Default Water crisis at the money pit

My 1972 townhouse has developed pin hole leaks in the copper pipes. Not for the first time but two new spots. I'm going to replace all the cold water pipes with Pex flexible tubing. They can't reach the old pipe without tearing out a whole bunch of other stuff. so it's easier to run new pipes.Because the water heater filters out what's causing the problem they didn't think it necessary to replace the hot water lines.

I'm getting a bid on my bathroom as well. I've had tiles pop off the shower and well it's 40 years old and stuck in the 70s.

Hmmm diet news... Today I had a peanut butter on toast breakfast. A tomato, coleslaw and walnuts midday and steak fajitas with zucchini for dinner.
Also an apple some cantalope and carrots & hummmus.

fun fact When you find yourself wandering and winging all your meals it's time to pick up the book again and figure out the system.

Default Fat free for a fat free me?

Today for the first time probably in my life I trimmed the fat from a pork chop before cooking. That doesn't make it fat free of course but helps reduce the amount. I also cooked my zucchini in the same pan so I;m picking up more of the remaining fat. Kept to the nine inch plate, had porkchop, veg, crackers and hummus, tomato, grapes.
Lunch was grapes, strawberries, crackers laughing cow cheese, more strawberries.
b'fast was raisin bran(need to get to different store to get the super high fiber cereal) and milk.

I have a doctors appt on the 15th-would like to be at 210 3 tp 4 lbs from where I am.

Worked on washing my back patio windows, bought a bed skirt at thrift ship to experiment with the fabric for my shoji screen window treatments in dining room. Looks awful from outside but gives more light to room then my rust fabric. Need to know if you can see through it from parking lot. Will look again after dark.

fun fact Occupy your mind with something besides food is a calorie saving tip

Today was only OK ... the fact that I haven't been posting regularly on a menu thread means my food choices have been less than desirable.

Breakfast was an egg, cheese, and ham mcmuffin, which I considered healthier than the first thing I grabbed, the sausage, egg, and cheese croissant.

Lunch was some homemade vegetable biryani over brown rice, and a sliced cucumber. I am lucky to have several people giving me their garden goods this time of year!

Dinner was 2 pieces of garlic cheese bread (no excuse there, but my REASON was that it's easy to cook in a toaster oven as I don't have a stove yet) and miso soup.

Tomorrow is my son's 20th birthday and we are having a casual potluck at my house. I made a fruit salad recipe that he brought home from his sixth-grade home ec class (yogurt + mixed fruit).

Exercise has been yard work, and that's about it. I haven't made great choices, but I always like cooking with vegetables, so hopefully that will help reel me back in to reasonable meal choices.

Default Losing twice as fast as I Gained

it's funny that we never consider how long it takes us to gain 10 lbs but agonize over how long it takes to lose it.

I gained about 20 lbs a year during my 50's-went from 165 to over 250. But I complain now that it is not just melting away with no effort.

Speaking of no effort I went out for meals 4 times last week.

East Moon Vietnamese noodle bowl

Occouquan cafe blueberry pie PIE!! and a tomato stuffed with chicken salad.(pie had less calories then the meal) Saw a civil war re-enactment with horses. Farmers market Peaches, summer squash, pablano peppers

Alexandria Oyster sandwich Nice restaurant, good bread, window seat. I walked maybe a mile up and down the waterfront, shops and park.

Italian split a apple/gorgonzola salad and a order of shrimp scampi on fettucini . Portion ok Pasta not so ok. Pinot grigio ok on the Sonoma diet.

start of August 214lbs

Angry with the hassle of contractors..I've scheduled a plumber now to come and fix the leaking pipes. None of the full remodel folks got back to me=they don't want to give numbers when they found out they were in competition I guess.

I really need to get to the grocery store. My only veg left are hot peppers and an eggplant. Don't really know what to do with that eggplant that does not include cheese. I had steak for lunch and steak for dinner. I am going to try and find a fiber supplement.

I bought new plates that are just slightly smaller then nine inches. But the bowls in the set are really large, probably 4 cups. I can just half fill those tho so I will use them.

No loss this week. Two dinners out. No fish, had pork or steak mostly. I see a pattern.

no fun fact: look in the rear view mirror objects(those pounds lost) are closer then they appear and may overtake you again.

Wow! You're having a lot of steak this week.

Sorry to hear about the contractors. They can be jerks sometimes. I never know how to find a trustworthy one, either.

Hmm, on that eggplant ... go to supercook.com and type in a few ingredients you have, including that eggplant. It will come up with some good ideas.

I had peanut-butter toast and cherries for breakfast. I also had just ONE cup of coffee. I've always made a half-pot for myself, but I consistently don't drink that second cup. So I started just making a single cup! Save money and health.

Lunch today was some homemade tabouli.

Dinner was left over vegetable biryani on a tortilla.

I'm working late tonight, so I haven't moved hardly at all today.

Love the no-fun fact! It's so true!!

Wow August has been Hot! A couple of big windstorms too altho not directly over me. DC and MD got the worst of it-they lost alot of trees-into buildings and cars.

I cooked a whole roast chicken and have been working on that for 4 days. Peeled most of skin off but eating dark and white meat.
Weight still going down scale was flirting with 210 this am.

Dinner last night was scallops, green peas in pod, tomato, black beans.
I have salmon in freezer might cook that later.

Hi all!

