Ricotta creme alternative?
I know I must be crazy but I really don't like the Ricotta cremes.
Everyone seems to really like them but they are not for me. I like the flavour but I don't like the texture of the ricotta. Maybe it is the brand of ricotta I purchased. Could I do the same thing to low fat yogurt? |
I can't see any reason why not. Just buy low fat plain yogurt and sweeten it or use low fat vanilla yogurt. You could add nuts or essences to flavour it. I used to be totally addicted to vanilla and hazelnut and Cafe Latte flavoured lite yogurts. They sound OP but they are really high in Carbohydrates so I am not risking it.

I am not crazy about the texture of the ricotta either. I thin it with a little water and beat it until smooth and it is MUCH better. Also, a little goes a long way!
|
I have tried putting it in my food processor, which makes it creamier. It can also be improved by adding a little no-sugar whip topping or some sugar free/fat free pudding.
|
I add some pasteurized egg white - the kind that comes in a carton.
|
Thanks for all the great tips. I will try them.

aargh, I wish I could buy more dairy products...my little five year old is severely allergic so we try to keep tempting dairy out of the house. I rarely eat it, because she watches me longingly when I do. Just skim milk for me.

Vanilla non-fat Sugar Free yogurt is one of my favorites :T
|
I added a bit of ff cream cheese and it made it smoother. I didn't think we were allowed to have yogurt on Phase 1.
|
Wendyjo, please read the FAQ section. There have been some additions to Phase I and yoghurt IS allowed.

Thanks Ruth.
