Atkins bars?

  • Hi! New here. I've been posting in the wrong subcategory lol
Anyway, I'm 9 days into induction and I received my free atkins kit yesterday. It came with three bars that all say they are safe for all phases. I'm still concerned because there are carbs. I know I know only net carbs count which the bars have 2-3. In any case I'd like to know if anyone had experience with bars causing stalls.
  • The bars have stalled me in the past! It seems like they affect the majority of people negatively. If you are in a pinch and really need something to eat, then they are probably better than some of the stuff you would get in a vending machine. But overall, don't eat them if you don't have to.

Very rarely have I seen someone who has been able to get away with eating them and still losing. I keep one in the house just in case of an emergency, like this Sunday when my daughter popped her elbow out and I had to run to emergency with her just before we were to eat lunch. I had other pre prepared food on hand though so I grabbed that instead, but it's nice to know they are there just in case.
  • I'm not on Atkins, but a low carb diet. I eat one to two of those bars every single day. It's about the only thing palatable to me in the mornings. I only eat the high protein, 3 net grams carbs bars and I've managed to go from 255 to 165 while doing that (and then I had a regain of 30 due to going off plan, but now I'm back at it). Honestly, I don't know what I would do without those bars!
  • This will help you understand Atkins bars

  • Yea it almost knocked me outta ketosis after 2 days of eating them and stalled my initial weight loss for a couple days.

Becareful! And if you must for a sweet treat, eat like a third or half the bar at most. And I'd still count at the very least half of those sugar alcohol carbs.
  • I've never tried them, I have never heard good things about them. They are not part of the original Atkins plan, and they are just another frankenfoods. I k ow they definitely screw up a lot of people when eaten during induction, so maybe avoid them until you are climbing the carb ladder.
  • Excellent link JersyGyrl!
  • Hmm well that's disappointing because they look yummy and I'm really hitting a wall when it comes to what to eat. Everything I consider eating, whether its eggs, grilled chicken, salad, makes me feel queezy. Oh well, gotta suck it up.
    Thanks for the link.

This is awesome! Thanks! I bake almost everything from scratch and have asked several times here for some low carb protein options for snacks and got nada for responses. Now I have something to go off of and will be cheaper to make than the atkins bars and I have control over what else in in them. Thank you!
  • That site is amazing! Thank you :-)
On a similar note, I found a recipe for mini cheesecakes that are induction safe. I made them earlier today and I think they're going to be my go to snack. Screw those atkins bars!
Here's the recipe for those that are interested:
1 1/2 packs of cream cheese
    1/2 cup heavy cream
    2 eggs
    1/4 sour cream
1 tsp vanilla extract (without sugar alcohol)
    12 packs of splenda

Makes 12 2.6 net carb servings.

    1. Make sure eggs and cream cheese are room temperature.
    2. Preheat oven to 325.
    3. Line muffin pans with 12 liners.
    4. Cream cream cheese and eggs together.
    5. Add sour cream and half and half and continue to blend well.
    6. Add vanilla.
    7. Add splenda.
    8. Using an ice cream scoop or measuring cup pour into lined muffin pan.
    9. Cook for 20-25 minutes. Test filling with toothpick by inserting into the center of cheesecake. If toothpick is clean, remove cheesecake from oven.
    10. Let cheesecakes completely cool and then store in refridgerator for 1-2 hours to get the best cheesecake consistency.
    yummmmmmm

Thanks! I do a lot of low carb cooking already, but new ideas are always welcome!
  • Hi Aarrixx,

I've never eaten an Atkins bar because, one, I don't like the ingredients, two, I'm always suspicious of the claims of net carbs; and three, our neighbor's dog wouldn't eat them so that tells me something.

    Cheers,

    Mark
  • haha that sounds pretty logical to me, mark. I'm the same way. If my dog wont eat it then I wont either. The nose knows.
