Default Exercise and carbs

Should I be increasing my carb intake before or after exercise? I'm in Phase 1 and feel good but wonder if I should be increasing (consuming about 25 carbs/day) b/c of my boot camp and zumba classes. Any thoughts?

Are you on South Beach or WW? If WW, perhaps you can find an answer there or in the Exercise part of the Forum. South Beach does not count carbs but focuses on good carbs.

I'm doing SB now but had done WW previously (the past 3 yrs). I thought there was a limit on how many carbs to eat daily on SB phase 1.

Even on Phase 1, if I remember correctly, you don't count carbs because beans are allowed in phase 1 (not all beans) and those have a high amount of carbs. Even peas and lentils are allowed which have a higher carb count.

In fact, on SBD I don't think you even need to count calories, but you can if you want. I personally track my calories and carbs because I use myfitnesspal, but it's not a requirement. As long as you are eating till you are satisfied when hungry then you shuld be fine.

As for your question, as long as you are personally feeling okay, I wouldn't increase carb intake.

I found I felt best exercising through PH1 when I was sure to eat beans. I think much of this is about how you respond personally.
