Terrified....Phase 1....Saturday "High Tea"

  • Have been invited to a "High Tea" which will have a 5 course small portioned things, example, "cucumber soup," etc. Wondering how do I handle this? I am in phase 1. I don't want to pack my own snacks since I think that would be tacky! lol. Thanks!!!
  • Hmm....where is it going to be held? We go to High Tea at a nice hotel in Denver and we certainly wouldn't bring our own nor would much of anything be P1 friendly.

    Is it an event that would be held again that you could politely decline now?

    Sorry...not much help but guess I'd need a little more information.
  • Nope it is a fundraiser my mom is helping with and has asked me to go. So I'm going to go and pray for the best. It is at our church also.

    Why do I think they're really after an aristocratic "afternoon tea" experience rather than a "high tea"?

    Shame, because the latter sounds more friendly to what I understand to be South Beach Phase 1. (I'm not a Beacher but like a lot of the recipes, particularly from Kalyn's Kitchen.)
  • Do you actually need to eat at it? Have a good lunch before hand and then sit and sip your tea. Or even better, it it is a fundraiser, get up and help.

    Look at the menu beforehand. Something like cucumber soup likely fits in. Otherwise, go prepared to chat, just ignore the food and be ready to say firmly and politely, 'oh it looks all so lovely but i'm not hungry right now'. Repeat as often as needed. (which may be very, very often).

  • To be honest I declined a get together while I was in Phase One to avoid the carbfest that it was. Sad, but I had to do it.

    If it's a fundraiser try to get yourself involved and stay on your feet, filling up those teacups and helping out. Eat a healthy meal before hand?

    Or claim to be ill and not eat anything. Terribly hard though if you're sitting looking at all those goodies!
