Default What did your South Beach weight loss progress look like?

Hello! I'm 20 years old, and I'm about 5' 0". I weighed my self recently and discovered that I am 150, the heaviest that I have ever been. My mom gave me her South Beach diet book because she lost a bunch of weight a few years ago on the program, so I decided to give it a try. I would really like to lose at least 10 - 15 pounds by Christmas, which is a month. I read in the book that it is possible to lose between 8 - 13 pounds in the first phase alone, so a little more weight could even be possible.

I was just wondering if anyone else on here has tried South Beach and what your weight loss in Phase 1 was like, as well as if it continued in Phase 2.

Hello there! You may get some more specific answers by posting this in the South Beach forum on the site instead of general diet support. Then you'll be hitting the highest concentration of SB-ers to help you.

It's definitely possible to lose that much in a month on South Beach, but I'm guessing that it's much less likely w/ as little as you actually have to lose.

There's lots of threads re: how fast we lost weight on SBD. The less you have to lose, the slower you lose it (like anything!), and SB is a as much as a change in the way of eating as a diet.

I had 20 lbs to lose, I lost 6 lbs the first week, gained back one the second week, and lost an average of 1 lb week.

Good luck, and check in often if you decide to try it!

Welcome, I lost 12 on Phase 1, but I know I carried a lot of water weight. With that being said I lost 1-2 pounds a week on Phase2. The key for me is balance. If I have an off plan day (who doesn't around the holidays) I kick up my workout that day. SB has become a way of life for me. If you follow the guidelines it does work, but you have to work at maintaining your progress. Losing for me was a lot easier than maintaining

The more you have to lose, the fast you lose initially. I lose 8 the first 2 weeks, then about 1-2 every 2 weeks thereafter. Hit a stall at 30 pounds lost (and that took 8 months).

It's different for everyone - this really is a lifestyle change and not a quick fix.

S/C/G: maintaining

I have done PH1 several times and never had a lot to lose. I typically lost 5 pounds, most in the first week. Then my weight loss was usually only about a half pound a week.

I suggest you also measure yourself. Sometimes you lose inches when the scale seems to be stuck.

I've always had the most success with this plan when I focused on what I was eating (or NOT eating), rather than a goal of a number on the scale. Weight loss is rarely linear and no matter how well we follow any plan, we can never control the scale, only our own behavior. When I stay OP, I feel so much better, physically and mentally.

Best to you!

It has taken me a year and a half to lose 23-27 pounds but I exercise a lot and have gained a lot of muscle. Plus, this is me not being consistent every month and strength training a lot. But I used to be a size 10-12 and now am a size 4
