you have a lot of girls in the house. Good thing I stocked up at the sales. Besides the laundry, some light tidying up and meal planning and shopping, it's an easy weekend ahead. I will probably help DH clean up around the pool. I have stuck my feet in but believe it or not, haven't gotten in there myself yet. We had several rainstorms this week which have cooled the water a bit. Yesterday I opted for an afternoon nap instead of a swim as my nephew and his wife got up at 3:45 to get a head start past the Chicago traffic as they headed home to Wisconsin. I got up to see them off and just lightly dozed in a chair until my sister and family got ready to leave. Today I WILL get in the pool this afternoon. I'm kind of hoping to have some time to go through a closet or two also.

Yay Carla for getting back on track and hitting the signature weight Had to laugh at the electric pepper mill - particularly with a light. I'd be fascinated by the gadget too although I don't like pepper. I have found that the mills do crack the pepper into larger chunks than even the coarse ground pepper you can buy in the jars. I have learned to cook with it but still refuse it at the restaurants.

Ruth - do you have to take your trash to the dump regularly or just make special runs? Growing up in the city the concept of carting off your trash is a totally foreign concept tho DH grew up in a small town and they went to the dump each week. I do enjoy reading about your activities - you sure do keep yourself busy - we'll have to find a hamlet of our own when we retire. Enough people to have things to do but not too remote or city-like.

Mel, my niece gave us very pretty veil like wraps last Christmas. Sister and I were wondering why she gave us veils but she got offended and said they were swim suit wraps that she brought back from one of their cruises. Personally I think it's way too see through for my body even if it's a pretty turquoise. You are welcome to use it for your vestal virgin dance - it's about the size of the one with the bellydancer icon I will come over and cook natural for you. Bet we can still come up with some yummy stuff that avoids the items on your "hit" list. Guess it's like my mom said tho - it's just not worth the trouble of cooking for one. So I'll cook for both of you!

I agree with just leaving the neighbor be Holly. Some people have no qualms about passing judgement and calling other people idiots and worse names. When you call someone else names it reflects far more on the name caller than the person being talked about. I myself hate the term "momster" that some people have taken to calling their less than endearing mothers. In any event your neighbors will be gone soon and you won't have to deal with them.

Ceejay - while we've gotten some rain, the more intense storms have passed north of here up your way. In fact they mentioned your hometown yesterday on the weather channel.

As for the bone loss it's something to bear in mind. As women approach menopause they can loose bone mass as quickly as 10 percent per year. It can get to the point when you can fracture your ankle simply stepping off a street curb. Diet, calcium supplements and weight bearing exercise are your best bet for strong bones. I'm not into any of those supplements for bone building, cholesterol management or arthritis so try to keep in good enough shape where you don't need that stuff.

Shad - sounds like you easily slipped out of vacation mode and back into the workforce with ease. Hope you find something to keep you occupied this weekend. Congrats on getting back into the groove with a run each morning. Were you home long enough for Sunday the cat to snuggle up to you?

Can't get down far enough to see the posts from Painter, Meadow or Suzi so congrats on the weight loss, have fun in your pool and have a good trip with the hubby respectively ladies

Good thoughts to you Madcat

I too have had increasing problems with this site being slow. In several cases it was waiting for banner ads to post. Sometimes I open another browser window to bypass it, sometimes I just get a server busy message (at midnight) and I give up and go to bed.

It's almost lunch time. Better get off the computer and get a few things done, especially if I want to go swimming this afternoon.

Have a good weekend chicks.

Hi Happy! I see your little egg all aglow. Glad to have you back!

I managed to put off the bike ride long enough for the rain to start, so that's not going to happen. Instead my neighbour and I will take a drive to Costco and the pet food store - with the cat who cries all the time to be taken out. I'm a slow learner, but he has me almost trained... Today's challenge: not eating bad samples at Costco. At least we don't have the wide variety and big samples they had at the Costco in San Fran when I was there last year! Lunch and dinner in one visit!! (Usually I complain about the sad little bites they give us, but not during challenge month...)

Gotta go, my pal will be waiting and I have to harness the cat. Really. Not a joke.

