Good Morning Ladies:)

We have a other great day for walking and this afternoon now that the temps are not so high I will bake my Rev Rolls again. I noticing that I was eating to many mini rolls as comfort food & snacks when the temps were up.Have to get those carbs under control.

RHONDA-Thanks for starting us up this week.Congrats on losing your 1 lb.,still can't figure out what percentage of fat, carbs & protein works for me.

SANDRA-Thanks I never thought it was so easy to start the BBQ grill now that I know I will have BBq meals more often.
Quote:

Well, Chickies, the results are in.........FRIED FRITO PIE won best tasting new fried food item at the Texas State Fair.
Is the recipe in the recipe thread???? No calories I would like to see that one.

SLOANE-Other than the BBQ it was a quite day, watching the end of the Deutsche Bank golf tournament. Was a little disappointment as the 4 men I follow didn't get up on the leader board the new comers did however.

JOJO-I feel the same,I dread TG and Christmas and than New Years all eating holidays especially the first one. That the time of the year when I tend to have comfort foods and that when the problems start.

Have to go, have a great day

Maryann: I don't know what ratio works best for me either, but clearly anything that increases protein over carbs and fats would be better than not...as long as there is some healthy fat and some good carbs in your diet daily. The Mayo Clinic website has good information on it.

The advice I received was not about the ratio but about total amount of fats. No more than 30 grams, and it's difficult. For example, 1 Tablespoon of peanut has about 17grams of fat. So, you have one Tablespoon of nice organic peanut butter on tasty whole wheat toast and you've just about had your fats for the day. It's rough.

I headed out to aquafit, met a wicked downpour and came right back home. It's from the storm in the Gulf. We need the rain though, can't complain.

Rhonda, I met a storm today, too. It was flooding down here. I'll bet it was in your area, too.

Maryann, I don't know how to make the fried frito pies. They were talking about it on the news. We were just joking about its being calorie free. I'm sure it's loaded. I will google to see if I can get the recipe, though.

I subbed today and drove home in a torrential rainfall. Our place looks like a lake (again). However, we need the rain. I'm glad we got it.

sloanie 09-07-2010 09:14 PM

Hey y'all! I've had a run of the mill day. School, errands, etc., and I am happy to report that I am still op :carrot:

Jojo, do you do anything special to your butternuts before you roast them? I don't think I have ever had any. Your house sounds lovely, but I know you'll be glad to have something smaller. Also, the idea of a camper sounds very liberating! I hope things go exactly as you want.

Maryann, It must be so awesome to be able to go to the beac to walk. How far is it from your house.

Rhonda, sounds like you could have done aquafit all the way home!

Sandra, I have trouble keeping the kitchen closed, too. Late night eating is my downfall. I'm more successful if I plan a late night snack instead of eating on the fly.

I hope you chicks are having a great night. TTFN

ontarget 09-07-2010 10:38 PM

Sloan, planning a late night snack sounds like a good idea.

JoJo, we lived fulltime RV for over a year and loved it. We sold our home in Montana before doing so an had a lot of downsizing. Now we live in a much smaller home.

Well, I'm thinking of reopening the kitchen. Ya'll have a good evening.

Tejas 09-07-2010 11:36 PM

Funny that you're talking about snacking. I'm usually OK but today I wanted carbs, carbs, carbs. I was very controlled until about an hour ago. I ate crackers. But, thank goodness I had a stock of better ones made from whole grains and veggies.

Any excuse will do, but it was a dreary day with the weather. I didn't encounter any flooding but we are in a flood and tornado watch area. Okey dokey, I'm watching!

Today is the first Tuesday after Labor Day since 1978 that I did not go back to work :woohoo:

.Ontarget: O lordy! The downsizing. What you find when you declutter. We are going to a car-boot before we move (a bit like a cross between your flea market and a yard sale) We've already given a lot to charity shops but we'll clear the detritus in one huge go at a boot sale. They are very popular here, but getting a bit commercialised now. It used to be a car-full of stuff and you sold off an old table. Most used their wallpapering table and in many case, sold that too when it was empty but now, the professionals have infiltrated them and prices have risen.

We used to have a static caravan (trailer?) by the sea and went there most weekends. It had 2 bedrooms, central heating a shower and our daughter adored it. There is no way we can go to that part of the world again so we sold it. We would like a small camper van and have looked at a few, but we have a huge labrador and whilst we could get her in the small ones she couldn't turn around!

Sloanie I never 'peel', for want of a better word, them. I wash them well and cut them in half down the middle then scoop out, I use a teaspoon, all the seeds from the well in the middle. I either leave them like this and brush with olive oil and roast as you would potatoes. To make sure they are done just test the thick part with a skewer. Then I fill the well a mixture of cooked small sausages and sundried tomatoes for example and warm through in the oven. The other way is after I have halved them I cut then into chunks and again roast like potatoes and serve with a roast dinner. I'm sure there are many other recipes but as someone who didn't know what they were a few years ago, this is as far as I have got. We have an actifry but I've not tried them in there yet.

Yes, we'll be very glad to get out of here. Old houses like ours are very popular, and the way they are built means they are warm in winter and cool in summer but have their drawbacks. Not one of the walls is straight, we don't have a garage, just curbside parking and to find a space is a nightmare

A mellow misty morning here. Autumn is knocking on the door and you can just sense winter waking up and getting ready to nudge her aside in month or two
I am going to see my mum later this morning. I hope she is in a good mood but these days, the only pleasure she has in life is shouting at me!
Have a good day everyone

Tejas 09-08-2010 09:24 AM

We are getting rain, rain, rain! :rain: Of course, it's nothing compared to Pakistan. Those poor people and such a complicated part of the world.

