Howdy ladies,
Can't believe another weekend has flown by - zip, zoom and it's gone. I need to find one of those jobs where I can work 10 hour days and have 3 days off. Or even work part time.
DH bought another guitar over the weekend. He was hesitant to spend the money but I said what the heck - you could be gone at the end of the year. If you want it, then get it. He said it is easier to play than the Fender which is encouraging to him.
I did get my 10 laps in the pool - wish I could swim when there's full sun on the water - keeps you a little warmer. It's not bad if you're constantly swimming but if you start to tread water you can feel the wind blow. With the thyroid shot, if I get even a bit cool or warm it's an extreme - shivering at a slight breeze or in flames if it's the least bit warm out. The August heat is here - going to be a good week for the pool. As long as we don't get the pop up storms that come along with them.
Got to go give blood this morning. I have to laugh - it's "that time of the year at work". They are asking for our blood (critical blood shortage in the community), our food (food drive for the food pantry), our clothes (clothing drive for the poor), our supplies (school supplies for the 2 sister schools we sponsor) and of course our money - the annual United Way Campaign.
Oops - we had a brown out this morning - power fluctuations. DH tells me he needs to reboot the Internet box so I have to log off.
Check back with y'all tonight. Have a good Monday.

I'm not having a good eating day today. It started off okay, then I had to deal with the plumber, the electrician and a bunch of real estate people who send people to houses to fix or install and have no idea of the basics - such as where do I turn the water off. The plumber and I did a dodgy deal and finally got it turned off and the dishwasher is installed and the water is back. I'm still waiting for the real estate people to tell me where to turn the water off.
I spent last night working on the dvd problem. Fixed it in 2 minutes this morning. Apparently it needed some cables, which were lying in the back cupboard attached, and it needed tuning to something called HDM11 rather than the DVD button. Who'd have thought of it. Anyway after 2 days of snow and buzzing, I now have a picture. I'll work on it again tonight to ensure I have it right.
I went for a run this morning. Last night I did so yoga/pilates to make up for the lack of dvd and exercise during the day. I had to work off the routines that were in my head, but at least it got done. This morning I went for a very slow run around a big block. But at least the exercise is started. I was good with food yesterday. I knew that today would not be good as I am going for drinks and nibbles with the recruiting agent tonight. I'd better watch myself not to undo yesterday's loss.
Since I was late for work this morning - due to the plumber, electrician and lack of information, I can't reply to all yet.
Ruth must be ordering the very latest in computers - she hasn't been in for days. I wonder if Carla went down to the Delta Fair. Actually, I was working on some Delta, Rideau, Gatineau, Ottawa photos this morning. I'm hoping to put them on the net when I go home for the weekend.
Gotta go do some work today. Morning afternoon and goodnight to all.

Carla did not go to Delta Fair. Carla stayed home and de-cluttered and reorganized furniture and screwed up her wireless connection by "tidying" the router/modem wires. So now there's stuff in piles and bags everywhere, the furniture is mostly back where it started, and I'm off the net apart from this quick look-in via dial-up which is ssooooo sllooowwww and requires that I st on the floor near the phone jack... I'll be back once I've done some errands and managed to get the problem sorted.
Meanwhile, to all

