Default Shaky and wanting to be sick?

So I went for a hike this morning. It was fairly simple (though I was huffing a puffing the whole time) about 3.5 miles, and two places where there was quite a climb. On the way home I started feeling sick, and very shaky. I got in the house and laid down right away, and felt better. I got in the shower and not 2 minutes into it I sat in the shower and could not open my eyes. I forced myself to get up, and shut off the water. I went to my bed towelless and dripping as I could not do anything else. I laid down for 10 minutes, and now I am laying on the couch. I still feel shaky and my heart rate is still up. This has never happened to me before, and I am unsure of what to do. Yes, I am fat however I am not in terrible shape as far as exercise and stuff goes. Any advice?

Did you have breakfast? Did you stay hydrated? I know dehydration makes me feel nauseous and like I'm going to pass out.

Are you still early in Phase 1? That could definitely cause some problems with more intense exercise. Maybe have some yogurt/dairy or beans and see if that helps?

I hope you start feeling better very soon.

I have have had a steadfast rule since starting my quest for an all around healthy lifestyle; I do not leave home before having breakfast. Now my everyday breakfast is a protein/greens/fruit smoothie which means all I have to do it pitch the stuff in and drink it...but still...I do it. No Choice...especially before a semi-strenuous hike.

My blood sugar is so stable now that I can, if I have to, go until noon without food, but I couldn't at first...I used to shake and get sick if I missed my between meal snack.

One of the do it's of SBD is 3 meals with snacks inbetween and I'd guess there's a specific reason for it.

I know exactly what you are talking about, from time to time this happens to me, something i have lived with for as long as i can remember, even as far back as childhood, i have yet to be able to pin it down to anything concrete.

You feel absolutely like there is no energy whatsoever, every expended movement is a forced chore, i've tried explaining it once or twice before but it defies explanation really, upon recovery it lingers leaving you feeling weakened for a time but thankfully vanishes. I used to think it was maybe blood sugar levels but i'm more apt to think it could be low heart rate causing the problem, still unsure. Has yet to really cause any harm although last time it hit i was about 3 miles from home walking so had to dig as deep as i could to return which was horrible, been a while knock on wood.

Hope you feel better shortly.

I've heard that when it comes to hydration, what really matters is the amount of water you drink the day BEFORE the work out. Not sure exactly physiologically how that works but it makes sense. Water during or after a work out helps to quench your thirst and cool you off, but the water your body, your cells and muscles need, needs to be taken in ahead if time. It's not an instant process. If someone knows more factually on this, id love to hear about it.

The one time I had similar symptoms, it was an extreme low blood sugar episode. Having not had breakfast, you may have bottomed out. If you ate something and felt better, that's a pretty good indicator.

Thanks everyone, I think it was probably my blood sugar. After having eaten I feel much better. I don't think I was dehydrated as I have been drinking almost a gallon of water each day, for a long time (months). Whew I am glad that feeling is gone.

You've got to eat something in the morning before you go out and exercise. You definitely had a low blood sugar episode. Next time have something like a hard boiled egg and some nuts before you go out. You need fuel, just like a car.

I agree w/ the other ladies...sounds like a low blood sugar episode. I have had this happen before and it's always been when I haven't eaten for a while.

I agree about the low blood sugar. Sorry you had to go through it, but glad you didn't get sick on the trail. I've thrown up a few times during long runs because I didn't fuel properly before I left. It's really important!
