Report for Furlough...Day 3
Okay, troops...time to check in! The weekend is here, and that presents special challenges to overcome!
Update from yesterday:
1. Get as much sleep as humanly possible (I am so tired I feel sick, and I know I make bad choices when I am exhausted) Got a great day's sleep!
2. Drink, drink, drink....and I don't mean wine. So-so...but improving.
3. Exercise, exercise, exercise...and i DO mean exercise! Now THIS I did...2 mi WATP, weights, and then 1.75 mi on the treadmill at work.
4. Spend some time with Mack, my 7 yr old DS. I barely got to see him at all yesterday. ME time is great, but I miss my guy! We worked out together....what a sight that is!
For the weekend:
1. Get some structure...plan my meals and make sure I eat.
2. Water....get some lemons to put in and maybe a pretty glass.
3. Find a way to work out even though Andi is home and staying in "my" exercise room! This could really be a huge challenge!
And my challenge to you for the weekend? Try something new. A new veggie (artichokes? fennel? arugula?), a new recipe, a new color lipstick, a new exercise, a new hobby, anything new. Try to experience the fun of doing something for the first time! Break out or your box this weekend!
Good luck recruits!

Well, I did stay calm cool and collected and got all my cooking done on time. I drank some water but not as much as planned.
Today is a quieter day. I will eat clean and drink a glass of water on the hour for the morning and afternoon. I will put 1000 more steps on my pedometer from yesterday's pitiful total of 4000! I was just too busy to work in a walk.
New veggie? I think I've tried them all. Maybe I'll try a new recipe.

Goals from yesterday:
1. Plan ahead for meals and snacks and eat what I should in the portions that I should. I did this....planned for each meal/snack that I ate yesterday.
2. Water.....I buy bottled water in 24-ounce bottles. I will drink at least three full bottles today. Drank 3 bottles of water, plus one bottle of caffeine free diet coke.
3. I am off from work today (for a nice long weekend), and I plan to do some deep cleaning this weekend. Today I will tackle the kitchen and laundry room. Whew.....forgot how much work it is to clean cabinets, etc in even a small kitchen! Kitchen is done, even rearranged some of the cupboards (now let's see if I can remember where I moved things to), and it looks fabulous! It's clean enough......to eat out of! Didn't do the laundry room yesterday, will tackle that today.
4. Exercise.....if I have any energy left after cleaning, I'll take the dogs for a nice long walk. Counted my cleaning yesterday as my exercise.....I'm actually a little stiff today from all of the bending and stretching.
5. Look through cookbooks for some fun new recipes to try over the long weekend, shop for groceries, and plan meals for the next few days. Did this except for the shopping part.....found some interesting new recipes to try this weekend, made a shopping list, and will do the shopping today.
Goals for today:
1. Continue with my goals from yesterday (cleaning, eating OP, water).
2. Do a ME thing.
3. My new thing for the day will be one of the new recipes that I'm planning to try.

Hi All,
Did great with my previous goal. Lost that pesky pound I had gained.
My challenge for today:
Drinking water.
Staying OP
I'm going to a BBQ today. I'm praying they will have green salad and meat without BBQ sauce on it already. I don't think I'll have a problem passing other items up, except if that is all there is. Will drink water if they don't have any diet drinks.
Good luck to all.

Hi: made my yesterday goals, but today was my weigh in with the metal monster and I had gained a #. So I guess it is back to phase 1, and forget the pistashios.
My goals : To stick to phase 1.
To forget about nuts.
Continue to do my exercise.
Continue to drink the water I need.
I did try something new for today. I will let you know how it turns out. I made a cream of asparagus soup, for staying OP. Made from scratch, with the help of canned asparagus.
Lets all hang in there. Ann

Roll Call
Marcie- 4 stars for the NSV! Don't you just love thrift stores and consignment shops? I may just have to swing by my fav today and see what I can find!
Ellis-like your attitude! Let us know what veggie you ferret out!
Ruthie-remember, like the scale, the pedometer doesn't tell the whole tale! Cooking like a fiend is hard work, and staying away from all the goodies you create must be even harder!
sflake-look at it this way...if you were in the major league you'd be batting .500! You'll do even better this weekend since you are planning for the rough times by shopping. I hope the Memorial Mass for your mother is a helpful, healing time. We'll be sending good thoughts.
Private 2dog...you are hearby awarded the Beach Medal of Honor for dedication above and beyond the call of duty. It sounds like you had a great day!
TJ-We knew you could do it...now keep up the good work!
Private GoFishin'-You are hearby awarded the Hoochie Mama Medal of Distinction for your obvious achievements in this area! You go girl!
den-soldier, when you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen...and go have some fun!
Kristina-that's what we like to see! Make a plan, THEN execute! Good strategy, recruit!
Lizzie-WTG meeting your goals! Now don't get too caught up in what the metal monster says! The scale is not always your friend. I play a game with mine...I get on it morning and night and write down what it says: I have discovered how CRAZY it can be...gain 4 pounds in 3 hours? I don't think so.
My plan for the weekend:
My 20 yr old DD is home from college, and we are having her beau over for dinner. Poor college kids need a decent meal, so we are making Bouilliabaise (I can't spell it, but hopefully I can cook it!), grilled artichokes w/tomato vinagrette and a garden salad. I'll make a cheese plate and desert will be Chocolate Ricotta Dream. Fairly OP, which will make up for the not so OP stuff I ate this morning. Yeah, I know....drop and give you 20!
A trip to the sporting goods store for wrist weights, and the library should just about finish the day. I want to find a great glass for water, too. Something special and pretty. Oh, and work out. :sigh:
I need to develop a plan for tomorrow. Nothing special going on, which is bad bad bad. I do better with some structure.
As for the weekend challenge, I think Bouilliabaise will count for something new, as I have never made it. Tomorrow I am going to break out the 4 mile WATP tape!
Hope you all have a wonderful and goal meeting kind of weekend!

Ellis: No such luck to pick the asparagus. Just used the canned. It turned out very well. At least I like it. I can't test it on my DH because he hates asparagus. Here goes.
I sauted about a TBS of onion in pn sprayed with buttery spray. Next grated a small tender zucchini with the onion and a dash of garlic powder. I poured in a little chicken broth to cook the zucchini a little without burning. Meanwhile I took one 15oz. can of asparagus and whizzed the whole thing in my food processor. When the Zucchini was crisp tender, poured in the rest of the 14 oz.can of chicken broth, the asparagaus and and brought the mixture to a slow boil for just a minute or two. For seasoning I used some whole rosemary, about 1/2 tsp, and some dried basil, 1/2. Turned off the heat and let it stand to flavor. After it was cool, added 1/4 cup of non-fat half and half. When it was time for lunch, i filled a mug, nuked it long enough to warm. It was very good. I think another time I would used ground rosemary rather than the whole, since I had to pick out all those stems :.
Can you tell I am not a cook who carefully measures everything. So my amounts of herbs will have to be 'to taste'. didn't need to add any salt as there was enough in the broth and asparagus. It sure was simple enough to do, and I think right on program.
I expect you could use any herb you really liked. if any of you try it, let me know what you think. Ann
