Got my Bodymedia Fit!!!!

  • Okay, so I got it on Friday night. Wore it and Wow!! I burned 3597 calories in one day. That accounts for all movement etc. They say I should eat 2160 in order to get the defecit (I should have burned 3160 but went over) of 1000 calories. Too high a defecit results in weight loss stall (I guees). So, I should have eaten 2597 calories. How the heck will I manage that??? So the calorie estimates the lose it app gave said just under 1500 and this says 2160??? And I only managed to eat 1761 and that was hard!!!!! I have no idea if this is right or works but I'll give it my best shot for a few weeks before making any adjustments and I will update you all!!!!
  • OK. What on earth is this thing?
  • I'll be curious to see how it goes. I've debated getting one or something similar because I was stalled for so long despite being in a calorie deficit based on my online tracking.
  • LOL!!! It's an armband that you wear that tells you how many calories you burn from sleeping to working out and everything in between....google it and check Amazon. It's pricey but I've waited for it a long time and well.... we'll see how it goes! I will surely keep you posted on this thread!!!!

Karen, me too. My calories were around 1400-1600 and I was't losing the 2 lbs per week I should have despite my efforts, so we'll give this a try! It does say I need more calories (concurrent with most body building estimates, too) so I'll try bumping up. My goal is 1900 for now and yesterday I didn't even come close!!!! Really hard with clean foods....way easier with bad food I used to eat.
  • Validity of the armband!
    Hi Kristen!
I just thought I would let you know. i worked on the clinical trials at the University of Pittsburgh that validated the armband (body media is based in Pittsburgh). You should expect a 15% error rate to be safe (we saw anywhere from 8-22%, but 15% was the median. So, if it says you burned 3000 calories, I'd base my eating off of 2550. If you are trying to lose a lb a week, that would come out to 2050 calories per day, which I'm sure you know you should maybe cut a little lower to make up for human error. Overall, it IS the most accurate device, except for seated exercises, and it tends to overestimate any exercises using lots of arm movements. If you have any more questions about it, let me know! :-)

Thanks so much! I did read that. My highest calorie day was 1987 (and it was hard to get to) on my highest calorie burn day. I check it throughout the day (iphone app....<3 ) and adjust dinner and snacks accordingly. It takes about a month or so to get it right for you. I will keep everyone posted!!!

Thank you! My burn was low yesterday ( 2846)...my day off from work and working out so I counsumed 1778....1068 defecit. I think that's where I want to be. Yup...I wear it right on my tricep...where they say! This little gadget is fun!!!
  • My hubby got me mine for Christmas and I LOVE it! I love having the watch monitor too - I wear it when I work out and it keeps me moving so I can watch "live" what I am burning. The app is also great on smartphones - having the food journal helps me keep on track. I highly recommend it. For me, it was eye opening to be able to see and track everything. Love it!
  • How has your defecit been CJhawkgirl? Do you stay in their 1000 calorie deficit?

Well I have been off and on the past couple of months. I would do great for a couple of weeks and then totally crash and burn the next couple of weeks. I just started South Beach last Sunday and I've been doing great and keeping the 1000 cal deficiet. I didn't workout this past week but plan to this week now that I feel like I'm adjusting to the diet. Like you, I am a little worried about eating enough though. Right now, I'm eating about 1000-1100 cals per day and says I burn arnd 2500 w/o exercise. Once I start working out, it will be around 3,000 cals burned and I want to eat enough so that I don't put my body in starvation mode. So, we'll see how all this works out this week. BUT, I do like being able to track and see everything. It's great.

This morning when I weighed, I was down 5 lbs so I will be interested to see if I can get to 6 lbs down for my 1 week weight loss for Phase 1 which was my goal. Hoping this is my jumpstart and kick in the pants that I needed.

I'll keep you posted on my deficiect with food/exercise and we'll have to compare results. Good luck!
  • Nice! Keep me posted...Good luck!!!
