Tell me more about dehydrating foods!!

  • EDITED::::: NEVERMIND!!!

    The foods I like and my son likes are vacuum fried foods. Not dehydrated. THAT'S how they do it!! AND>>>> you can't do it at home (yet).

    I make EVERYTHING and when I say I make all our food I'm not exaggerating, but one thing I don't have is a food dehydrator. Maybe I don't need one as maybe my oven will work - I don't know.

    What I do know is that my teenage son LOVES those crisp veggies you can buy at Trader Joes, WHole Foods and health food markets and I'm wondering if maybe I can start to get my younger son to eat more veggies and less carb heavy snacks if he has these to snack on.

    But, my experience with dried foods is that they are leathery. I want CRISP!

    But can you get those crunchy green beans in a food dehydrator (and Okra, and all the other veggies)? They don't LOOK all shriveled up. They just look fossilized... See:

    Same with other veggies. THey just look like someone pulled out the water and filled those pockets with air/something to keep they still looking like a fresh green bean. They are crisp and light like a Cheetos.
