Phase 1 Folks -- Join Me!
(Unless of course there is already a current Phase 1 thread that I missed! )
I am starting phase one today, 2/2. I know we tend to have a lot of questions when we first get started and need the extra motivation for phase 1 foods only, so I thought I'd see if anyone else is starting this week, or started last week, or whatever.
I am excited but I am starting off with a bit of a cold, and not the best night's sleep. So, I am not sure about working out today. Is anyone else thinking of delaying the workouts for a day or two, or all of Phase 1?

Good idea! The other Phase I thread was getting a bit long. I'll find it, close it and direct people here.
Edited to Add: Done and here's the link to the old thread.

Hello,
I started phase 1 yesterday and don't plan on working out during phase one. I am too weak and hypoglacemic so my sugar falls and I hate that.
I too need motivation and support so I'm glad to be here!

1lbs is better than nothing or even better than gaining! Keep it up!
Quick question, last night I had the worst stomach pain I couldn't stand up, it was bad. Could it be from the sugar substitute?

What kind of substitute are you using? If it contains mannitol or sorbitol, it could very well cause stomach issues. I personally get severe gas and diarrhea with those two products. I have found that Splenda is the only sugar substitute I can tolerate as the "aspartame" brand causes high glucose issues. Has anyone tried Stevia as a sweetner yet?

My wife and I are starting week two of Phase 1 as well; I'm down 2.8; she's down 1.5.

usam- I was experiencing the same problem a few weeks ago, and I found it was definitely due to the artificial sweetener. I was eating a TON though-- I cut back by about half, and have been okay since.

Heey everyone.
I started yesterday, and so far so good. (I did have a tiny slip up last night but I disposed of that temptation). The whole water thing is an issue for me, since I can't stand the taste of plain water. Today I'm picking up some lemons to make "lemon water" instead of all the artificial sweetners in Crystal light. At least until I can compare my weight loss with and without them.

Big fan of cucumber water as well... add a few slices to a pitcher that you keep in the fridge. Very refreshing!

I'm in week two of Phase I and lost 5 lbs. the 1st week. Reading through some other low-carb forums I learned of a sweetener called erythritol that doesn't cause gastric distress. You would most likely need to order it online.
One thing I've read is that it does have a "cool tongue feel" like you'd get with minty things, so you might want to mix it with Splenda or something else and just not use too much.
I've noticed that on many of the sweet treats recipes here, they are just too sweet, and I'm a candyholic. It must be the difference in the sweetness of Splenda (which is what I've been using). So whenever I follow a recipe now I cut down on the recommended amount of sweetener. IMO, using too much makes things taste bitter.

The only thing I use is Splenda, however I did notice that last night I had about half a pack of sugar free gum and I think that's what did it.

I don't eat one artificial sweetener exclusively, since I suspect they all have their down-sides. I split mostly between Sweet & Low and Splenda, with Nutrasweet only where it included in sugar-free products.

I started yesterday on phase I. I did SB before and had great results but resorted back to my old ways of eating junk under stress. I didn't work out at all the first time I did it and lost 8 pounds during phase I. This time I will be working out just to boost my results and keep in a positive frame of mind. I can totally understand not working out if you are sick with a cold, though!!
