South Beach Here We Come!

  • My husband has got to lose some weight and he doesn't know how.

I have decided that SB may be the answer.

I have dieted only as a woman and have no idea what to do for a man.

I, too, will be starting come January.

Store day is today and I have the book Supercharged (also have the original) and am excited/scared to start.

Hopefully I will make some friends here that will be supportive and helpful and I promise to do the same.

May these last few days of 2010 be successful.

  • Hi Marcie! to the beach!

My DH doesn't need to lose weight, but he has sure had some food issues which could use improvement. Because he hasn't needed to lose weight it has always seemed OK to put whatever he wanted into his mouth. When I started SBD I didn't make any modifications for meals we shared. If I needed to eat X for dinner, that is what he had. After finishing Phase 1, I quickly looked at the things we had enjoyed eating together and found new ways to prepare them which were SBD compliant.

I guess my point would be that if he knows he needs to lose weight and could learn enough about the concept of low glycemic eating(which is what I consider SBD to be) and have the SBD friendly meal support system at home that he might really enjoy the idea of getting healthier while losing weight. My DH has not lost or gained a single pound since I started SBD, but he is much healthier. His cholesterol and tryglicerides have dropped as much as mine, even though he continues to eat some junk.

Let us know how we can help. It might take learning to help plan his lunches if he is accustomed to meals which are off plan or actually poor health choices. My guy is a snacker and I find he's not too picky about that, either. For my DH, once he saw his health benefits in process he became more positive about the process.

    Best wishes to you, too!
  • Nice to meet you Windsong You will love it here. Yes - amazingly supportive and helpful chicks.

I wish my husband would get on the plan with me. He drives me crazy sometimes. The best I can do is make healthy meals for us all and hope he limits the crap that he buys and eats. Mine, unlike yours, knows what works to lose, he just seems to think he can do it while still eating ice cream and chips and all that.
  • Welcome back, Marcie. I know it's been a while but are you still following Beck? It's on my bedside table and I intend to finally get it read soon.
  • , Windsong! I'm looking forward to having you and your DH joining us!
  • Hi Windsong! Glad to have you here!
  • Welcome Windsong! Best of luck to both of you and Happy New Year!