Last week the scale read 184, this morning, 180.4. Maybe the 184 was an mis-reading, or maybe keeping the fat to 30 grams is helping!

Have a great OP day everyone. I'm going to venture out into the weather and go to aquafit. DH said just wear your bathing suit while running into the gym from the car.

Good Morning Ladies:)

Looks like its going to be a cloudy day and they talking about showers. Going to take the day off from walking and go on my bike instead.

I forgot to make my Rev Rolls yesterday, so I'm going to bake them today.

RHONDA-I have Mayo Clinic bookmarked but I always forget to go there. Thanks for the reminder.I think my doctor told me 30% fat 30% protein & 40% carbs.,but I don't know how to break down the equivalent. I know it look difficult to only consume 1 TB PB.

SANDRA-Thanks for the PM I knew they had to been fattening, but once in while is OK.

SLOANE-When I first came here and was younger I used to walk to the beach from my house and it took 2 hrs[8m] both ways, now I take the car[15mins] to the beach & walk along for 30 45 mins.

Have a great day

Good morning from Lake Horton. Just checked our rain gauge. It was about a centimeter below overflowing. The last hash mark is 5.5" and that's wayyyyy below the top so I'm guessing 7 or so inches. Some schools are closing nearby due to flooding.

That said, we are enjoying a kickback day inside. We slept till 10 AM then had oatmeal/toast for bfast.

Rhonda, don't you just love retirement!?! I never thought I'd adjust like I have. I think your moving from the area helped you as moving to Montana helped me.

We are going out to lunch (weather permitting, if not, we'll eat taco soup and cornbread) later this afternoon. I'm still waiting on my cookbook to arrive. I don't want to buy groceries till I get it. (may have to, though)

JoJo, flea markets over here have gotten extremely commercialized, too. I remember the days when the vendors were folks wanting to clear out closets and garages. Now you have all sorts of vendors with all kinds of "stuff." We have what's called "Antique Alley" here twice a year. It runs almost 30 miles through 3 small towns. Our church youth group has a BBQ stand. Note: They have asked for Coke product donations from church members. They said Pepsi products don't sell well down here. I was surprised.

Rhonda, I just went back and read what you said about wearing the swimsuit to the gym. :lol Tell him I sloshed out to the rain gauge wearing high top rubber boots. We're surrounded! Our alligators were staked just south of our pond. Now they have managed to float to the north end of it. The girls' flowerbed in the front yard looks like a boat. It's not floating, but it looks like it is.

JoJo, thank you for the tips on roasting butternut squash. That's something I seldom cook. I could probably count the times on my fingers of one hand. I may try it your way. It sounds good.

Maryann, I'm glad you're interested in the recipe. I was hesitant to post it here because of its decadence. If anyone else would like it, I'll PM it to you. I am thinking I might make it for a church social. Curtis goes to Men's Discipleship twice a month. I really think it's a roosterfest with hens furnishing the chickenfeed. I think the guys would like this. I know it's something I couldn't have much of around the house.

Hmmmmmm..........they meet this coming Monday. Think I'll make it.

Tejas 09-08-2010 04:20 PM

Sandra, you could post the recipe with warnings: NOT CORE; Heart attack on a plate; Bad for you, etc.

Finally, blue skies here. We don't have a rain gauge but all around us they have received 6,7,8 inches of rain. We do have the grandkids' bucket on the deck but I haven't measured the rain in it. Will do.

I signed up for tap dancing classes at the Senior Center, but no one else has. They say that the classes are usually full. I hope the class happens; I used to love tap dancing. Move over Ginger Rogers!

Off to see Todd and suffer! :barbell:

Rhonda

ontarget 09-08-2010 06:52 PM

Okey doey. The recipe is now unposted. Sometimes I forget this is a public board and there are a lot of folks reading that I don't know and don't know me. I'll be more careful from now on. That's for sure.

Rhonda, tap dancing sounds like a fun workout. :dancer: You're impressing me, Cuz!

And now for my big news--------my new cookbook just arrived. I'm off here to do some reading.:book2:

Not very much going on with me ...

I am having a hard time getting motivated & starting my job hunt...

I have been great about my eating , sticking to 1200 calories per day.
After a week of that it looks like I have gained a pound. That discouraged me so much that I stopped and got a hotdog & fries today while running errands. ....hey ..if I am going to gain I might as well enjoy it...

It seems that I do better when I am not trying to diet... I am wondering about going back to the mini meal thing I was doing . It seemed to be working for me and I was losing. I decided to not try to continue for the last month my son was home before college because we were traveling and I was cooking his favorites..

I was eating about 200 calories of mostly fruit/veggies/low fat dairy/ and
healthy proteins.
Then I ate every 3 hours or so (whenever I got hungry)

I have been following everyones post but will have to chat with everyone later... Take care..

ontarget 09-08-2010 09:20 PM

Nancy, I vote for you to do what works best for you.:goodluck: We had hot dogs last night. I think that "into each life a few hot dogs must fall.":lol3:

I just finished reading my new cookbook and have a couple of recipes I'll try by the end of this weekend. I need to get a few more ingredients first. :chef:

Tejas 09-08-2010 11:50 PM

Hot dogs, hmmm, sounds good to me! Nancy, it sounds good to me to go back to what was working for you. I'm enjoying using fitday.com and learning the fat and protein content of foods. I had a small steak tonight and it had both the highest amount of fat and the highest amount of calories. Just can't win sometimes.

Have a great night everyone.

Rhonda