Good Morning. I read thru last night and i am about to start my day here. Coffee and breaky are ingested.
I desperately need to pull up my socks and get focussed here!!!! I woke at 3am and realized I never got my car lisence sticker on my Bday. Today is the last day of July. I have also ordered a whole set of natural cleaning products thru a friend with her discount. I want to clean all day so I may go pick those up and then get my sticker. I didn't want to go out at all but NEED to.
I am way behind on Avon stuff. I am prepping my livingroom to paint it. This also includes redesigning the layout and art etc. We use that room for EVERYTHING and it gets full. Fast and cluttered and smelly it seems. The carpet is ruined from toilet training about 12 kids here and having geriatric cats. We cant afford to do the main floor floors yet. The steam cleaner is my friend. We also eat breaky and lunch in there. I am trying to restore the room to a more peaceful space. Last night I moved the ugly but very functional shelf unit into the former toyroom which had become a lot of empty ,unused space.I moved the guinea pig and gerbil into there. I have a new corner set up for lego.I still have one shelf unit to move. Again it is stuff we use all the time except for photo albums. I am going to try them out on top of the canning cupboard in the dining room.
I need to wash the walls down and then prime and paint all the trim in the LR.
I took the week of August 13 off of work. The pro painter is coming to help me on Aug 20th.
The kids have VBS that week so I will be able to work alone every morning. The last 2 weeks of August will be very busy at work with back to school haircuts and in Sept I start working Mondays 12-6 as well. 4 days of payroll. We need the income and I am getting busy there. It is all positive but on the home/family management front. Both kids start piano lessons in Sept and hockey and figure skating(instead of gymnastics this year).
During that week I have off my goal is to get the whole house in excellent shape!
I had such a grand 4 days with old friends and then family and cousins here from Germany. My head and heart are still with all of them. This Sunday coming up my sister and I are are going on our trip to Toronto with the 3 kids. Exciting but also a lot of work for me. She does not drive. The drive home will be loooong as I will be tired. My kids dont sleep great away from home which means I dont sleep great either.
Okay. To Do
-call about cleaning stuff
-cut DS's hair
-clean guinea cage
-find homes for shelf and stuff left in LR
-clean both bathrooms
-finish laundry
-dust,sweep, swiffer upstairs
That's a start. Many hugs!!!

this woman is jumping up and down. Bud's coming back to work on Thursday and I will have 4 glorius day's off.
Shad-- I knew you would get that dvd up and running. I envy your running. I've walked the past couple of days on the inside where it is cool. I made up for the sweating this morning when I refilled the chemical drums.
This is about it for me. I'm being lazy today and I deserve it.

Tuesday in July
The chlorine in the pool has done a mischief on my hair. Not only is it dry but the colour is callico cat I may have to give in my feminist view of hair dying and start back on the bottle once a month I so dislike conformity, goes against my anarchist soul's natural rhythms.
Mel-oh dear! That must have felt awful being left while the others shuffled off home. So good to hear Willie was on your side and kept the caf-fiends away from your lips. Enjoy the breeze now that you are safely home and watch out for the mosquitoes when the sun goes down.
Shad-well done on the wire crossing and getting the dvd player to work. I have a vhs/dvd player that refuses to work also. I think it is because our tv is so old. The vhs works but the dvd is on perpetual fast forward I admire your dedication to the exercise and hope you are limber and staying cozy warm in your new abode.
Ceejay-enjoy the break! I hope your internal clock can catch up with some extra "Z's" You do deserve the lazy time, enjoy!
Carla-Messing with the computer wires?! Now that takes courage! I hope you can get it all working again. I used to have dial-up, never again What made you deside to do the massive reorganization? Have you been into the caf-fiend? Did you see lots of dust? everytime I move the couch a tumble of dust bunnies scamper out
Happy-into the pool! Be sure to give your hair a good rinse though or you too could be a callico chick What kind of tunes is your hubby trying to play on the guitar? Has the Elvis spirit taken him over?
Holly-good to hear you had a pleasant visit with your friends. Good energy for all that painting ahead
PainterWoman-hmm, gin and tonic... good that you are noticing the changes in your body... fingers crossed it is just scar tissue and nothing serious but really, just for your own peace of mind, go to the doctor and have it checked Then have a drink to celebrate
Linus-CJ is staying true to form then? Still a handfull? I'm glad the party for the big boy of 18 went well. I hope you get some good fruit and veg into yourself and have those trousers loosen. Be well!
I have to be off now hey Suzy, Madcat, Teel, Rose and all the lovely chicks at sea

