Healthy yet VERY filling?

  • If you are willing to experiment, tempeh is very filling. It's a soy product, generally sold in the produce section of any big grocery store. You cut it into cubes, boil/simmer about 10 minutes and then can use it either in a stir-fry, to augment chili, or crumbled and fried with an onion and some mushrooms. Serve over brown rice or another whole grain.

It has sort of a strong flavor so I would say it's definitely an acquired taste. But I really like it and it's very versatile.
  • My husband hates it when I experiment--even if I think it tastes great... I guess I just have to resort to being sneaky......

I´ve already made some changes...I guess I´ll be making a few more and I just won´t tell him...

  • My husband is a meat and potatoes man. In the beginning, I made meat potatoes, veggies and a little salad. I only ate meat and salad and maybe the vegetable.
Now, there's only the two of us most nights. I make meat (which has mysteriously turned into chicken or fish most nights) a vegetable and salad. And I offer him a roll or bread stuff. If the meat is too high fat for me, I have a small piece and put cottage cheese on my salad.
No one in my family of five, has ever mentioned that I haven't made gravy for a regular dinner in about two years.
  • I suppose my biggest challenge is that my husband usually only wants his typical middle eastern fare--which means that meat and veggies aren´t seperate, rather together, kind of like a casserole........I personally don´t eat the rice or bread on the side anymore and I limit myself to one bowl/plate.......

I´m trying to find new ways of cooking chicken breast so that he´ll eat it, because his favorite part of the bird is the dark meat (go figure) and he usually won´t touch the filets if he has a choice.

I also use bouillon to soften veggies and onions instead of butter...and I add try to add as little fat as possible to our foods. I´ve cut down on the amout of meat I use in dishes...I try to make bulger instead of rice...

Any other ideas I could use???

Ironically, I´m slowly losing weight while my husband slowly gains...

  • "The Volumetrics Eating Plan : Techniques and Recipes for Feeling Full on Fewer Calories"

It is a really good book with tips on how to lower the fat and calories of foods. See if your local library has a copy.