I'm new to the Sonoma diet. I've been reading the book for the past few weeks and lurking on these boards. I really like what the book had to say about nutrition and super foods. Sunday, I tried planning my meals for the week but it was kinda overwhelming. I think I might have been better off just planning off the allowed foods lists instead of the recipes. I picked 4 recipes to try this week (express wraps, beef kabobs, spicy chili, and chicken salad) and I spent a ton of money at the grocery store. I had the chili today and it was quite spicy (but good). I'm doing whole grain cereal for lunch - and it seems like way too much fits in my 2 c. bowl (with milk).

Its only day two and I've already cheated but it was soooo hard (and took me so long) to even start a diet program that I'm not going beat myself over it. I think I need to ease into this a little bit or I'll just give up. I've considered skipping Wave 1 and moving onto Wave 2. Do you think that is a bad idea? I get the point of eliminating all sugars so that you lose your craving for them but its kinda drastic to cut fruit (although its just 10 days and its not like I was really eating much fruit before now - but I was eating lots of sugary treats).

Obviously I'm still trying to figure everything out.

2Bees - several years ago we had to have all the pipes in our house replaced do to pin-hole leaks. It was rather expensive and they had to tear up my kitchen ceiling (because that is where all the upstairs piping was)...but it didn't take them long to do. We used a plumber rather than home contractor or renovations company. After the job, someone told me I should've kept the old copper pipes or had the plumber pay me for them. I guess they can be sold for money. You might ask the plumber about that and maybe they can lower the cost of the job a bit (or maybe they already factor that in?).

Hi Maurine welcome and good luck with the plan.I didn't stick so striktly on WaveOne Mostly dairy and almonds. I didn't realize the almond snacks were for the guys not me. Selective reading. And I am a cheese crackhead. But it still worked.

I did have a lot of red meat in a row a week or so ago because my portion size makes a lot more servings then I used to eat=and I was using up a flank steak. This week I had a roasted chicken that lasted longer then I wanted.I did eat both light and dark meat but only ate the skin from the wings. Not perfect but worlds better then other choices.

I do better with seafood and make sure I have my whole grains for filler. I do make a salad sometimes along with my 9inch plate-no dressing.

My downfalls are nuts=overindulge, grapes-keep going back for more, peanut butter-so many better choices to make.

My treats are kalamarta olives, red bell pepper, mushrooms, summer squash and cantaloupe. Also berries- hard to overdo strawberries and blueberries.

Default ok no more food porn

I'm not going to have to post wildly out of control things because I am going to rededicate my focus. so there it is.

Today I had strawberries and 1/2 a banana
lunch is a turkey sandwich on whole grain flat bread and salad with romaine and cucumber and flaxseed with 2tble of diet dressing + 1tblsp of good olive oil. And strawberries.
Dinner will be chicken breast, asparagus quiona, and strawberries.
snack I will finish my banana and have a yogurt.

I have 10lbs to go to my 199 first level goal.

fun fact My trip out did no damage because I kept under 1400 for the day BUT it made me very hungry the next day.

Default Overslept and under motivated

Didn't even wake up until 10:30 this morning! Usually I am awake at 6:30,hit the bathroom, turn on tv and fall asleep again.

breakfast is high fiber yogurt crunch cereal. Almost too sweet to eat. And strawberries.

Lunch better not be until 2-3o'clock.I need to get out of the house to make that happen. And I need to go to Lowes.

My water leaks are solved.Still want to redo the bathroom. I started pulling off wallpaper then decided(cuz it is.not.going.well) that I should wait and find out if I am going to tear out all the wallboard in bathroom or just what is around the shower.

I had pasta WW,mushrooms, carrots, chicken dressed with olive oil last night.
I used the same portion of pasta as always but seemed to have way too much..there are leftovers on plate and stove this am.ready to trash.
Is portion control finally coming to me?! That would be a fun fact and proof Sonoma works. sunday weight 210.

August seems like the longest month. I don't know why I'm worried about that I still want to post another pound lost but I'm waiting until month end to update my ticker. I was in a 5lb lost challenge. Dont know why,I know I'm losing at a pretty slow pace.

It's up to you guys if we start a new thread for the fall. Be thinking of a good name for it.

I had a glass of red wine today. Need to remember that is allowed and include it.

2Bees, thank goodness the water problems in your house are finally in control! What a headache.

I am still here, but have been focusing on my house (still) lately. At long last, I am finally going to get a STOVE installed!! I've been without since I moved in on July 1. I make do with a toaster oven, but you can imagine. Luckily, I live alone.

I've made a lot of good choices lately, some not-so-great emotional eating choices. I do track occasionally on a menu calculator web site, just to see where I'm at and to get a reminder of how easily calories can just fly out the window!

Yesterday, I had a fruit smoothie for breakfast, ham and vegetables for lunch, and a homemade kale/rice soup for dinner. Snack was air-popped and salted popcorn.

Today I had a smoothie so far, and have to serve lunch and dinner to some houseguests. Not sure what I'm going to do for that yet, probably a chicken stir-fry with rice for dinner and something with a salad for lunch.

Exercise has been on the rise, but I'm still not doing it as consistently as it needs to be.

Default End of August=maybe wait til Labor day to end summer?

Ok everyone time to check in and update your successes on Sonoma.

Anyone??? ok I'll go first.

I started at 219 now at 210 that's 9 lbs in 9 weeks-about all I can ask for when I am playing the close enough for horseshoes meal planning. To be on track for my 199 goal I have to pick up 2 extra lost lbs in the 10 weeks left.

I joined a exercise challenge for September. My goal is to walk 26 miles in the month of September. I may have to spring for a pedometer to track my distance.
I have a 1 mile route around the neighborhood that will do but I'll have to step up and do several miles in one to make goal since I don't go out that often. I walked today so I'm counting that mile.
