Default Saturated Fat Question

I know we are not allowed foods that are high in saturated fat, but how much is considered high?

According to nutrition.com 65g is what our reccommended daily fat allowance 20g of which is saturates.

When i was a WW i was told by my leader that if a packet label only showed fat content for eg....10g and didnt show saturated fat content then to half the fat amount which would be 5g and so on and so forth.

So based on a 20g saturated fat allowance and a 3 meal a day id say 6.5g of saturates fat per meal ( this is jus an example) so if you want to spread it out evenly id say anything over 6-7g saturates is high .............but thats jus on my calculations x

I don't think Dr. A has a specific limit. The American Heart Association suggests limiting saturated fat intake to less than 7 percent of total daily calories. If you follow the guidelines for lean meat (90% lean), fat free or reduced fat cheeses and dairy products,and using the recommended healthy oils & nuts, I don't think you'll have a problem with this. Check the food lists. They're pretty specific about what's allowed.

Thanks for your prompt responses. My husband and I have being doing SB since the day after Easter and neither of us miss bacon or sausage, but during the summer months we use to have brats atleast once a week and we are both missing them. I checked the back of the package and they have 7g of saturated fat. So that is the root of my question, can we have a brat every now and then as a treat?

Not sure what a brat is................but at 7g saturated fat id say thats fine ones not gona do ya much harm , just keep things balanced or keep other foods as low fat as you can if you know you are going to treat yourself

I think one brat once a week would be fine. Some of the fat gets lost in cooking too if you pierce it. Grilling is probably best, or you could bake it in the oven. Sometimes if I cook a fatty sausage in the oven I cut it in half and place it on a rack in the pan, so more fat drains out.

My husband and I like these. They're leaner than brats, but I agree, every once in a while a brat is OK.

I have two words for you: Turkey Bratwurst. Seriously, give them a try. They're pretty good!! We like the Jennio brand.

I'm glad to hear one brat a week is okay. I love them, and I will have to give the Turkey Brats a try. Taking my first spinning class today, wish me luck. :0
