Hey Gals!

I must share with you all the WONDERFUL box of items that AVIS from NATUREL sent me that I received today. A fabulous GALLON of agave SYRUP (I told him I was learning, will be tough to get out of the habit of calling it nectar), 4 flavors of agave stix (like honey stix, in the little straws), which Michael and I both gave a 2THUMBS UP, a bunch of individual agave packets, like the little lemon juice packets you get at FF restaurants, a bottle of Agave Syrup they will be marketing under their own label soon in 12oz size-which is wonderful! And 2 company pens, of course, I'll use those to keep my journal entries! This lady is just the sweetest person! I'm just so impressed with his dedication to informing as well as taking the time to send this great array of agave items! I wish you were all here so I could share this with you. Hmmmm, how about this idea, if you are not able to get agave but would really like to try it, why don't you e-mail me with your mailing address and I'll send you one of those packets out! Of course, it's not an amount you can really do anything more than taste, but at least you'll know what it tastes like!

MEL, last year it got quite chilly down here where it was hard for me to go out early, I'd sometimes wait til 10 or 11am til it warmed up a little. I b*tch a bit about the heat, then when the cold comes, I'll b*tch about that a bit as well. One thing about losing weight, I can say I can stand the summers so much more easily these days than when I was fatter! It use to be so unbearable for me, now, it's still hot, and it still bothers me, but no where nearly as much. Thanks for the congrats!!! I really feel great today. Just remind me next week, when it's my TOM (due on my birthday unfortunately-maybe it will come a little late), and the scale is going up-just kick my rear and remind me that it's just TEMPORARY!!!! Yes, you are over the initial "big drop" but don't let that worry you, sometimes you won't see a drop for quite a while, or little tiny ones, and then you'll have a big one. It's if you see large drops each week that you should be worried. In the past week, I've lost 5lbs, and you sure don't see me complaining!!!! My original goal weight was 129, the only other time in my life that I lost weight I got down to that weight, so that's what I picked, plus, the weight charts had me fall under those guidelines as well. BUT, I never want to see the 130's again, even if it's a temporary gain due to something like TOM-so I decided to give myself a 5lb cushion, thus going to 124. I think I don't look bad, and surely I don't feel bad, so I thought that if I don't change anything in my WOE and just continue on, if I'm able to get to 119, then great, so be it, if not, not a big deal, just try to keep myself under 129 is really what I'm focused on. Yes, it's nice to see the lower number, but I also realize that at this time in my life and following this WOE, I'll be lucky to see a 1lb loss on average each month, which is what I'm hoping for. Not more than 1lb a month and I'll be happy-that's if my body cooperates, if not, like I said, no biggie.

ZANNE, WELCOME TO THE SB BOARDS!!! Glad you've decided to join us-as you can see, ROSALIE is happy to know another Canadian has also joined her! Sounds like you're doing well so far. Please, don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have-we'll be more than happy to help answer them best we can-we're all in the same boat, or as some of the gals think, the same wagon!

ROSALIE, are you able to find agave syrup up in Canada??? How far away from ZANNE are you???

BOB, I give you the .20 credit, that's what I though, didn't think it was .2-geez, only my kitchen food scale does those little increments! Hey, a fifth of a pound is worthy of a CONGRATS any dat!!! Your man will be home soon

Okay, gotta run, Eli's due home in a few. Eating light tonight, he's making his wonderful salad "fattoush!" YUMMY!!!

If I don't get back on later tonight, I'll check in with you all sometime tomorrow morning!!

Default Small World!

Meliris and Rosalie--Thanks for the WELCOME!

It's neat to meet people who know almost exactly where you live.

We live at Yonge and Steeles (a 5 minute walk to CentrePoint mall, if you know where that is). Bayview and Sheppard is a hop, skip and a jump away, and we used to live at Major Mackenzie and Bayview in Richmond Hill.

It is a very small world indeed!

