Dairy???

  • Ok so I am new to the Beach and I was reading another post and there was a lot of discussion about dairy. what was ok and what was not. my mom and i are doing this together and she will NOT eat plain yogurt or drink any kind of milk and i am lactose intolerant. Do we have to have 2 servings a day?
  • Lowfat dairy is very healthy. Most people who do not eat dairy have issues with calcium deficiency. I don't see why you couldn't make up for the lack of calcium in other ways though.
  • Dark green veggies have calcium in them. When you get to phase2, amaranth has TONs of calcium.

For your Mom...get her to try greek yogurt and add agave necter and roasted nuts to it..delicious. I'm not much on plain yorgurt myself. Or she can mix it with cucumber and dill for a topping on fish or chicken.
  • No, you don't have to eat 2 servings of dairy for this way of eating. It's nice if you enjoy them.
I've been dairy free for 3 months now and haven't had any problems.

  • Thank you ladies
  • I think you can avoid dairy, but wonder if there is some way you and your mom can deal with your issues so you can at least have some. Besides all the calcium benefits, loads of studies show that eating 2 servings of low fat dairy foods a day decreases belly fat and helps you lose weight faster. What about Lactaid for you? Can people who are lactose intolerant have yogurt?
  • i cant really eat any dairy without extreme pain as far as the calcium goes i take calcium supplements so that I get enough and i eat alot of dark greens. As far as the lactaid products go I have tried them and can stomach them if i have to but the last time i tried it i felt like i was drinking milk with sugar poured in it so i didnt even think about it for SB cause i figured it did have some sort of sugar to replace the sugars they took out. As far as my mom goes i have gotten her to agree to try a smoothie with dairy in it.
