Wow Dana - was that Atkins or something?? I know what cha' mean about the butter and mayo.....I love shiny food!!!

I'm sure banana's convert to sugar fast, I'm always tired after I eat one. I can tell you from experience that the sweet potatoe "fries" taste just as good as the fry fries. Also my hunch is is that there is very little nutrition because of the heavy frying. You could bake 'em though.

Solly: Holy - I just looked at your weight loss thingie and you've lost tons and tons of weight - do you feel way better?

Hello everyone. My son got home from Iraq last night. I've got to call him soon but wanted him to get settled in a bit. And Steve is asleep in his recliner so I'll wait till he wakes up.

Monet- My smoothies are so simple and good. I use 1/2 cup nonfat or lowfat vanilla yogurt, 1/2 cup unsweetened apple juice and 3/4 cup frozen fruit in the blender. I love frozen cherries in it. But blueberries or anything else is good to. Sorry about the urn. I hope this one comes out really good.

Mercee- good to see you again...

Ray- Your soup sounds so good. Wish I had a pot cooking away.

danasgirl- Welcome to the board. How do you make your smoothies?

heartmom- I had a bad eating week end to. Half good half bad.

Solly- I need some crockpot recipes for chicken too. I've got one I found last night I might try.
Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Stew
Poultry Mexican Dinner
Submitted by GINGERFISH

I love this stew! It is so easy and leaves me feeling satisfied. I use 3/4 cup as a serving. If it is too spicy for you, substitute a can of diced tomatoes for one of the diced tomatoes w/chilies.

Ingredients

1 onion, chopped
1 16-oz can black beans
1 16-oz can kidney beans
1 16-oz can corn (drained)
1 8-oz can tomato sauce
2 14.5-oz cans diced tomatoes w/chilies
1 1.25-oz packet taco seasoning
1-2 boneless skinless chicken breasts
Directions

Mix everything together in a slow cooker except chicken. Lay chicken on top and cover. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. 30 minutes before serving, remove chicken and shred. Return chicken to slow cooker and stir in. This is good eaten with cheese, sour cream, or tortilla chips.

Anyway it looked good to me.

Well got to run and call my SON!!!

Opps I noticed this had corn in it. I would just leave this out. This kind of sounds like that taco soup I love.

S/C/G: 24 lbs. lost

Hello all, I have been sailing along, patting myself on the back.
I even lost a couple of pounds in the last few days. Then Bingo,
I found myself eating something I shouldn't, in fact two something's
I shouldn't. This is an on going problem for me. The inability to
stick with a eating program. I go along for days doing great
then blow it. How do I learn to keep myself from sabotaging my
own plans? Thanks to all of you who welcomed me. I see some of
you are doing quite well with your eating, congratulations to you
on that. SMW

I got on the scale today - and I'm the same as I was last week - 186. I had been careful in what I ate this week, but I'm thinking maybe I've been eating too much of the "right" foods. I also didn't realize we're only supposed to eat two starches a day - I've been doing more than that.

So this week, I'm going to cut back a bit on the starches and see if that makes any difference. Are beans and lentils considered starches or protein?I've seen them refered to as both.

So far today:

Breakfast: 1 poached egg / 1/4 cup of homemade granola with a little All Bran added / plus milk

Snack: Yogurt & applesauce

Lunch is going to be: Pork stir fried with cabbage/onions/tomatoes/zuchinni and some kind of squash that somebody gave me.

Hope you all have a good day.

I have been keeping a running tally in my head of points, which is a
weight watchers way of counting calories. I think I am going to start
writing them down. I don't always sit down and eat things properly
off of a plate as I should. Instead I will eat one thing and then eat
something else. Not always, but sometimes. It may take me a while
to break myself of the habit of keeping a tally and trust that eating
the right foods is enough in it 'self. I don't worry so much abut the
fat/carbs/protein thing. I figure if I stick with the right foods in normal
proportions that will be OK. Even when I fell off the wagon yesterday
I did not eat sugar. I had a white hamburger bun and french fries but
kept my head and didn't order anything sweet. For a gal who loves
anything sweet this was better than I usually do. I am going to keep
trying. SMW

Hi SMW,

Sounds like you are doing great in spite of your obstacles.

I find that when I eat anything white or fried stuff it still spikes my blood sugar - in other words it behaves and converts to glucose just as fast as mainline sugar. This then creates the big yawning jaws of CRAVE. When I eat food that is low glycemic, like that slow burning carb foods - I feel full for a long long long time. This is waaaaaaayyyyy better for me but then there's the emotional edge and that's another story.......

Toni41. I make mine using fruit, 2% milk, ice & splenda. I added some whey powder to make me full longer. It didn't help at all
Ray of light: No, I didnt do atkins. I know that we are supposed to use lean meats instead of fried meats. I fried everything. I ate a whole lot of regular bacon and sausage. I didnt opt for the low sodium or turkey anything. I used a lot of butter and heavy whipping cream in my oatmealThis time I would like to use veggie products. I love the veggie italian "sausage". they really taste like a sausage dog. My question is, what can I do for my chocolate sweet tooth other than sf ice cream? I used to buy these candy bars from walmart. they dont sell them anymore.

I guess we were posting at the same time Hi to you.
SMW- I think we all have times like that. Somtimes I've been good the whole day and late at night eat something crazy. But I have learned to just keep going and not it as a reason to start over.(like I use to)

Hi Mercee

I'm doing o.k. How 'bout yourself.

I'm right into our challenge and want to see results in 2008. My 21 year old son says "it's gettin' old Mom, you either lose weight or 'ya don't." He's right. It's getting old and I'm getting old. It's best to live the rest of my life slender, healthy and GORGEOUS!!!!!!

Thumbs up Happy Monday

Hope you were all a bunch of LOSERS today!! I weighed in at Curves after work and I've lost 1.5 pounds since Wednesday when I got my bootie back to the gym! So that's good news for me!!

SOLLY - You're absolutely right... it give me a LOT of motivation to stay OP and to be dedicated to hitting the gym because it means NO SHOTS!! It's also great not to have to take the pills, because they give me an upset tummy sometimes. So I'm really going to do everything I can to continue to be successful so he will let me keep being meds free! Plus the better I keep my levels, the less chances of the future problems diabetes causes!!

SMW - We have ALL been there! It's so hard to pass up foods that we've gotten in the habit of eating for so long. I often catch myself reaching for a bite of something just out of habit and have it halfway to my mouth before I realize what I'm doing! Don't get discouraged!! Slips are normal and it doesn't mean you have failed!!! Just chalk it up to OOPS, and make your next food choice a healthy one. They say it takes 3 weeks to make something a habit... and you'll be ignoring those bad foods before you know it! STICK WITH IT!! You're gonna do great!!!

I don't know if any of the newer people have heard of it, but a GREAT tool to keep up with what you're eating and track how much of each food you need/have eaten is FITDAY.COM. I love it, it's really easy to use and it helps me keep track of what I've eaten, and where I need to improve. It also has a place for you to put what you weigh and how much you wanna lose and how long it will take. You can also log exercise, and journal what's up in your life. It's just a really nice site.

MONET - Sorry about the urn... hope the new one turns out as good as that one did!!

TONI - I'm so glad your son is home safe and sound!! I know you're glad!!

For everyone else... hope your week started off great, and continues that way!! I'm off to eat my grilled chicken, green beans and brown rice