Morning all,
Short one today as there is a mountain of work to be done. I went out last night for drinks and nibbles. Very nice networking with all those people. However the scales show the imbalance today. To much salt in some of those nibbles. I couldn't get out of bed this morning so the thought of exercise still to be done is hanging over my head. Darn, darn and more darn.
Mel, you poor thing. Fancy having to wait for the bus without a hope of a coffee or tea. Stay cool.
Carla - hope you untangle the wires soon and get back to it. Then you might need to go back to Delta and fish Ruth out of the mire. Seems her computer is not doing what it ought to do. Either that or she is not speaking to us.
Meadow, don't know whether the wires did the trick or not, maybe it was just luck that I pressed the right button, although I swear I had done so before. It must be something to do with this gigantic plasma screen. Next thing I need to try is to tune it in properly or adjust aerials or something - it's a bit ghosty - the tv, not the video. Love the hair description.
Holly - sounds like a lot of work ahead of you, but then again it is necessary to keep ones head above water. One does what one has to, to cope with the world gone mad today.
Gotta go, things to do.

Evening chicks,
Had a doctor's appt this morning so couldn't post. I've been trying to get on in the evenings and between a combination of my not so great any more network provider and 3FC being slow, I have alot of frustration in the evening. Seems I can get to one or 2 pages here and then the site freezes and it just times out. So often I see the old news but can't get on to see the new posts. I'm trying not to stay up too late so if it's not that cooperative, I give up in frustration. So that's why I haven't been around much. Besides of course the busy job, the busy personal life and I am really trying to make an effort to get some exercise in and watch my food. I get home late and it's quite a juggle to get dinner on, get some pool time in and not be eating at 8pm. DH has offered to start dinner but since most of our stuff is grilled, it doesn't take long to cook so it's not like he can pop something into the oven for an hour. Tonight was grilled pork chops, home canned apple sauce from the local orchard and some fresh steamed green beans with thin sliced red bell pepper. I flew in the door, washed the pork chops and set them in marinade, sliced and washed the beans and peppers and set them in the double boiler to cook once he put the chops on. The food was all prepped in under 10 minutes. I was able to get a swim in (have increased my laps) and we were eating by 7:15. I wish I could shift the schedule a bit so that we could eat or I could exercise earlier but it just doesn't work out.
I did see something very motivating to me last week. I was watching the story of a woman who wanted to be the first in the record books to swim a mile in the Antartic seas. And she swam not in a wet suit but in a regular swim suit. This is in 30 something degree water with chunks of ice. She achieved her goal. The thing that struck me was someone was asking her how she could deal with the cold. The guy interviewing her stuck his hand in the water (he was travelling with her) and he said the minute he put his hand in the water it was like needles stinging him. After 5 minutes his hand started to burn. And here's this woman swimming in this water with just a swim cap and 1 piece swim suit. Now granted she was a little chunky which she said helped but early on when she was training and jumping into cold water she would naturally want to jump back out again. But she said she realized that thinking about how cold she was just kept her away from her goal. So she refocused on the task at hand, not how cold she was. I have to admit, that with the thyroid condition when I get a bit chilled it's a short hop to cold and shivering. Often times, I'd go in the pool but not stay long because I'd be too cold. So now I do what she does, I jump in, get over the momentary shock and start paddling away. As I'm entering the pool I'm thinking - dwelling on the cold (or any other excuse or obstacle) just keeps you away from meeting your goal. It's a good philosophy.
I have a huge bruise on my arm today. There is a critical blood shortage in town and I have O+ blood so they are always hunting me down. (Insert vampire smiley). Now the people at the blood draw place are very nice but dang, they sure can't draw blood well. I am not "an easy stick" as they say which means I have little veins that are well hidden in a fat arm and they have a tendency to scoot away when they feel that needle coming. Now, the phlebotomists at the doctors office are fantastic. One of the girls at the endochronologist's office said she hasn't met a vein she can't stick yet and she's right. Just a tiny pinch and boop, she's done. Anyway they were just having a heck of a time with me yesterday. At one point I had 3 people working on me. I knew I was in trouble when they said they were short of donors and they were not going to give anyone up Let's just say it was quite painful (not to put off any would be donors lurking on the thread today). I will give it one more shot at donating but instead of doing it at work, I will go down to the local office. If they are just as bad as my last 2 donation experiences, well that's it for me. Guess it will have to be a bucket and some leeches from now on in. Oh horrors. I would die first.
Something I learned at the rhematologist's today. I was talking to her about my toes - I have arthritis in them and I will never be wearing strappy 3 inch heels again in my life. I was asking her if the arthritis will make my toes all gnarly some day. I have seen some ladies in sandals with some nasty looking jumbled up toes. She said as we age our feet naturally widen out. The arches will wear out too. When you wear a shoe with a good arch it curves your foot and naturally tucks your toes down into proper position. Wear a shoe with no or little arch support and you feet will widen like paddles and the toes will shift over creating gaps in your foot line and twisting your toes on top of each other. Smashing the tootsies into pointy toes shoes will also make them start to cross over one another. So... something to keep in mind when you're looking for shoes. What you think looks cute today could have you all gnarly tomorrow. And that goes for the ever popular rubber flip flop thongs that so many people favor.
Shad, was it the food or the drinks that had you hugging the mattress this morning? Tough to pass up a networking opportunity but on a Monday night? Good to hear your getting settled into the new flat and that you've started a challenge to keep you motivated.
Meadow - thanks for the warning on the hair. I am summer blond now so the risk of calico is minimal. But I do condition religiously as once it goes to straw it's hard to get back. DH is playing mostly scales right now and a few blues riffs. When he was taking lessons he played Auralee (sp?) about 8 bazillion times until I truly thought I'd go mad. Auralee is a popular folk song and is the melody to "Love Me Tender". So you could say he was channeling Elvis I suppose but I've banned them from the house now. Actually in playing riffs quite often I would hear it and expect him to break into song, only to have him go back to the riff again. Drove me nuts. Almost like when you want to sneeze but it stops just short. I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the pool. And you don't have to go back to the bottle for long, just perhaps for a month or two of color correction.
Mel, as I'm swimming along I have a eye out for Froggies. If I find one, I'll send 'em your way. Bummer on the bus breaking down. I do hope you didn't have frozen foods that went soft while waiting. Nice of Willie to sit with you. I'm proud of you for keeping away from the Fraps lady.
Ceejay - enjoy the 4 days off. I can feel your excitement all the way over here.
Hi Holly
Carla - oooh dial up so sucks when you've gotten used to cable. Hope things get fixed up fast. Goes to show you, some things just need to be left untouched
Ok, guess I babbled enough for the days I missed. See, weren't you happier when I didn't post
Time for bed now. Goodnight ladies. Pleasant dreams.