Debelli--we must have been typing at the same time so I didn't see your message before I posted mine. Thanks for the "welcome"

We have a pretty neat health food store called "ambrosia" that I will try to see if they have the agave syrup. First I think I'll read thru some of the info on these threads. I have no idea how to use it. Do you use it like sugar? Like instead of putting sugar or equal in your coffee, can you use the agave?

Gotta go, but I'll check in tomorrow!

Talking

Hi all,

Glad to see everyone is doing well today! I walked for the first time since I started SB today 1 mile in 20 min and another 2 hrs later 20 min. I didn't even get tired and I can't believe I didn't, goes to show you what sugar does to your body. I couldn't have even walked a half a mile before this without getting out of breath and pains in my side. It made me feel great to walk that far. I wanted to do another mile but the thunder thighs would not let me. I will have to wear a pair of shorts with long legs underneath everything else. Boy is this Gumbo weather and I made a huge pot, SB legal of course. Well better go now hope everyone has a great nite.

Started SB July 1, 2001

Getting back to the question of how MUCH to eat, especially when you are not hungry--I was wondering about that myself tonight after dinner when I found that I really had not had enough calories but was on the other side of being comfortably satisfied.

Breakfast--1 wedge honeydew melon
1/4 C low fat cottage cheese
1/2 C raspberries
1/2 of a Whole wheat Pita-ette
(small pita bread)
1 1/4 oz. havarti cheese melted on pita

Lunch--1/2 loaf of regular WW pita bread
stuffed with grilled veggies and
3 oz. roasted chicken, white and dark
meat and a little skin.

Dinner-- 5 1/2 oz. Roasted pork tenderloin
Pan "fried" cabbage, with added onion,
apple, and balsamic vinegar
(Then baked along with the pork--yum!)
a couple of brussels sprouts
1/4 C black-eyed peas

Snack-- 1 wedge honeydew melon

All this was about 1075 calories, with 38% fat, 35% protein and the rest carbs. (I'm writing these numbers from memory.) I had to force myself to eat that last piece of honeydew because I was too low on calories. Deb--any comments. You have some good pointers always, and they benefit all of us. In looking back at this menu, I might have added more green raw veggies, like a big salad. However, I just wasn't hungry for it, and would have been stuffing myself. Hmmm ----

SolShine--and BOB and all the other SEC gals--I will actually have to miss even watching the Gators this Saturday on TV. Can you believe it!!! We had tickets, and my DH is going to the game, taking 3 friends. But I have decided to take my daughter to an event they are having here in Orlando for women. We needed some time together and this was a good event to do that. It lasts all day Sat., so I won't know the score until about 6:30 pm. Of course, the recent events in our country reaffirm that football is just a dab of icing on the cake of life and that there are other things much more important. But---football certainly is fun down here in the south. We're leaving 2 weeks from today for Calloway Gardens and the Auburn game, and I definitely am looking forward to it!

Meliris--I hear ya about the Big Ten. There is a lot of tradition up there. But I have seen Big Ten alums who are parents of UF students come down to visit their kid and get to go to a game. They come away pretty awed by what they saw--with the noise volume, the color, the traditions. The Swamp is quite a sight, and-- UT has an even bigger stadium holding over 100 thousand. However, I'd love to go to a Big Ten game. Maybe one of these years the Gators will get to play Mich. or one of those teams. We'd probably travel up there for that. I did get to see a UF-Penn State game, but that was played here in Orlando.

Congratulations to all you losers! LOL You've worked hard, so pat yourself on the back.

Hi everyone

Just got back from my little grocery trip. I'm a bit behind in responding to everyone but I started this post sometime yesterday so should try to get it finished.

Sef - Don't ever stop posting because you have gained a few pounds. It's nothing to feel guilty about. We are here to help and support each other. If we were all so perfect and never went off plan we wouldn't need support forums to help us along. I really missed you and had been wondering what had happened to you. You are so busy volunteering and helping others, I hope you are finding time for yourself. I would be tempted to keep the flag in a safe place. I am sure you would be devastated if you hung it outside and it got stolen.

