connection between calcium and honey

  • I found this brief article while reading Women's Health. It's pretty interesting.

"Honey may help calcium stick to your bones. When Purdue University researchers fed 800 mg of honey a day to rats, the rodents rates of calcium absorption rose by 34%, compared to mice who took their calcium sans sweet stuff. Honey's calcium-boosting potential might come from amino acids that make calcium more absorbable. The carbs in honey-sugars like glucose, fructose, and raffinose-enhanced the absorption. More studies are planned, this time using people."
