PCOS Support Thread for Winter (Dec - Feb)

  • Welcome to Winter months!

Check in and let us know how you are!

    Here is the old thread.

For the round up this month:
    • How are you?
    • How's the PCOS?
    • What are you working on now as goals?
    • How successful were you for past season on your goals?

  • How are you?

I am well. I like my volunteer teaching job and teacher college is going well. So far I'm making A's. But it is really busy.

    How's the PCOS?

Some things are better. My labs came back and my liver enzymes are no longer elevated. Woot!

The switch from compound pharmacy oral hormones to estradiol ticket patch and progesterone vaginal inserts brought it back down to normal. The oral pill going through my liver was aggravating it.

My asthma is under control and I got the best lung function test in 3 years. Woot!

Some things are not so great -- I feel off the wagon food logging as I was adjusting to my new volunteering schedule and college schedule. Add Thanksgiving and wonky meds and BAM. Big regain. Times like this I realize that the small steps I do to maintain? They may not seem like a lot but when I don't do them -- WHOOSH! I can gain from the air it seems.

What are you working on now as goals?

I'm trying to get that back in order before my next labs in 6 mos. (water, food log, walking, etc)

How successful were you for past season on your goals?

Ok in attitude, i guess. But sometimes it is hard.

I won't kid you guys. This PCOS perimenopause stuff for me is ****. I don't know what's going on, sometimes I feel crazy... the specialist sorted out the better meds to help my liver, but kicked me back to the OB/GYN who is PCOS clueless... It's like I can't find a doctor who is PCOS knowledgable to stay with. It's like if I am not having babies, nobody really cares to keep up with the PCOS management or something.

    What's up with that?!

  • Hello, I'm New Here
    Hello, I'm new here

I'm Pretty sure I have PCOS. I have been diagnosed with Ovarian Cysts, and I'm diabetic. I have irregular menstrual cycles which vary from heavy to medium/light. I will be going to my PCP to get hormone tests because aside from the above, I *feel* hormonal a lot. So, with that - Hi !!!

    How are you?

I'm ok. Gearing up for the Holidays. Very busy at work, but working on trying to slow down a bit for my own sanity and peace of mind LOL!

    How's the PCOS?

Not sure. Going to my PCP after the Holidays for hormone testing to see if it is indeed PCOS.

What are you working on now as goals?

I will be starting Weight Watchers with my wife come January 1st. I have lost nearly 100 pounds since beginning my weight loss journey, and have 49 pounds left to lose. I'm hoping I'll get there faster on WW, because my weight loss has been at a complete stall for months now. I also have some smaller goals, such as: read more! I love reading, but have adult A.D.D., so I find it hard. But there's just something about getting lost in a good book Also another goal of mine is to get back to meditating daily.

How successful were you for past season on your goals?

Pretty good actually, more or less anyway. Looking forward to the New Year though
  • Hellooooooo~

    How are you?
Exhausted! So much work and so little time I need a break!
    How's the PCOS?
Crappy! Periods are everywhere, skin is dry and inflamed...I think I might be actually getting a skin tag for the first time in my life AAAHHHHH
What are you working on now as goals?
Water! Drinking water and 30 days of eating right. Oh! and the gym!! getting back to that.
How successful were you for past season on your goals?
Not at all *le sigh* 2 months of "whatever" has killed me
  • JesikaBeth -- :welcome

I hope your doc appointment goes well and you get some answers. It can be a challenge to sort out all the things -- so I hope your journey through that is a smooth as possible!

    Cntrygrl07 --

Glad to have you back! Sorry to hear the PCOS is going rough for you right now. Hopefully small steps will help.

    My Check In:

Maintained over December with all he Christmas and New Year eating. So go me! Now I'm just doing basics -- cleaning fridge out, food log, water, walks. Nothing aggressive -- there's a problem my meds refilled so that's my main focus. Getting all that sorted out. I am hoping I can get my refills this week.

  • Thank you for the welcome. I was officially diagnosed with PCOS the day before yesterday. I'm kind of confused though. It doesn't seem like a whole lot can be done as far as an action plan?! I am not a candidate for birth control bc I smoke and it also makes me horribly nauseated. I'm not trying to conceive, so that's not an issue. I'm diabetic and already on Metformin. I'm frustrated because my periods are so wonky (which I can deal with) but I feel like I have PMS all of the time (which I am having a hard time dealing with.) I'm waiting on some bloodwork to come back, and then I see my doctor again in a month. Hmmm.... my doctor told me I had PCOS, but was kind of no-big-deal about it and gave me virtually no information. Any feedback or suggestions welcomed
  • Hi all!

I'm still around, even if I don't come here often. I started with no sugar on January 1st, and it's been going well. Last night, I almost succumbed, because I am PMSing, but I managed to stop myself (YAY!).

The next thing to go will be bread. I brought bread back because my extended family eats it all the time and in front of temptation, I've had a hard time dropping it. So, that will be next (although I don't love bread as much as other things!).

And yes, this is my process to get to the baby steps back to my paleo diet, which is really the healthiest diet I can be on for my PCOS.

I'm still taking Metformin and I am getting more bloodwork done next Thursday. We'll see how my A1C is doing.

Still exercising, but that doesn't make up for my diet or eating too much... so this year, I am going to focus on the food part. Even if I skip workouts or whatever, the focus is the food. Let's see how it goes.

P.S. Still in the same weight range -- I am at 185.4, but I have been up and down a couple of pounds. Nothing lost significantly.
  • JesikaBeth -- How did the doc go?

Rana --- keep at it with the sugar busting!

    My Check In:

So it is now February. I'm on another college class and working super hard. Also still working at the middle school.

Kept my food log and got some modest walking in and resulted in a modest loss of -2 lb. So I am glad.

Going to keep doing same. Micro baby steps!
