Default What is everyone doing with their old clothes?

Giving them away or donating or keeping them for you know, just in case???

I'm finding myself buying new clothes because the old ones don't fit, but I still have all of my old clothes. I'm not afraid to give them away, but I haven't let them go yet. I'm ready to rid myself of them.

I've been donating mine to a local clothes closet for our community. I have kept some of them so long that they're way out of style. I tend to keep things forever, so it takes me a long time to get rid of anything.

SBD - Don't shop in your closet!! Get rid of those clothes that dont fit anymore. You'll never need them again.

I've kept one pair of my biggest jeans, the rest I have given away or donated to Goodwill. I'm hoping that will bring me some kind of good karma. I've gone down 3 sizes, and I can't afford to keep buying all new clothes, so I shop in Goodwill too. We also have a Gently Used store, that buys clothes and then resells them for 75% lower than department stores.

I got rid of all of mine - felt fantastic We have a thing called freecycle in Australia, where you can post on a yahoo group in your area that you have stuff to give away and people will let you know when they can come and get it etc.

I've been picking off the clearance racks at Burlington and Kohl's. I should try to find a 2nd hand store as I didn't think of doing that. Thanks!

I've gotten rid of quite a bit at local consignment shops. I paid entirely too much for some of the clothes to just give them away...

The last time I lost a bunch of weight, I donated all my clothes to Hurricane Katrina survivors. Then, I gained almost all the weight back and had to go out and get more fat clothes. That was very sad. Anway, I now have a shelf in my closet where I have them al and I keep adding more to the pile. At some point, after I have kept it off for a while, I'll donate half and then, in the distant future, I'm going to donate the rest. I would love to give them away, but I just don't think I'm ready yet.

I have just been clearing out my closet the last couple of days. I, too, have gained a pile of weight, lost it, then regained it (reaction to meds), and am now halfway through losing it again. I kept a fair number of "skinny" clothes from before...mainly so I didn't have to replace stuff all the time. I keep a dresser full of classic, higher end items. Now, I am getting rid of my cheaper chubby clothes, and am storing the higher end chubby stuff in the dresser. Some things, I am thrilled to say good bye to as they just remind me of being larger. I shop in second hand stores too, and am taking all my spare stuff to a consignment shop. I buy new jeans off the sale rack at American Eagle, figuring I will treat myself to a good pair once the weight is off, and stays off for a good six months.

I've been wearing my "fat clothes". I haven't shopped for anything new as I was trying to hold out to lose more weight/inches. However, my clothes are starting to literally fall off me. My DD is like, "Mom!! You sooo need to go shopping for new clothes!"

We donate quite often to Goodwill. Make sure you get those receipts!

I am definitely a clothes horse but most of my fat clothes (maybe 75%) came from thrift and consignment stores and the rest from good sales or Label Shopper. I'm genetically cheap

I've only kept 1 pair of pants as a reminder.
Some clothes have gone to a couple of friends, a lot to thrifts, and about 6 trash bags to the consignment store. I've actually gone through 18s, 14s, 12s, 10s, & a few 8s. I kept thinking I was done and buying stuff. I'm glad I lost the weight and I'm really glad I'm done! It gets expensive even shopping thrifts.

My daughter is also losing weight. She takes what she can wear and the rest are donated. I just recently had to buy new clothes. I had lots of smaller sizes from the last time I did SBD, but even they were too big.

I'm donating them. I take the tax break at the end of the year.

problem is I have so many clothes I'm afraid of an audit...

We have a clothing exchange program in this area so my too big stuff goes there. I've yet to put away my summer clothes but will cull before I do - if I didn't wear it this summer, why do I need it? I'll separate them and hang on to them until Spring. Hmmmm - just remembered a winter coat that is way too big and needs to be altered. Maybe I'll donate it too.

When I did SBD the first time (a couple of years ago) I didn't get rid of many clothes, and was glad since I (sadly) ended up needing them again.
I got rid of my small clothes, size 6 and 8, a few years ago since I'm realistically not going to be that small ever again. I think it was before my first child 14 years ago that I wore them.

This time I'll get rid of my bigger clothes, at least any that are 2 sizes big. I'm not there yet.

We have freecycle here, too. Most of my clothes are bought at Goodwill and go back to Goodwill.

I'm in between sizes now. All the "fat" pants I bought when I started a new job about a month and a half ago are too big, and my "skinny" pants are too small. So, I am wearing a lot of clothes that are too big for me. Once I can get down into my other pants, I'll be donating my old clothes to the local thrift shop.
