Green Smoothie Ideas?

  • I am having a green smoothie for breakfast most mornings but I need ideas about combinations which taste decent if not amazing I will include mine and tell you which ones are great, ok, or definitely not. If you could give calorie count that would also be awesome (because calories do count) If you are into green smoothies please share your knowledge. Thanks in advance. Peace

  • This is the recipe for the Dr. Oz green drink. I tried it and liked it. It has 274 calories for the whole thing so you could have half in the morning and half in the evening.

1/2 inch gingerroot (or 1 teaspoon)
1 bunch chopped parsley (approx 1/2 cup chopped)
    2 apples , cored
    1 lime, juice of
    1/2 lemon, juice of
4 ounces mineral water (or a handful of ice cubes)
    Optional ingredients

    banana
    Directions:

    1
Put all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.
    2
This recipe makes 28 to 30 ounces or about three to four servings. This will be very thick and you may need to add water - If you have a juicer this may work better.

The green drink has a strong taste and if you are used to drinking soda or sweet tea, the taste will take some getting used to. Dr. Oz suggests adding other items at first to sweeten the green drink to your taste.

  • My everyday green smoothie is:

    2 cups spinach 14
    1 frozen banana 100
1/2 cup frozen tropical fruit (35 cals)
    1 orange 62

    = 211
  • I made one today:

    1 orange
    1 banana
    1 6 inch cucumber
    4 stalks of celery
    2 cups of spinach
    1/2 bunch of parsley

I added some stevia because I find the parsley a bit bitter. It was good.
  • May I ask if the green smoothies taste more like veggies or fruit? I'm just curious.

If you are using lettuce, kale and/or spinach and adding fruit - they taste like FRUIT. They are very green but they taste like the fruit not the greens (I don't add extra veggies to mine so I'm not sure how that changes the taste)
  • With spinach I use bananas and strawberries usually

With romaine or kale I let my fruit imagination run wild LOL
    - some great additions have been:
dates, pears, coconut water, apples, frozen cherries
wheat germ too - good in many combos!
