I am off to do the survey now! At my highest weight I was a 42G but now I'm a 32DDD. I don't need to worry about best brands because there are about 3 companies that even bother with this size, all online, of course, and inconsistent. It's so frustrating.

The reason I mention the Survey is that so far the vast, vast majority of women who are at a healthy BMI (or close to it) have underbusts of 32" or less (the largest so far was 35") and I really do have a large range of heights and frame sizes. Make sure to pull the measuring tape tight, though, when you measure.

I've had a lot of luck with Ambrielle bras. From my largest (a 40DD) to now (a 32B), They've fit well and been super supportive.
I did wear a lot of lingerie and undergarments from LB and they were always really great quality.

have you been refitted? I didn't start to lose in my cupsize until about mid-way through my loss, and that was right about the time I stopped breast feeding as well....and then went buh-bye.

It was the same for me for what felt like a very, very long time. Then all of a sudden I dropped a couple of cup sizes out of the blue (of course, right after I had ordered some new bras online ).

Wow! I've learned a lot reading this thread and reading your blog, Runningfromfat--I have a question though--how do you measure across the fullest part of your bust?? Because to be blunt mine aren't exactly sticking out in front of me like they did 15 or 20 years ago.
I just have an average sized bust but I've been buying the same sizes for years, just out of habit and I know they don't fit well.

I love love love LB bras. I wear the balconette style and the "t-shirt" styles, both soft and firm cups. I find them to last a long time (I usually wear mine for a year before I get new ones, and they hold up fine). I always get a ton when they have they're buy-two-get-two sales.

I bought a Cacique bra and hated it. It is by far the most uncomfortable bra I've ever owned. If fit me well but stabbed me in the arms. I ended up with bruises and refused to wear it again.

I hear you (and, btw, a well-fitting bra will help give you the support and lift you need because I don't exactly have naturally perky breasts either! ). On my fitting page I give a few other methods for measuring beside standing up. You can:
- lay on your back without a bra on and measuring around your breast (across the nipples)
- bend forward until your back is parallel to the ground and measure around your bust
- without a bra on bend for so your back is parallel to the floor and measure around the perimeter of your largest breast. Then sign up for bratabase and you'll actually get recommendations for bras that fit other users with your measurements.
I'm glad that the info was able to help you and if you have any other questions feel free to ask!

OK I measured, and I am about 34.5 underneath my girls. So do I go for a 36? I'm guessing I may actually be a 36DD or E.

I'd probably round down to a 34, honestly. You're going to get more use out of the bra that way (and if you find it too tight you can always wear a bra extender briefly). If you were a 35 I'd suggest trying both a 36 and 34 but since you're closer to a 34 try that first. Then you'd most likely be a 34E/34F.
In terms of tightness you want to be able to fit two fingers underneath the back but not your whole hand. Also the center gore should sit flat against your chest. Good luck!!!

OK one last thing - I measured around the fullest part of my bust with a bra on and it was 41.5. So what cup size do you reckon?

Thanks Runningfromfat--I'll try that and as soon as I'm finished with P1 I'm going to treat myself (and my teenager) to some new bras!
I never really worried about my bra before because I'm not busty enough to have any kind of discomfort, etc from a bad bra. But I saw the pictures in your blog and the well-fitted bra made such a difference, even in the smaller busted model.

Mmckellen I would try 34F/FF (UK sizes) 34G/H (US sizes) initially. Good luck!!!!
MissusTaterHead - I'm glad it helped and I really hope you find bras for both yourself and your teen!!