Kim - Glad to hear everthing went well with the doctor's visit. I was planning on trying to get into chat on Tuesday but then decided I needed some exercise so went for a swim instead. Probably wont make it next week either as I am scheduled to work evening shift. But I will make it one day soon I hope.

Fly - I'll say a prayer for you and keep you in my thoughts. I hope you can get over the hurdle, whatever it happens to be.

Meliris - 4 lbs down - that's wondeful news.

Nance - Sorry about the typing test. I'm sure you will find something else to suit you tho.

Deb - No I haven't been able to find agave syrup up here. When you said in an earlier post that you would be getting some from Ontario, CA at first I thought you meant Canada. But I assume you meant California. Too bad. I am probably about 15-20 minute drive from Zanne.

JMuir - WELCOME .

Karen3000 - Thanks for the Nutritional Advice - a little humour is good for the soul.

Thanks Cjane for the question on the SGWW bread. It got me checking the label on the one I am using and I find it has some of that bad stuff like corn syrup. I guess I will have to look for another brand. Luckily I haven't been eating much bread lately. I've eaten some whole grain rye bread this week which doesn't contain anything illegal but I am afraid to eat it if I am going to be in close range of other people as the after effects can be really bad. Maybe I should start making my own again but I am just too darn lazy.

Catlover - So sorry to hear about your family's loss.

Solshine - Thanks for the info on the pork. It sounds really yummy. Congrats on the half pound loss. I am sure with your increased exercise routine and cutting out the sweet stuff you should see positive results soon. Just concentrate on the things that are most important for you at this time and don't worry about the other stuff.

All for now. Have to get ready to hit the sack as I have to get up early in the morning.

Marie.

Good Friday Morning All

No walking for me today, at least not for the morning, it seems. Raining here, not bad, but too wet to go out there anyway. May be able to get a walk in sometime later if it clears up a bit and if it's not too hot and muggy. Now I'm glad I didn't take Wed. or Thurs. off as I had planned.

Hmmm, I got on the scale this morning, first it said 123, then it was 123.5, after I got home and stripped, 122.5! I got on that scale 3 times, and still it's showing 122.5! BUT, I'm going to keep it at the 123 for the day, but darn, it's nice seein that 122.5 keep popping up!!! What do you all think??? Should I keep is as is, or take that 122.5 and RUN!!!

I got some information from AVIS at Naturel that I definitely need to pass along, as I believe it's VERY IMPORTANT for those of us who use the AGAVE SYRUP. The specs he sent me included how the agave ranked on the GI scale. It was listed at 39. I e-mailed her and asked her where the discrepancie was and why it's always been found to be 11 on the GI scale. Here is her reply:

As to the glycemic index; it used to be 11, when we used Blue Agaves, as the fructose level was 90%. As of the Summer of 1999, we begin using the wild food agave varieties of pink, green, gray and ash. These are smaller plants, and thus, trunks, and now give us only 71% fructose, so the index went up to 39. The Blue is now exclusively used for tequila only (a necessarily to be a true tequila) due to the higher cost of this raw material.

Just wanted to pass this information along!

ZANNE, the agave syrup can be used in place of sugar/honey in recipes. I personally use it on pancakes instead of syrup (as does my son), and then in baking. If you look at our RECIPE BOARDS you will see all the recipes for desserts I post use agave syrup, at least in about the past year, since I discovered it. My neighbor likes it in her tea instead of using artificial sweetener. If you can find it, you'll love it!!!!

THUNDER, good for you on your walking! You'll find little by little, you'll be going longer and faster. I love to walk! Keep up the great work!

GATOR, you always make me hungry! It's really hard to say-you are too high on your fats. I doubt each day are you too low on your intake, if this was just a once-in-a-while thing, I wouldn't worry about it, but if it's daily, than you will have trouble in the long run. I would say, for at least one day, to keep good track of the cal, carbs, pro and fats and see exactly where you are. I pretty much stay within my targets most days and keeping track lets me see where I am. What is your target in calories for the day??

