Menu improvement ideas!

  • So when I diet, I don't usually follow a certain diet. I wonder if there are some more improvements to make to my diet. I'm on strict budget and spend only about 30-40 dollars a week on food for me and one other person. I logged my food for a couple of days and it doesn't seem like I'm eating a lot but I haven't been trying to go hungry, just eating small meals and not having time to eat between classes keeps me limited on calories.

    I've lost 13 lbs since the beginning of January, but have been inconsistent with my diet (cheated several times) but overall, improved my eating habits. I only eat a little bit of meat, maybe maybe about 2 lbs per week. I do eat plenty of eggs, though.

    I'd love to hear some healthy recipes or tips on balancing this kind of eating .

    Comments: I'm working on maintaining my current level of caffeine which I reduced by A LOT. I will eventually cut out the diet mountain dew and may reduce to 1 cup per day when I can manage it. I'm not feeling that hungry. I'm not exercising much but a little, house cleaning and walking at college, plus maybe 10-15 minutes a day.
  • No one ?
    ....
    ;_;
  • Honest.... You dont eat enough period! And you have no healthy fats.
  • I agree, not enough food and not enough healthy fats. I mean, you have some, but you could add some more.
  • Whoa, where is lunch? You seem to be going without eating from 7am to 3pm? How are you not passing out? I would be passing out for sure. You need to at least grab a yogurt and a banana in there somewhere.

    Your salad is dismal, at least eat the whole avocado my dear, you'll need some calories from somewhere. Add some leafy greens, add some grilled chicken to it, add something! This is a starvation diet and that can only lead to your body trying desperately to hold on to fat storage and may eventually lead to bingeing.
  • One snack that is cheap and low carb is suger free jello and (to a slightly lesser degree) sugar free pudding. They are cheap, you can make them in the evening and they will be ready in the morning, and you can put berries in them to add a little nutritional content.

    Beyond that, try adding cheese sticks and slices of meat to munch on and up your fat content, I like to eat cheese and salami as a snack.

    Hardboiled eggs are also good, peal them, put them in a ziploc container, and you can eat them on the go (also something you can prepare in advance too)

    Apple slices or celery pieces with sugar free peanut butter is also a good option.

    Cucumber and tomato slices with olive oil, vinegar, feta (or mozzarella), salt and pepper (I also add onion and chicken to this sometimes)

    I also like mashed cauliflower (it can be made the same way you make mashed potatoes) which can be paired with a protein and supplies some fats, with the butter/whole milk used to make it.

    Eating low carb can be tricky since so many carb heavy foods are so cheap, but if it increases your health, it's worth it, right?

    Good luck!
