Hello 3FC South Beachers!!!

I plan on starting South Beach tomorrow and hoping for some words of wisdom. I'm not new to 3FC but I AM new to the SB forum. I have read a lot about this plan in the past when I was looking for a way out of my fat-cage. I ended up doing Atkins and losing about twenty lbs but then gaining them back and then some. Sometimes weight loss is about trial and error just like everything else in life... so here I am, trying once again. I've also tried winging it pretty much with calorie counting but that definitely is not the plan for me either.

I really want to be healthy... if all continues to go well, I will be a nurse in less than a year and I need to set an example for my patient's, I just feel like their is a big cloud of irony surrounding the idea of an overweight nurse, it is important to practice what you preach. Any advice is welcome. I know I need to read the book, and I plan to, but I still want to go ahead and start tomorrow while I'm full of resolve.

Hi Lucky and welcome! I'm pretty new myself over from Atkins as well. Tried that plan for a few months, it just turned out not to be the right one for me. I went a long while without the scale moving when I found SBD. After months of struggling to get that scale moving, I came on here and the weight is just melting off! I love SBD. I did a few days on P1 but because i was so clean really in my eating and no cravings since starting atkins, I decided to go to P1.5 really, and thats when I saw a huge difference . And you will feel great, it's such an incredibly healthy way of eating! Good luck to you, I'm sure you will do great on SB ...and in your nursing endeavors as well!

I'm new today too! We can embark on this weight loss journey together! I love how you refer to the "fat cage". It really does feel like being in a cage! I was so skinny most of my life and now I'm a size 16. Definitely feels like being trapped!!! Let's escape

My best advice is to make friends with your local farmers market, and base your meals around the vegetables. The farmers market has opened my eyes to trying new vegetables I wouldn't have tried otherwise (brussel sprouts and kohlrabi to name a few) and how produce should really taste. (I don't know what that thing is they sell at Safeway, but it is not really a nectarine!) Plus, they are so cheap it is ridiculous.

Also, basing my meals around vegetables has made things so interesting! There are always new veggies to try, with new ways to cook them. Don't even get me started on all the ways I can cook a cauliflower. Plus, they have so much fiber that I am stuffed, and I have truly learned to crave them. Even when I've had my off plan mini benders, I find myself craving vegetables, and a meal without them just feels off.