ROSALIE, I will ask AVIS about the availability of the AGAVE SYRUP-and I was talking about ONATRIO, CANADA! That's where he is That would be great if you and ZANNE could meet up one day!!!!

SEF, I guess whatever you decide to do about the flag issue, it has to come from your own heart-you'll know. We can throw opinions left and right at you, but whatever you feel is right in your own heart-that's what you follow

Gotta run, will check in later. Who wants to take bets to see how many times I jump on that scale today???

Have a wonderful day and a great weekend!

Debelli--Thanks for the input re. the food. Yes, I knew the fat was high. My cal. goal is about 1200. I have been tracking my food on Fitday and noticed that I was always too low on protein. I have been trying to get to the 30-30-40 ratio, but was always down in the 20s with the protein and high in the carbs. The fat was OK, but when I upped the protein, the fat went up too. I try to limit milk because I sometimes wonder if it doesn't aggrevate my post nasal drip. I like cheese OK, esp. cottage cheese, but use the FF only when I make the quiche or something similar. Not too crazy about it otherwise--don't like the texture. And I just hate yogurt. (Except for frozen yogurt!!) So it has been hard to adjust the fat and protein intake to come out right. One thing with that menu I posted--I "added in" an extra T. of olive oil just to be on the safe side for the little bit I put in the pan to start the pork roast and cabbage, so that added to the fat numbers quite a bit.

DH has already left for Gainesville. He has a meeting up there today, so I'll see him late Sat. night when he gets home after the game.

Beachfan--How are you doing this week?

Re. gaining 20 pounds in a year--I know it can be done!! I probably could do it easily because I could eat Ben and Jerry's everyday. Ummmmm--Cherry Garcia---ummmmmm. I was just struck by the almost instant rebound after even a SB "diet." (Pardon the "d" word--this is not a diet, I know!) So I definitely was reminded that this truly has to be a WOE--a W O life. It will take me a bit of time to get used to that idea. I dream of exploring what maintenance means.

Gotta go get dressed. Have to take the cat to the vets.

Karen-
I had to laugh out loud at your post. Will have to print that one out and share it with those who could appreciate it!

Deb-
Pretty soon I am going to be siding with ELI!!!! You better not tell him your numbers on the scale, he might start forced feeding you Haagen-Daz in your sleep! Congratulations....how low are you gonna go?????????? The meeting with Dr. Evil did not go well, long story, and he gave me no $$. Extra incentive to say Buh-Buh A.S.A.P. Thanks for moving my post!!! Couldn't meet Lara, kid was home sick, we're re-scheduling for next week.

Fillise-
The Nancemeister picked herself up, faxed her resume to another job, and dropped her application off for job potential #2 at the school district and is praticing her typing to get that speed up! I will escape from Dr. Evil!!!!

Jmuir and Zanne-
WELCOME!!!! You will enjoy this board. Debbie is a walking SB wealth on information! and the rest of us aren't too bad Looking forward to getting to know you both better!

Liz-
OH MY GAWD!!!!!! I can't believe (yes, I can) that you did so AWESOME on your weight lost this weight!!!! That is FANTASTIC!!!
You must be motivated with a capital "M" right now. You're making me motivated again!

Sef-
Hang the flag proud dag nab it, your DH would have wanted it that way instead of being in a box!

BOB-
I'm sad that I forgot last night was the season premier of Friends...Who's pregnant and by whom? What else was on that I missed???? I'd take a point .2 loss, than a .2 gain anyday. It's the small victories that count as well as the big! Are you still WW with SB?

Well, I need to visit the shower and toothbrush. It's payday Friday yeah!!!! I want to rent Family Man again. Dan the Man hasn't seen it, I thought it was sooooo cute!

Thumbs down Good Firday Morning!

This will be short as I have to finish pricing items for tomorrow's yard sale. It is good to hear from everyone on the board today.

In an act of supreme will power I've not weighed today. I'm just concentrating on the good vibes from trying on all the clothes that are too big and are getting put into the "sell" pile.

