Does anyone know the new foods that are added in the new book?

I'm anxious for my book to get here. I see my card was already charged which means I hope they are going to ship it soon. But I have no patience and can't wait to find out what new foods are added on. I know about the exercise. I tried to peak at the book in the bookstore yesterday but I was with my daughter who didn't want to wait around until I was finished browsing. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I read the preview of the new "Supercharged" book

and it seemed to emphasis about adding exercise as a way to overcome weight lose plateau's. If you remember originally he did not mention anything about exercise and he was "scolded" by different groups to include that as part of his healthy eating plan.

I honestly can't imagine what foods he would be adding in at this time. The reason why he added in milk from the first edition was that new scientific evidence came out that additional calcium aids in weight lose, not to mention the need of women specifically needing more calcium. And, he lifted the restrictions on tomatoes probably because for some people it can be a vegetable that is irritating to their systems; ie, people with gout or arthritis. As he has said before, as there is new scientific evidence regarding health and eating for your health, he reviews how he can incorporate that into this food plan---which is for life.

Again, remember this is a diet that was developed for his cardiac patients who were also diabetic. If you keep that in mind then you can figure out on your own what you should and shouldn't be eating (which will result in "normal" blood chemistries) then you are on the right track. Again, this was his original goal for his patients to begin with. The weight lose was just an added bonus to healthy hearts, livers and pancreas. ;)

doesn't look like much in the way of new food... just a lot of exercise and a lot of new studies to back up the diet

we already know about beans and dairy in phase 1

dry roasted edamame is now listed as nuts 1/4 cup per day...
1/2 cup of guacamole is a serving of fat now

sugar free powdered drink mixes are NOT listed as sweet treats... now listed under beverages...

97% fat free hot dogs are allowed once a week now

soy pasta is allowed in phase 2
rice noodles are ok
soba noodles you get 3/4 of a cup (more than other noodles)

light beer on occasion is allowed in phase 2 (12 oz)
wine can be white or red 1-2 4 oz glasses permitted daily with or after meals

anything in particular you are looking for?

Great stuff! Thanks, Nessa. I'll revise the Phase I and II Lists when I get a chance.

Cannwarren 05-01-2008 02:47 PM

Thank you both. This information is very helpful. Nessa you are a plethora of information regarding this diet. I consider you my informant! :)

I saw drink mixes under sweet treats still AND under beverages......one is limited, the other isn't.

What gives! I loves me some drink mix!

4 ounces of wine? Awww that is only 1/2 a cup...

That's communion! ;)

SkinnyDogMom 05-02-2008 03:13 PM

Who drinks just 4 ounces of wine as a glass of wine???
Like the frugal cook telling the lady she can take the leftover wine and freeze it in an ice cube tray to cook with at a later date...Leftover wine??? what is that?!?!

zeffryn 05-02-2008 03:24 PM

most restaurants only do a 4 oz. pour......you guys fill up your glasses? I guess I worked in the restaurant industry for too long, a 4 oz. pour is standard for me.

Schmoodle 05-02-2008 03:41 PM

Ha, we like our wine don't we? :D Actually I use one of those smaller glasses and probably pour 4 - 6 oz. I'm such a cheap date these days that one glass does the trick. SBD has ruined me for drinking! I haven't had a margarita in so long, it would probably put me under the table.

Ruthxxx 05-02-2008 04:13 PM

The new food list is now posted in the FAQ. There certainly are not many changes! I was kind of hoping he'd add Scotch in Phase I.

"wine can be white or red 1-2 4 oz glasses permitted daily with or after meals" Wait, daily? That's new isn't it?

By the way, did he explain the transition period from Ph1 to Ph2 any better in the new book?

That is something new, letting us enjoy a glass of red or white wine every night, instead of just an occasional glass of red. :D

He did go into a little more detail making the transition. This time he advises to introduce fruits and grains gradually, just as all of us here at 3FC have been doing. ;) He walks you through how to introduce the good carbs gradually throughout a 2 week period, starting with 1 fruit and 1 grain on the first week, and gradually including more during the second week.

No calories? Rum and other liquor is full of empty calories, unfortunately. :(