Morning all,
Went to the footy match (on tv) last night with the bloke and some of his mates. They talked all the way through it which drove me . I don't mind some chatter but continuous and having nothing to do with the footy (it was work related) is just not a happening thing when I am watching the footy, thank you very much. Strike one for the BLOKE!
I drunk one too many vodkas and went home in the wee hours. At least the alcohol ensured I did not cough all night.
They drunk more than me and I had to escort two of them home - oh what a pain to be a responsible person. Since they live in the SRA (Single Residential Accommodation) same as me, escorting them home wasn't a chore - keeping them quiet was. I think most men should come with a gag.

So anyway, here I am, back in the office and waiting patiently for some trainees to arrive. I had the grand total of two yesterday. Not worth the over the top sum that they pay me but there you are. Life happens.

Holly - If it was me having this problem, I probably would not do anything about the neighbour since they are moving anyway. It might well be that they expect you to get upset and go storming over so they can really have an excuse to put you down. I would continue to accept their religious beliefs with as much dignity as possible, but not have much to do with them for the remaining time. Of course you could always bake them a farewell cake - with the message 'Glad you are going' on the icing and liberally laced with poison on the inside. Ask Ruth for her Rum Cake recipe and substitute Methylated spirits for the rum.

Carla - I'm enitrely with you about being happy being manless. Gotta say I go more places, see more people, learn more and interact more without one.

I just hit the advanced button and found there were another page of posts that I had not yet seen. Oh joy more reading - and the students still have not arrived. Aaaah well.

Happy - good to have you back although it will be quiet around your place now that the family has gone. Enjoy the swimming. You know the worst part is getting in - just ask Carla about my efforts in the lake in Quebec - after that you don't notice cool or cold. Wish I could swim here, but I am having a problem locating the lady with the key to both the pool and the gym. Apparently it is too cold for swimming at the moment We should get Carla here. She'd tell them the pool is like a big bath!!!

Madcat - I have been thinking about you, your friend and your sister - not to mention your DH (hello man). Hope all is going well and sending some for you.

Ceejay - I'm with the Aunt and prefer not to take tablets unless I'm in imminent danger of dying. I have a problem with taking them everyday as well. I forget. Do not take fluid tablets at night. You won't get much sleep!

Gotta go - a BLOKE has arrived. Not the bloke from last night - he came in earlier - another bloke. Be back later.

Both of them are praying for forgiveness on this day. They both apparently have headaches. One has not shown up for work.

I get all the good gossip.

You all sound so ambitious!
Mel: Congrats on the ocular improvement. It is so good when something works the way "they" say it will, don't you think. I have found that if i actually take my pain meds 2x/day like instructed, they work! (I thought I could take them like aspirin, to RELIEVE pain. Apparently these pills are more preventative... sort of like anti-depressants. D'oh)

Shad: Can't believe you are courageous enough to include measurements. I didn't measure when I started. My bra is loose, but maybe it just needs to be washed.

I got to the gym this morning and had the mixed blessing of finding out that I had to work harder/faster to get up to "target" heart rate. So I'm getting 'better" but still have to suffer more. I know that isn't logical thinking, but I'm too tired to re-think it right now. It's probably better to be glad that what was really hard only two weeks ago barely phases me now. (I lifted the new wheelbarrow out of the truck bed all by myself this afternoon, too. )

A friend and I went to see EVENING yesterday. Definitely worth a go. I'd been told it was a 4 hankie movie, but maybe it's all that therapy I had about my mother.... hardly shed a tear!! Filmed in Newport, Rhode Island and was beautiful. Has Streep, Close, Redgrave, and Toni Colette as well as a new gal, Mamie something. Flashbacks to the early 50's. LOVED the clothes and "manners"... though the dysfunctions were painfully recognizeable! (But they provided the drama, so go figure.)

My log book is still helping me stay "kosher."

PAINTER I LOVE YOUR LOGBOOK!!! I AM THINKING OF MAKING A HAPPINESS JOURNAL/DIARY COMBO. LOVE ALL YOUR STICKERS!! RIGHT NOW I AM USING A HARRY POTTER JOURNAL THAT CAME WITH STICKERS
GLAD TO HEAR ABOUT THE GYM AND I WOULDN'T RETHINK A THING! GREAT WORK!!! AND THANKS FOR THE PAT/BACK. I AM FEELING AMBITIOUS!!
I CANNOT WAIT TILL EVENING COMES TO CABLE!!
SAW A PREVIEW.PAIN MEDS ARE SOMETIMES WHAT THEY CALL "BUILD-UP" DRUGS. YOU MUST CONTINUE TO TAKE THEM TO KEEP THE LEVEL BUILT UP AND THUS RELIEVE THE PAIN ON A MORE REGULAR BASIS...SOUNDS LIKE AN ANTI-INFLAMMATORY. GLAD IT'S WORKING. NICE TO SEE YOU WITH SUCH A BIG SMILE!!

