I still like jello even though it's made from disgusting things, lol.

Some days I'll eat celery and PB before I leave work (usually around 3:30) -- but I'm still famished when I walk in the door! If I ate some cheese when I got home, would that be "too much"?

And the shrimp cocktail sounds good - I've never thought about that one for a snack...so I'll definitely be trying that one.

You all have given me some great ideas!

Can you swap your morning and afternoon snacks. And given what time you eat breakfast, maybe move lunch back an hour? (Don't know if your job will allow you to do that.)

The job will, but usually by lunchtime I'm hungry which is why I eat kind of early. Sometimes I switch the morning and afternoon snacks...but it seems like the gap between 2pm and 7pm is where I'm getting into trouble. I need to start carrying an additional filling snack to eat in the car when I'm driving home from work - hopefully that will help.

it's probably more like 2 to 8...especially on gym days...which probably explains why I'm eating too many nuts when I walk in the house.

Plus I love nuts.

Oh Heather thanks so much for reminding me! I meant to make some shrimp cocktails this week, but forgot I had bought all the stuff. Maybe I will have that for dinner tonight. I was just in the middle of making my menus for the week, so I will write that one down.
I have been missing my edamame, haven't had a chance to hit Trader Joe's for a few weeks and stock up. I love keeping these around to munch on, such a great snack.
Belle Mer, do you use the cocotte minute much for your Med cooking? MIL uses hers all the time when she wants to cook things quickly and it's something I saw in every French kitchen I had access to. I guess the old fashioned version of the microwave. I have a really nice SEB model that she bought me and made poor DH carry home on the plane, but it is huge so I don't use it as often. I wish I had a smaller one too. She uses it for everything but my expertise is limited to stews and beans. Where do you get your recipes? Are they old family recipes?

No I haven't used a cocotte minute. Is it similar to a pressure cooker? It's only hubby and me, and I work at home, so I don't have the stress of time or have to cook for a lot of people. I don't really suffer from not having a microwave.

My mother's side of the family is from Sicily, descended from ancestors from the Provencal region of France, and the Piedmont area of Italy. Some day I hope to research the ancestry.

The cooking methods they use are typical of the Med region- fresh herbs, spices, vegetables, olive oil, beans, very little red meat, never any processed food or fast foods. I strayed from that healthy diet after I moved from NYC to the South.

Hey Greeneyedmustang, have you ever tried the roasted chickpeas with spices? Mmm, that's some good crunchy salty stuff, a very good snack.

Yeah, I made mine ranch style. I made only one can, but I ate the whole thing in one sitting. This was another one of those days where I was struggling from 2 to 8.

So here's my update for today: I went to Trader Joe's and bought the premade celery and all natural peanut butter snacks they have, and ate that at 3:30. I went to the gym at 5:30, and after I finished at the gym I drank one of those SB "Tide Me Over" drinks and had some almonds (five of them). When I got home, I didn't eat everything in sight! Thanks for the advice everyone...I think I've found multiple ways to solve my problem.

A cup of FF Greek yogurt is very filling. I sometimes have that. The Tide Me Over drinks really help. Love a couple sticks of string cheese too.

it's thicker
it's creamer
it's less tangy...

reminds me of sour cream.

it's worth it. I mix it with salsa and make salad dressing.