The fundraiser was good last night--I got lots of compliments on the weight loss--I guess most of those folks hadn't seen me since January. Another ego stroke at a time I really need it!

I'm with Nance--I need to hear the info on the Friends premier as I missed to too! (Nance--good work on the apps!)

I'll try to get back on later tonight with more personel responses.

Talking Whoohoo!!!

Well, I visited our local Health food store. And guess what? I found the Agave Nectar! Yahoo! I just tried it in my coffee and the coffee was fine. I also picked up some whole wheat flour and sugar free fruit spread. I think I'll be in that store a lot just browsing at all the neat stuff.

Debelli--Thanks for posting that info on the Agave GI this morning. Good to know. I did go into the info board and looked up Agave. You're a very busy girl posting all this info. Also, your stats are incredible!!!! I'm gonna have to keep looking at them for inspiration. Way to Go!

Rosalie--the Agave I bought is '"Cucamonga" Agave Nectar Light'. It is an 8 oz (237ml) squeeze bottle and was $4.89. So at least you know it is available in Canada.

Nancemeister--Thanks for the "welcome". I'm really excited about learning as much as I can from all of you.

I've only been doing this since Monday, but I'm sure I feel better. I don't feel so big and heavy around the upper part of my abdomen. I looked in the mirror this morning and was in disbelief. I had to start feeling myself. What's that bump sticking out? I went to show DH and said "look honey, I can see my ribs!" The scale hasn't budged all week, but I look better, so the weight must be redistributing itself somewhere.

I feel like I have more energy than I did when I started. Gotta get back to exercising and weights. I've kind of dedicated myself this week to finding out as much as I can about this WOE.

I even made myself some legal "chips" last night. Well, ok, they were pita crisps, but they were crunchy and salty, just what I wanted, and I didn't eat nearly as many of those as I used to eat chips.

I am finding this a very easy plan to adapt to. And I guess I'm lucky to have the health food store within walking distance. A lot of stuff there I can eat. I printed off a couple of recipes. I've gotta try the oatmeal cookies. They're my fave.

Well, I better get going to get this place into shape. I have the house to myself. I find I can work faster when I'm alone.

I hope everyone has a lovely day.

My, my where does the time go? I have been popping around here doing this and that and I find it's 11a already! Time for a cuppa coffee with friends.

Yesterday I did my nursing home bit, went to Hobby store and then framed three projects. I did not have to worry about supper as it was a clean out the ridge night. Thank goodness for microwaves! Of course, Lori and I got talking and I never was ready for something to eat until about 8p. Nothing in leftover fridge for me (Does that tell me something?) so I had a delicious supper of ice cream and later some Triscuits. Yeah, I know......but it did taste good!

Because I was gabbing with Lori I missed the Friends show too. Does anyone have the scoop? Did anyone actually watch it?

MEL - Years ago I went with a guy from W. Chester. It was an arranged summer romance by well-meaning friends. I did not like the match-up, he was an international playboy..........roaming hands and rushing fingers. Sorry, old joke! My db lives in Doylestown and I lived 36 years in the Poconos. I do miss my mountains!

KAREN - Loved the post! I had a good laugh, could see some sense in it too!

DEB - You keep dropping all those pounds and Eli will have to shake the sheets to find you!

FILLISE - Good luck with sale. When I moved from PA I had 3, count them, 3 yard sales! I love going to them but HATE holding one. I also had 2 gallery auctions, but at least the gallery people came with their truck and loaded everything up and I did not have to do all that work. Glad you're getting rid of all those toooooooo big clothes.

Time to get busy again. I have 5 more projects to frame. One is a Christmas present. I like to start early you see. Also have to clean up around here before they condemn the upstairs!

The weather has been just wonderful! Real fresh air throughout the house!

Still haven't decided about flag, but I think it's size will determine it for me. If we hang it, I would want to put it so it is not easy to get to. Our roof line isn't really conducive to that unless we block my gd's bedroom windows. Thanx for your input.