SHAD ARE YOU STILL DRAGGING HOME DRUNKEN BLOKES? WOULDN'T ONE HAVE DONE THE TRICK? OR HAVE YOU AN INSATIABLE APPETITE THIS WEEK??
OMG I SAT HERE LAUGHING FOR TWO DAYS WITH YOUR POSTS. FIRST ONE TRIES TO GET YOU DRUNK THEN YOU GO OUT AND GET TWO DRUNK!! WHAT KIND OF JOB IS THIS??? NEXT THING WE KNOW YOU'LL ALL BE OUT DANCING WITH THE CROC WHILE CROCKED!!

TODAY SHOULD BE QUIET. THE POOR WOMAN FROM YESTERDAY IS TOO SCARED TO STAY HERE SO WENT TO THE GS'S HOUSE. I FEEL BETTER SHE IS WITH FAMILY.
JEN AND COMPANY REPORTED IN. THEY ARE DOING OK BUT JEN SOUNDS LIKE SHE'S READY TO SHIP THE KIDS BACK ABOUT NOW. GOOD THING IT'S ONLY PART-TIME MOTHERHOOD. AS THE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS COME TO AN END THE KIDS START FOLLOWING HER AROUND LIKE PUPPIES. THEN THEY ALL START CRYING. I AM STARTING TO REALLY HATE GOODBYES!
FUNNY THAT SHAD JUST LEFT AND MY FRIEND IN NEW SOUTH WALES CALLED LAST NIGHT. WE SPOKE OF SHAD'S TRIP. SHE MIGHT GIVE THE USA A MISS THIS TIME AND CALLED TO TELL ME. SHE'D LIKE TO GO TO ENGLAND, FRANCE AND SPAIN THIS TIME AROUND BEFORE SHE FEELS SHE CAN'T GO. SHE FOUND SHE HAD DIABETES FOR YEARS AND NEVER WENT TO A DR. NOW SHE IS A TYPE 1 GOING INTO TYPE 2 OR VICE VERSA. I FORGET AND ALSO HAS COMPLICATIONS. SO SHE IS WORRIED ABOUT TRAVELING ALONE IN THE FUTURE AND WOULD LIKE TO DO A BIG WALKING TOUR NOW. HER FEET ARE ALREADY BOTHERING HER. VERY SAD. SO I SAID I WILL BE HERE WHEN SHE IS READY. I AM SURROUNDED BY ACCENTS!!! DOES NO ONE I KNOW SPEAK ENGLISH??
I HAD BEST GET OUT OF HERE BEFORE THE WORLDLY CHICKS WAKE UP AND SMACK ME!!
HAPPY SUNDAY/MONDAY

Hey y'all,

Mel - 2 good ideas from you today - loved the get up and move avatar as well as the build up on the pain meds. Never thought of them that way. I hate to take something unless I really NEED it - perhaps I am not doing myself any good. Thanks for the reminder. I think the idea of a joy journal is a good thing - keeps you mindful of the good things in life. How scary about the poor lady who fell down. Good thing you were around to get help for her. I can relate to the many accents - sometimes at work I feel like I've been teleported to another country.

Painter - your journal is really cute. Colorful like you. I like the happy star stickers. It's wonderful that you have seen a difference at the gym. That's what it's all about. Little improvements here and there. Keep up the good work!

Shad - what little I've seen of you talk about footy - I can tell you are a SERIOUS fan so I can imagine how hot you'd be about them chattering on and on while you were trying to watch the game. This assignment seems a bit different from the last few. Of course it's the people as much as the place that make the experience. Did I remember correctly that this is a short stint and you'll soon be on to another?

