DH is blissfully snoring away in the warm bed with two cats. He's home for MLK day, though undoubtedly he'll work here at home. A day off is never really a day off in his world.
I got this in my email this morning, from a little Zone diet daily message that I subscribe too - boy, can I relate to what it describes!

What Is an Insulin Hangover?
Dr. Sears has long cautioned against this kind of "hangover" — which has nothing to do with drinking too much Chardonnay. Increasingly, it's mentioned in the media as a condition brought on by a meal heavy in starchy carbs. The symptoms: bloating, physical fatigue, lack of mental focus. It's caused by the rush of insulin triggered when a load of carbohydrates is consumed, unbalanced by the slowing effects of protein and fat.
While this "hangover" is unpleasant, Dr. Sears actually recommends indulging in a carb-heavy meal every month or so — a big bowl of pasta or platter of Mexican rice and beans, for example — to remind you just how powerful carbs are.
I've certainly experienced this kind of hangover - I know Ilene has too! Excessive carbs act like a sleeping pill to me and it's interesting about the insulin since I guess that explains why. What Is an Insulin Hangover?
