Newbie here!
Hi,
I just started the south beach diet yesterday! I'm on day 2 of P1. I weight 174 (size 16) and want to get down to 130 (size 6). I was very skinny until college, when I got on anti-depressants and gained 30 lbs. in 3 months. I've been fighting my weight even since then. I also struggle with PCOS. I am 33-year old wife and mother of a pre-schooler. Still trying to figure out how to make separate meals for RIDICULOUSLY picky husband and (not as picky) child?
Looking forward to this journey!
Thanks for reading

to The Beach! Check out our recipe section for a wealth of great recipes to keep you satisfied and motivated. The Taco Bake in the Phase 1 entrees is one of our most popular recipes, and something your entire family can enjoy.
Good luck, and we look forward to getting to know you.

Welcome! In my house it was the opposite - my husband would eat pretty much anything but my kids... yikes, they were picky.

Glad you're here! I'm new too. Just finished Phase 1.
My husband is a vegetarian, so I know about balancing different menus!

Welcome! I eased my hubby into this lifestyle slowly and he's never felt better...it's possible, I think. We're in our 50's, though, so I certainly used the "health" benefits to persuade him.

Welcome! I just started last week at 172 lbs and today I was 165 so its worth it! my husband and children don't follow the diet with me but I make meals where I can pull out a portion that doesn't require carbs. Like making baked chicken so i can just take my part and then they get more things added in to fill themselves up. Or I make tacos and then I just make my own taco and leave off the shell kind of thing.

Wow thanks everyone!! You all are so supportive already! I already bought the ingredients for the Taco Bake today
So today I learned that starting the Beach while sick will not work. I wasn't prepared enough with foods on hand and had to eat what was in our house ( my daughter was sick too and we couldn't go grocery shopping for a few days). Finally made it today and on our way home, my blood sugar dropped too low and I couldn't see right and almost fainted I ate 3 times by 6pm, but clearly it wasn't enough.
So, needless to say, I had to drink soda and scarf down carbs. Back to the drawing board. At least now I have the proper ingredients on hand!!

Welcome!
And be aware that when you first start the SBD diet you may experience the 'flu'. Symptoms are weakness, headache, nausea and a general feeling of unease. It lasts 2-3 days. Last time I did the SBD I experienced this on day 3-4 and this time it hit me on day 1 and I'm on day 2 and still feeling that way. From experience, if you just stick it out the symptoms disapear and you start to feel good. So keep that in mind because even having all the ingredients may not head it off.

It actually can work. But you are right, you need to be prepared. Keep nuts with you in your bag (I like the 100 calorie ones) and a bottle of water. I almost always have string cheese on hand too.
You can do it!