It's a lovely, sunny hot day out there. Apparently sister brought the rain with her and took it back when she left for home I did get a 45 minute swim in yesterday and hope to get an hour in today. I still have to plan the meals and do the shopping. I get home rather late now so I think the meals will be precooked on the weekend or put together quick salads and such. We ate very healthy when Mom was just here but we did seem to skimp on the fruits and veggies when the rest of the crew was here. I'm feeling the need for some good stuff in the belly.

I did start to clean out some bathroom cabinets. Now I'm in the state when I have more mess on the floor than what I started with. Same for the office area. I think I'll take care of those 2 areas, finish the last of the laundry, get the shopping done and tidy up the kitchen. I need (not like or want) to get a swim or some exercise in and I was hoping to spend a bit of time catching up on work items - can't say that will happen. Oh and I have 3 pairs of pants to hem too. Shoot. The vacation week really zoomed by. Wish we had 30 days like some European countries.

Well things don't get done sitting here so off I go. Hellos to the rest of the crew. I could use Carla as my personal coach to get off my duff and out into the fresh air Happy Sunday chicks

Carla the personal coach slept in until 11 and is still in her nightie. Goes to show you can't trust anybody anymore.

It's another rainy, cool day here. Unlike those who only ever have weekends off, I don't mind at all. In fact I enjoy the cooler weather. But it makes me even lazier than usual...

Last night I got busy and moved some furniture around, trying to open up the space a bit and also to find a good spot for a wonderful leather/rosewood recliner and ottoman I may buy from a friend. One thing I moved was the living room cat tree which is now in my bedroom. (I have two, both with tiny dishes of kitty treats in them. I never said they weren't spoiled.) One of my cats, the skittish one, spent the next three hours jumping up on a table, staring dejectedly at where the tree used to be, going away, coming back, checking to see if it had returned, repeating the process... I felt so mean. Of course today she knows where tree and treats have gone, and is recovering nicely from all the upheaval. Now I'm the one staring at the empty place wondering how to fit a big chair into a little spot. Maybe if I go away and come back later it'll all be fixed.

Shad, all these men following you around! Must be the cosmopolitan gloss you acquired while touring North America. They both need a good dish of poutine to put them to rights, lots of fat and salt to rebalance the electrolytes. It sounds like this is a pretty low-effort contract, which can be nice for a change. Enjoy the rest and get over any remnants of that cold.

Mel, you're right about me being harnessed by the d***ed cats. Don't know how it happened, but there you are. As for being surrounded by accents, I've talked to you on the phone, and I'm afraid that I have bad news: YOU're the one that has the accent...

Happy, you've been in the pool!!! Now I guess I'd better get my butt into a lake again if I want to keep the coaching credentials you awarded me. Anyway, we're all each others' coaches, aren't we? I know what you mean about trying to cook after getting home late from work. At least in summer heat it's easy to be satisfied with a cold meal.
If I can weigh in on the painkiller subject, I always thought the build-up method was only for people with chronic pain, whereas the pop-a-pill-when-it-hurts method was preferable for occasional pain, thus avoiding chemical dependency regular use can involve. I have a bottle of very effective painkillers I use only when I get a killer headache; if I took them all the time I'd be an addicted, euphoric, speed demon chatterbox. Hmmm. Maybe I'll go pop a few... Didn't doctors prescribe speed in the old days for weight loss?

Painter, I love your journal, so colourful and full. I've started writing things down, not counting calories so much as noting exchanges (ie 3P -protein - 3 oz chicken). I have a 1200 calorie diet sheet with little boxes for the exchanges I should have each day to reach my goal.
Isn't it amazing how quickly our bodies respond to physical activity? If only the flabby bits would snap back into shape as fast as the cardio-vascular system does. I know exactly what you meant about having to work just as hard despite your progress. But then you can get that little thrill of pride when you realize you can do things you couldn't ever imagine doing. Even pro athletes have to do workouts that challenge and exhaust them. on doing so well.

Today was another good scale day. Now I'm trying to stop myself from doing that idiotic thing a lot of us do: "well, I've lost 3 pounds in 4 days, at that rate I'll hit goal by...". That way lies disaster. This is a long process, but one I can be successful in. It really helps that a few of us are all ready for a challenge at the same time, the enthusiasm is contagious.

Greetings to Madcat, Meadow, Suzi, Roseblush, Ceejay, Holly (extra to help you get thru these stressful days). Apologies to whoever I've forgotten this time.
