Default I need to ask for help....

I posted this on the calorie counter website and got some responses but I'd like to hear what you all think, too since this is my home! I stepped on the scale after a month of SB and Calorie counting and only dropped 4.6 pounds . Here is an excerpt of my post over there....

Some things you may need to know to help me figure out this nonsense! I drink a ton of water and nothing else (way more then 64 oz) so I'm good there. I cut out bread, pasta, oatmeal, potatoes, rice and fruit (just to get a hold of cravings for a bit...I'll add fruit in soon). I measure everything! Kitchen scale (salter brand) and measuring cups and spoons. I am not low carb as I am eating lots of beans and veggies and yogurt. I am most certainly not giving up Even if I ONLY lose 4 lbs every month I will still be 48 lbs thinner by next year. But I am not pleased and am in FIX it mode...not give up mode! I do not eat back my exercise cals. My calorie level (according to lose it is 1528 (to lose 2lbs per week). I stay under most days ...that may be my problem. I earn about 500 exercise cals a day (avg) doing high intensity interval training and weight lifting (heavy). Sometimes I work out twice a day. I do take a day of rest. I do take one cheat meal a week but log everything. I take a multi, CLA and GLA...My job is very energetic...I am a house cleaner (work for myself) and do whole houses by myself (ceiling fans, shower scrubbing, washing floors on hands and knees, etc...). I clean 3 days a week ( on average) and do it for approx 4 (sometimes more) hours a day. I did not add that to my calculations for calorie budget. Do you think that is the problem?? Could my intake be too low? Last weeks cal intake...Mon 1386 (low, I know), tues 1933, Wed 1689 thurs 1526, Fri 1550, Sat 1206 (oops), sun 1970. 11,260 for the week which is 630 cals under weekly budget (so that would be 2.5 lbs for that week alone). The week before I was 1403 under weekly ..before that 3380 under weekly, and 600 under weekly. Those numbers are under the budget allowed for me to lose 2 lbs per week so it should be more!!! Okay...criticisms...I'm ready.....

Are you getting any good fats? Very helpful for weight loss. How about posting your menus for a few days. Calorie counts can be deceiving. If you are counting correctly, is there a reason you are way under some days? I don't know how old you are, but as we age we lose a lot more slowly too. What are you eating on your cheat days? All in all, I agree that 4.8# is no small change. At least you are losing!

Post daily menus on the weekly thread here. Some days that I'm under is because I'm busy/ not hungry/...I'm trying to eat when hungry. Yes, healthy fats...olive oil, almonds, nat. pb. Generally eat eggs and veggies for breakfast, snack is peel cheese and nuts...lunch is large salad with lf feta and olive oil/vinegar maybe veggie chili with it and dinners vary...chicken and veggies, soup sometimes (bean), chili, fish...always with lots of veggies. I have a snack after dinner of sf fudgsicle and 1 tb nat PB. Sometimes a snack is ff yogurt and ff cottage cheese instead of nuts and cheese. Sometimes breakfast is yogurt if I'm in a hurry. But that's the general idea. I'm 37. I don't have whole cheat days...just one meal a week if my husband and I go out to lunch. This week I had a crab cake with 2 T mashed potatoes salad with dressing and dinner roll. I compensate for those meals though... I count everything with lose it! I know it's accurate.

Yes..that's what makes me mad! LOL! In 2005 I lost 80+ lbs following the Fat flush diet (see my picture trail if you want to see me skinny, LOL). It came off quick...I lost 11 lbs the first week and never lost less then 3 lbs a week sometimes as much as 5..every week. But it's tough to stick to. I ate no wheat, dairy, sugar, salt, yeast, gluten and only had a carb (sweet potato) every other day. It was very strict and I don't want to do that again. Really. I don't mind giving up bread everyday but this was ...well very strict. I have to be able to lose weight regularly, right????

Fat free plain yogurt has no sugar. Fat free plain cottage cheese doesn't either. Those are the only things fat free I get. I have plent of fats!!! 45%fat for a lot of days.

Perhaps your scale reading has happened to be at a moment in time when your numbers are up due to hormones, salt, water retention, etc. I looked back to my weight log for the past month. I lost 5 pounds (close to your loss) but my daily weights go up and down day by day. While my general trend was down I had 3 occasions where my weight was up by 2 and another that it was up by 3. I don't make a big deal out of my daily step on the scale, but I do log it. It keeps me familiar with just what type of fluxuations I have.

I don't know about the hormones. I specifically chose this particular week because I'm in the middle of my cycle (the lowest weight for me usually). I am going to have to weigh weekly now to make adjustments and try to keep my feelings in check. I just don't know how to adjust for this week. Lose it dropped my cals more and I think I burn more at work then it thinks. I just ordered a bodymedia...dh told me to go for it!!!! I <3 him!

I will echo Lexxis and say I think you should weigh more frequently. On the day you weighed, your body could have been holding onto some water. How would you have felt if you had stepped on the scale and lost 9 lbs. instead of 4.6? I was carrying around 5 lbs. of water weight last week. If you weighed every week you'd have a better idea I think. I'm sorry about this experience though - it must have been very disappointing to get on the scale after a month and showed a small loss.

I know I've srewed my body up with the nonsense I've done to it in the past. I know I have to figure out MY body and what works for ME!! I have to be patient...not one of my strongest suits!!

FYI - I'm only an inch shorter than you, and I had to stick to 1200 calories/day to lose weight. My physical activities included running, so pretty high intensity work out. I did intake more on run days.

(and I think 4 lbs in a month is great!)

An inch and a half ! LOL! And 88 pounds lighter! I hope I don't have to stay on 1200! I will most definately put what I've found on my bodymedia on this thread.

I wish I had the answer for you. There could be so many variables and we are all different. I feel you frustration but will echo that you DID lose which is more than I did while in a clear calorie deficit. I find it is much harder to lose weight now than any time in the past. Maybe it is getting older or maybe it is that my body has learned to adapt and is hanging on tight to pounds. BUT, I do think it is possible you are eating too little. Hate to say that, but I have heard many times that if you eat too little your body thinks it is going to starve and slows down your metabolism. Dr. Oz, not long ago, said no one should eat less than 1200 calories on a diet. What I don't know is if he takes exercise calories burned into account or not. Hang in there!
