Breaking Point?

  • Hey everyone! I'm a newbie here, but have read so many of the forums, and I tell you what, they are so inspiring! Today is my first day on induction, I am super pumped about it. I read the book over the weekend and enjoyed it.
I was just curious to know if anyone else experienced a 'breaking point' which made them get serious about weight loss. For instance,
Two weeks ago, I was watching tv with the hubby and we had two pizzas sitting in front of us for dinner. I ate a whole one by myself!!!! I felt so gross and couldn't believe I did that. Needless to say, I needed to change my eating habits....bad! Plus, I have PCOS and all the stuff that goes with it.
I want my life to be different and I'm excited about this new lifestyle....even though I had to eat a whole pizza to knock some sense in to me
  • Welcome and good luck !
  • Welcome! And yes dear, we ALL have had a breaking point of some sort to make us get our rears in gear
Best wishes on your weight loss journey and the 1st day on your way to being healthy

  • I've been on Atkins 7 and a half years now. My "breaking point" (or as I like to refer to it, my "ah-ha" moment) was watching my Dad inject himself with insulin for diabetes and thinking if I kept up my evil ways that could be me someday in the near future.
Atkins has literally saved my life!
    You CAN do this!!
    All the best to you!
  • Thanks everyone, so much! My first day was awesome. I really enjoy the support I see in the atkins forum and I ffeel that it will help play a major part in my weight loss journey
  • Welcome veroden--there's a lot of support and good ideas galore on this forum! My breaking point was my last doctor's visit, getting weighed and my doc saying that I've gained "significantly" since my last visit, and also filling out the family history form and realizing what dangers I'm putting myself into by having all this extra weight.

    Best wishes and big losses!
  • My breaking point was seeinga picture of myself on the beach. Not cool at all. Good luck!
  • For me, my breaking point was a combo of a few things. Seeing the scales pass 270lbs was one. Panting every time I climbed a flight of stairs was another. The most important one was looking at my boy and thinking, "do i want to drop dead before I'm 40?". I knew if i kept going as i was, i'd end up either dead or with diabetes. I want to be able to enjoy activities with my family right to the end, which will hopefully be WAAAAYYYY down the road.
  • Welcome!
Mine was realizing, after 8 years, that I still had the "baby weight"....and catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror while sitting on my bed. It was gross.
  • I had a couple. My first was when I went to the doctor's and they weighed me in. My highest ever -- 194! The fact I was just a few cheeseburgers away from 200 absolutely devestated me. I didn't officially go on "a diet" but I did change how I ate a little bit. I dropped 10 pounds before the New Years. But my breaking point came when I realized I was having trouble sleeping. I woke myself up every few hours because it took so much energy to roll over in bed. That one little thing triggered something in my mind.

I'm glad you are here and there will be a day when you'll be barely able to eat 2 slices of pizza!

    Good luck sweetie!
  • awww thanks!!

BUT....my feet don't hurt after work any more!! That's my favorite part.
