Zeff, after K, we replaced our fence with a wire fence...just stakes with wire wrapped around it. Then we planted star jamine on it and it's just about all filled out. That way if we get a fence blown down, we just stake that baby up again.
I'm waiting for everyone (6 of us) to get up so I can make waffles too. Just have one more load of laundry and that's all done and I can tackle really cleaning the house for when when we lose power and can't vacuum etc. Just realized hubby forgot to get bleach yesterday, so have to journey out to get that later. This just really sucks so badly. A storm should be so much fun with 6 people, 9 dogs and a crippled duck inside!! Well, it will be interesting anyway.

a crippled duck!
I'm the same way, vacuuming and whatnot now....but the real deep cleaning, I save for when the power is out. I can boil water in my battery powered teapot if I need it.
DH is going to be pissed if the fence gets blown over...he just finished putting it up

I have no idea where we got it. I got it from my dad when my DH and I first started camping.
Unfortunately, it takes 4 D batteries.

LOL Cat I was thinking about you when giving my dog a bath this morning thinking what a chore you will have with the puppies and wondering if the duck was still around too!

Would you believe I've never eaten lobster in my entire life?
When we lived in Long Island and I was a small child, I was horrified to be alone in the kitchen and I saw a huge pot with a lobster scraping around in it. (I'm not sure how I was able to see the lobster, I can't recall every detail, so I must have dragged a chair in there and got on top of it, against my mother's wishes. I was a bad child. Once, in that very kitchen, I somehow managed to get a knife and actually cut in between my fingers, and another time I set a fire in a wastebasket in the kitchen. ....hhmmm.... in retrospect.... WHO WAS WATCHING ME??? Also: was I almost a little budding sociopath?) Anyway I recall something about my dad coming into the kitchen and asking him why he was hurting the lobster and he told me that is how he was cooking it, that you had to throw it into the boiling pot alive... Needless to say I have never had lobster, I still feel the guilt from years ago.
As an adult, I would like to try it, it sounds delicious. Hopefully no one mistook my above paragraph for a rant about animal cruelty against people who eat lobsters. I was just reminded of that story and realized how to this day I still haven't tried lobster. I still feel bad for the lobster though...
Barb0503, that is really good to hear that maybe Robert had a sort of 'wake up call' so to speak and that he is talking of forgiveness. Hopefully this is a step towards the right direction and everything can end up being solved amicably? Then again, he may revert back to his old ways. Hopefully not though! Things are looking promising.

Hey chickies.... just popping in to see how everyone was doing and checking on you girls in the path of the hurricane, we have been watching on tv. You are in my thoughts. Stay safe. Busy day of last minute school supplies and stuff for school lunches and cleaning supplies. So we are ready for the first day of school. Well I am off to hang with my family. Take care girls.

little chick - my FIL is trying to make it home from South Carolina (he was running a marathon) and is stuck in bad traffic in Alabama. He should be home within the next 12 hours. Meanwhile, DH went to clear patio furniture off his parents patio and put their potted plants away.
All our potted plants, furniture and outdoor decoration - including the grill - are in the garage. Unfortunately we don't have a garage door - it's basically just a fully enclosed carport. DH is planning to tape huge tarps over the door and put wood over those. Hopefully we don't get any flooding.
There is a gas station around the corner. We know the owner and he has a generator to keep his cold stuff running - including the ice maker. He said to just let us know when we need more ice and he would fill up our coolers. Hopefully we won't lose much food if the power is out for an extended period of time.
Other than that, we're set. Food, water, entertainment and fully stocked gas in both vehicles. The contraflow is starting tomorrow morning and will make it difficult to get into the heart of Lafayette - thankfully we have most everything we will need and won't need to drive around. If predictions are correct, we should start getting some effects tomorrow sometime.

You probably already thought of this, you have such a level head, but do you have some cash in case the stores have no power to run credit card machines after the storm hits? I'm really bad about never carrying cash with me, and hubby is always reminding me to get cash out of the ATM.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep us posted, when you can.

We have 5k in cash savings in the safe. I'm hoping not to have to dig into it...we have checks as well and most places that we would absolutely have to go to accept them.
I actually wasn't even thinking of getting cash until we filled up the cars yesterday and the credit card machines weren't working.
DH came home with $100 that he had gotten out of the ATM and a box of bullets......god forbid.....

Okay, I'm tired of this d@@@ storm.
All day I had been preparing to go to my parents house...which is east of hammond. Well, my dad has just flipped out and we are evacuating. When Bob Breck, our meterologist, said "this storm has the makings to be worse than katrina" my phone rang, literally 45 seconds after that with the word that we were leaving. Needless to say, I"m not the happiest person in the world right now.
Cat and Zeff...good luck girls....looks like this one is gonna be nasty.
