Default Hypoglycemia and a Low GI diet

Hello,
I have been hypoglycemic for some time now. I was diagnosed with it when i was pregnant about 5 years ago, but my doctor acted like it was no biggie and didn't really tell me to change anything. I'm not really overweight, but do struggle to keep my weight stable. I know I'm addicted to sugar and fattening foods, I crave them all the time. I've been researching the low GI diet and many websites say that eating a low GI diet can actually help curb your cravings for sugar and fat. I'd really like to try this because the past two years I've been feeling very tired and just not myself. To me it's not even about losing weight at this point, I just want to feel good. I know it's my diet that's making me feel this way. So I have a few questions. I'm a little confused about carbs and low GI. How can you tell when something is low GI? Can you tell by the carb count, or does that not matter? Most websites I found just said to eat high fiber cereals and breads, fruit was ok except pineapple, raisins, watermelon, etc. Lean meats are good. But what about packaged foods like soups? Obviously crackers, cookies, and all that stuff is out. What about coffee or tea, does that affect blood sugar? Any help? Pretty please.... Thanks in advance!