Ack. I don't understand why, but my "quote" button didn't work. Which means I need to rely on scrolling up and down or my MEMORY. :yipes:
I've had fairly decent food days... still writing down what I eat, checking it at calorieking.com and totalling everything up. FYI, did you know an awesome blossom at Chilis has 2900 calories?
I've got an appointment next week with a breast surgeon (my prior one moved to Michigan). My oncologist (out of town, wouldn't you know) was checking messages with his nurse, and gave her the message to get me in the queue. I've tracked down xrays, pathology reports, etc. etc. I'm still nervous, and haven't laid it on either DS or DD yet. (Their dad is having prostate surgery on Friday. I'm not sure their step mom wants them around, but I'm hoping they'll do what THEY feel is right. Oh, yeah, "fun times" as DS says.)
So after calling the mammography clinic, the old surgeon, the oncologist, etc. etc. etc. I skipped my drawing class this evening and DH and I went out for lasagna. Yeah, that'll probably toast my weight loss goal this week. (DD and I exchange weigh-in info on Wednesdays.) and then after the lasagna splurge, DH and I reverted to our favorite comfort... nope, not "that" but Peanut M 'n' M's for him and Choc. chip cookies for me.
Will definitely go to gym tomorrow, and if it is as nice as it was today, will probably also walk a bit to increase the cardio.
Mel, glad you didn't melt or melt-down.
Madcat-- Sorry you are having Calico moments. My hair is in it's reddest phase because I went and re-highlighted last week. It will lighten/fade and get blonder... then we'll redden up again in time for Thanksgiving!
Shad-- way to go on DVD.
Below is a photo of the new-improved pantry, sans moths....