See you all later! Enjoyed my cuppa with you!

Hello

Sorry I haven't been on AT ALL. I've been real busy with the family and doug hurt his knee again and we are having surgery on the 5th of October. So i've been the man of the house too. Trying to keep up with everything and keep my head above water.

I've been going to our gym at work for 3 weeks now 3 x's a week and doing well. Have maintained the same weight, but my pants are getting bigger and my legs are getting toner.

Well everyone take care.

Hey Y'All

Thought I'd get in a quick post before I go to pick up Lauren from school. My Mom came over late morning and we ran around for a couple hours-hit the Walmart in Fl. City and I got the hugest Asian pears, and they matched Whole Foods price of .69 cents a piece-their price was 97 cents. They also matched the other Walmarts price on the Dinosaur Eggs, down there they were $3.67 a pound and I got them for $1.48 a pound, I love a bargain!!!

Eli is gonna come home a little early this evening so we can do dinner together-kids are with their Dad-I'm looking forward to our time together, most likely it will be Outback-I can't wait to get my salmon!!!

I had a falafel in pita for breakfast this morning-I am so hooked-they are so filling!!!! We are going through the boxes faster than I could of imagined!

GATOR, I truly don't believe you are getting in enough calories with 1200. I eat 1300-1400 a day, and I know you are taller and not to rub it in, weigh a bit more than I do. I don't know how your weight loss has been recently, but you may find that you do better if you upped your intake a bit-just my opinion of course.

NANCE, I already made the mistake and announced my new low last night to Eli, he really didn't say much, but I know he's not thrilled about it-too bad, I am, and that's what counts more to me! Not to mean I don't care about his opinions, but I have learned that I need to make me happy first-something I never did before, always tried to please the others. At this point, I'd love to get to 119 and that would be it, I don't want to go any lower, but as long as I stay around 124, that would make me happiest. Only when it's TOM would I expect the scale to climb temporarily. I'd like to try my best to mainting 125. When I hit my goal of 129, I knew I'd go another 5 as a cushion, when I got to that cushion, that's where I wanted to stay. I guess now, it's all up to me to work on staying in this area, give or take 5lbs.

FILLISE, my goodness, what willpower you've shown today-no scale, that's okay, I'm sure I made your not being on yours up on mine. Thank goodness Mom came over and I got dressed, I probably saved myself from hopping on there another 20 times-but wouldn't that be something like mini step-aerobics, when you think about it? LOL!! Good luck tomorrow with the garage sale-I'm hoping it doesn't rain so I can hit the ones around here tomorrow.

ZANNE, glad to hear you found the agave, but boy, is that expensive! I am going to ask Avis about pricing up in Canada on the brand they are going to be marketing. How much would that be in USD? Down here I pay on average $2.59-$2.69 a bottle, same brand you got. Sounds like you will be spending lots more time at the HFS there. See if they have a brand called FEARN, they make a wonderful SGWW Pancake Mix that is totally SB LEGAL. I'm glad you are looking around at the other boards-yes, I do keep busy always trying to find vital and informative information to share with the board-gosh knows what would happen when I get a job! I hope when you get the chance you'll go to our BIO BOARD and post your BIO so we can have you on there where others can learn more about you Don't worry about what the scale says, or doesn't say-what's important is the fact that you are feeling better-the scale is secondary. Oh, with the pita chips, they're also great in salad! They also make great mini-pizzas!!!!

SEF, ice cream and triscuits? What, are you pregnant? I'm surprised you didn't have pickles with that combo!! Hmmm, shake the sheets to find me, don't I wish! Now, we do have to shake the sheets to see where my saggy boobs are laying-not a pretty sight when I'm flat on my back!

RALY, thanks for checking in, you know I get worried when I don't hear from people in a week or two! Sorry to hear about Doug, but wishes for him that all should go well for his surgery. Keep us informed!!

Time to go get Lauren. Will check in with you all later this evening!!

Toodles

Debbie
