  • I while I'm enjoying IE/IF, I have to admit that I am getting bored with food right now. Anyone else had this happen? I think it is because it is getting hot. However, I think DH is starting to feel better because he talks about some things that he likes. We went out to eat at Golden Corral Friday for Father's day and he always likes the mushrooms. I asked him about it today and he was trying to tell him what he liked and didn't like in it. So I suggested that we start getting in the kitchen and learn how to cook the way he likes things. I do hope he will take me up on it.

We went to eat breakfast this morning and I ordered a special which had way too much food but we usually split it. My problem is that none of it was all that good to me. This is the way I was with food when growing up and when I first did IE yrs ago. I guess I will just roll with it for now.
  • Hi everyone! Ive been lurking for awhile, not on 3fatchicks Ive been on here for years! But on your IE thread Like most of you Ive been on just about every diet imaginable over the years. The last two years have been the hardest. I started having so many stomach/digestive issues that I was scared to eat because I would be throwing up ALL night so I went whole wheat, lots of grains etc but the sicker I became...finally went to a specialist and found out it was gluten making me sick so I havent touched a morsel in over 7 months now. I feel much better but it was an eye opener for my health and lifestyle. Since then I e been tryinv fo reach my goal weight but I just dont have it in me to crash diet or count carbs, calories, fat or track anything really...so Ive been drawn to IE...I just downloaded the book and also the overfed head pdf and plan on reading them tonight. I stopped counting calories two weeks ago, the first week I went a little nuts, binged a bit and gained 3 lbs. The 2nd week I lost those 3 lbs. I just really listened to my body in week 2...enjoyed my gelato to snickers etc and losg weignt, how freeing is that? So now Im ready to embrace it full time to finish losing these last 15 lbs. Ive already lost 45 lbs on a severe calorie restricted diet but like I said, Im so over all those crazy fad diets, I just want tobe healthy and fit. The only thing I track now is my exercise, which Im working the C25K program and doing HIIT on my other days. So anyway, that is me in a nutshell I look forward to getting to know you all and reaching our goals together And sorry for the typos, Im on my pho e and this tiny keyboard sucks lol
  • Welcome Spryng, so glad you finally got help to decide what was going on with your system. I joined MRC back in june 2012 and lost 39 lbs really quick, but after I went on maintenance after 4 months all the cravings came back and I was out of control, I gained about 8 lbs when I saw a post on IE and the overfed head and started the IE way and i'm losing lbs and feel so free! It's amazing how you can just listen to your body and eat what you want when you're hungry and stop when you're full! I don't think of food 24/7 anymore. I still weigh in once a week since I only started IE two wks ago but I've lost 4lbs this week. I'm hoping everyone keeps posting their progress. Also i'm currently reading Thin inside out How to Have your CAKE & your SKINNY jeans too and it's amazing. Congratulations and goodluck, keep posting!!

Thanks! I did MRC a couple of years ago so I know how tough that diet is. I lost weight but as soon as I stopped the diet it piled back on with a few new friends. I will definitely post often, I have a family reunion next month and im hoping to be down at least 5-8 lbs by then, we'll see.

yes carolr3639 it's a IE book, it's much better I think. I think there is a audible version too if you don't have kindle.
  • Hello everyone
I’m new here (sort of, I’ve been lurking for a while). I found the site while looking for online support for dieting, but then I found the IE thread and I think this may change my life.

I read Overfed Head (in a day), and am halfway through Tribole’s Intuitive Eating. And am working my way through the old IE threads. This is such a relief! I am finally understanding what the real problems are, and why I’ve never been able to overcome them.

I can remember as young as 8 years old thinking I was fat. And in fact my mother has told me that I was a really chubby baby and some doctor told her that she should put me on skim milk and restrict calories and I guess that began what has turned into a lifetime struggle with food and weight and body image.

I have some additional issues in that I have digestive intolerances something like celiac disease. I don’t seem to be allergic to gluten per se, but have trouble digesting grains all the way around. Some more than others – wheat & rice are particularly bad; corn & oats not so much. And I can’t tolerate soy very well either. So in my “diet mentality” I have developed an additional list of rules for good/bad foods. Even on IE, obviously I’ll still need to be aware of what I can safely eat, but seems easy by comparison to what I have been trying to track.

I don’t want to start rambling here, I’ll post more later. I really just wanted to introduce myself and say how grateful I am to have found this thread and concept.

Welcome! I'm new too, just joined the thread yesterday I can't eat gluten at all, makes me very very sick so I understand your food issues for sure. I think that is why this lifestyle appeals to me so much as well because we already have to be so careful on WHAT we eat (for our health/stomach issues) that its such a burden to then have to diet with tracking, counting, denying etc..its already like a diet just to make sure our food doesn't have ingrediants in it to make us feel bad. I'm only 50 some odd pages into the IE book (3rd edition) but I'm loving it so far. Just makes so much sense and I can't wait to get to the steps to start incorporating into my life.
  • Welcome Bookwoman, glad to have you here, it will be great following everyones progress and comments. Thanks
  • I finished the Overfed Head last night, such a great story! Now I'm getting back to the IE, I'm only 50+ pages into it so far. I loved the overfed head but he doesn't really talk about HOW he ate or even HOW he maintains now so I hope IE has more info on that.
So for you ladies who are living this way, what is a normal day of eating look like for you. I know this will vary greatly from person to person, but how do you eat each day that results in weightloss? How do you know when to push your plate away and not take one more bite? Also, do you exercise regularly or are you losing the IE way with no structured exercise? Just curious on that one Any personal experience you'd like to share from your own journey is appreciated, thanks!
  • I’ve only been trying IE for less than a week. So far I love it though I worry that this might be the same honeymoon feeling that I always would get when trying any diet. They all seemed wonderful at first. This concept makes so much more sense though, and the more I read in Tribole’s book, the more I realize just why nothing really worked in the past.

I’m still quite leery of trying all my “forbidden” foods. I went shopping yesterday and was picking up several items and thinking “OK, I can try to eat this again and NOT binge on it” but then I ended up putting everything back. The only thing I’ve brought home so far is peanut butter, and that’s been working out all right. I’ve had a couple meals/snacks of that on a banana or apple slices and have been able to recognize my point of satisfaction and put it away. Looks like this jar is going to last a lot longer than its predecessors!

I’m also struggling with the idea that I might not actually lose weight by following IE, but for now just being free of the obsessions gives me a lot of hope.
  • I do exercise but more for the health benefits. I eat cereal for breakfast and a good lunch. Last night I didn't eat supper but had a glass of orange juice and a teaspoon of peanut butter. Sometimes I eat supper with my dh but I'd rather not. He eats way different than I but he's a veterinarian and farmer.
  • I agree bookwoman! I've tried the "eat only when hungry" in the past and it worked for a second then I think it just gave me permission to eat what I wanted, whenever I wanted etc and of course the few lbs I lost from it I quickly gained back with a few friends tagging along.. but I didn't have the IE guide back then, I was just making it up as I went along so now having the book and others to help me hopefully this time I'll "get it" and not go crazy So seeing how others are implementing it successfully into their lives is definitely gonna help me do the same

Thanks so much for sharing! I'm exercising as well for health, I just want to tone and be fit, I'd love to run a 5K this year so that is my goal but it's not for weightloss at all, just for personal experience and fitness. How much weight have you lost on IE? and how long have you been on it?
