Hi folks. Been reading this forum a lot as right now I'm informally SBing, having rediscovered the fact that not eating sugar and general carb control is the only thing that ever helps me lose weight and be healthier. My husband ordered books for me this week, so I'm waiting on those; and I've got a commitment from him that he'll do SB "for real" with me in a few weeks, as soon as he drinks up all the soda he's got in the house!
This past week I lost 2 pounds doing my informal SB, so I'm very pleased. I'm really excited about the foodplan overall, and teaching it to my husband, because as much as I agree that carb control is the way to go for people like us (both are probably insulin-resistant), there's no way I'd ever be able to stick with Atkins, and I don't really think Atkins is healthy in the long run.
A couple of the books I've got coming are recipe books; my husband and I enjoy cooking together (though he's coming from a deeply-entrenched meat-and-potatoes southern upbringing and I come from California hippie-dom), so I'm looking forward to doing that in a healthy way.
Hi Warmaiden and welcome! You're right, SB is a very healthy way to eat and reduce. glad to have you around the beach. There is an active thread for new Phase Iers, and be sure and join us on the daily thread too. There are lots of stickies with great info in the FAQ section, and tons of good recipes.
Warmaiden! You're lucky to have your DH doing this with you, it will make things so much easier for you! We look forward to hearing from you often and getting to know you!
I too am starting the SB plan soon, more like Monday. My husband will be starting along with me. We were on the plan before, but I got sick and had to stop. But this time we are determined to stick to it. It is a great plan and it is a healthy way of life.
Looking forward to reading all of your helpful posts.
I'm on my last day of Phase I today (YEAH!!), and so far...it's definately worth it! Down a decent amount, no cravings (but I don't allow myself to consider them), no cheats!, and best off....I definately feel better. Those sugar high and lows are a bummer! Definately worth it!!
Good luck! And there's awesome support and resources on here! I would've starved (or cheated!) if it weren't for recipes and suggestions!
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and I look forward to getting to know you also. I was on this site about 5 years ago, it along with the SB books and a little will power helped me to lose almost 60 lbs. I found out that I had trigeminal neuralgia and had to start taking a lot of medications. This made things very hard and I gained it all back along with a few more. To make a long story short, I look forward to getting to know all of my new buddies so we can help each other to reach our goals and beyond.
Thanks everyone, it's great to be here. The recipes are a wonderful resource! And Ruth, I will certainly join the Phase 1 thread when we actually start doing it--right now I'm eating Phase 2 while waiting for my husband to finish all his dang soda. (I asked him if I'd get in trouble if I just poured the soda down the sink--he glared at me! )
Welcome, ladies! It's always nice to have supportive husbands to help you through the process! This is a great board! I know that you two will find many friends and allies in your weight loss while you are here
